Manthan Shah Green Day never really finishes playing the song. They get to mid song and drag out Mike’s bass line and play another song haha. There’s nothing wrong with that, but that’s what usually what happens when Green Day plays a Paper Lanterns live haha.
God Mike is a absolute legend to play that bass line that long without stopping for a long period of time. This is a truly legendary performance for Green Day.
Lyrics: WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Now I rest my head from Such an endless dreary time A time of hopes and happiness That had you on my mind Those days are gone, and now it seems As if I'll get some rest But now and then I'll see you again And it puts my heart to the test So when are all my problems going to end? I'm understanding now that We are only friends To this day I'm asking why I still think about you As the days go on I wonder (Will this ever end?) I find it hard to keep control When you're with your boyfriend I do not mind if all I am is Just a friend to you But all I want to know right now Is if you think about me too So when are all my problems going to end? I'm understanding now that We are only friends To this day I'm asking why I still think about you WAAAAAAAAAAAA (Avante garde guitar solo followed by mud fight) SHAAAUUUHEEEEEEUUEEEEEEE THIS ISNT LOVE AND PEACE ITS FUCKING ANARCHY! I watched their whole Woodstock 94 set one day on here and you can definitely tell how tight their sound was and the energy they had. R.I.P. Mike's teeth
I think Tre had it worse the tempo gets relentless with those eighth notes. I will seriously use this video to train my endurance and see if I can keep it up as long as he can, my left arm is on fire by the end but Tre is just chilling
@@scott4170 Yeah and he played even faster in '96. Watch any concert from 95-96 and you'll see how impressive he was. It's a shame he toned it down later on.
@@scott4170 I 100% used to use live recordings of this hand to train my hands for endurance - I don't play any more, but Tre was a huge influence on me
4:24 I always loved that moment. Seemed planned, but it wasn't. Mike just stopped to clean his hands the exact same moment Billie decided to smash a mic to the beat of the snare.
That kid at 6:27 must look back at that moment now that he’s older. I think it’s funny how Billie says “future idiot” when they released American IDIOT 10 years later lol.
For a 22 year-old kid, he handled the mud melee remarkably well. It's probably the punk ethos combined with what years of touring they had, which were chaotic to begin with, from what I've read. A more "introspective" prog act could have gotten pious and tried scolding an audience of thousands, but they got down in it, and the result was that the album went Platinum shortly after.
What a seriously brilliant (and probably instinctive) move for Tre and Mike to just keep going while Billie did his thing rather than fumble with what to do next. It made the performance iconic. These guys were disciplined as hell at 22 years old.
This was like 10:00am on Sunday morning as I recall and it was wet and muddy as hell 😁... I have to revert to these videos to believe I was actually there.
The music n the background makes the mud fight eve more fun. Also, I loved the moment where Billie takes off his wedding band so he wouldn’t lose it while engaging in the fight
3:00 Billie Joe gives the security / stagehand his wedding band so he wouldn’t lose it slinging mud. He had just gotten married less than two months before Woodstock.
This performance needs to be protected at all costs. Easily one of Green Day's best performances ever in their long career as a band. RU-vid, dont ever get rid of this piece of history! Everyone needs to watch this entire set.
Damn crazy watching this now at 41,I was 13 and somewhere in that crowd with my father, was fun going back to school a few weeks later and getting to brag about it even tho most of the kids in my grade didn’t believe me
billie brings kid on stage and tells him to say something. after words kid gives him a hug and he half hugs. then the kid runs off stage. Billie: future idiot. wtf billie xD
It's part of the lyrics from You gotta fight for your right to party by Beastie Boys. The kid escaped from security to hug billie so billie catches him and bring to the stage to sing that because well, that's kind of what it's Beastie song about, lol. That's why he says at the end ironically "future idiot". You know, you don't live from anarchy, lmao
