It is July19th and it is still raining here in Houston, so proud of my first time harvest of yukon gold, which was probably half a box you have there, but I did it!!!!! I got beautiful tomatoes until mid June, and the rain just ruined them all, squash bug, still mad at them!!! I am beginning to believe the green house is going to be the only way I will ever get tomatoes. Hard to garden in a swamp! Envy your potato harvest, that is gardener's gold right there!!! Blessings to you and your family!!!
you are getting popular, seven ads in one video which is great. I am happy that you are getting rewarded for sharing valuable knowledge with us. Good to have you back.
No need to apologize for taking a hiatus Pete, everyone needs a break and after all you are retired. I hear you on the rain, my goodness enough is enough we have had 10" in 7 days here in South Montgomery county. I harvested about 35 pounds of the red potatoes last weekend from one bed was very pleased, I did not know that you could consume the leaves as well will have to try that as they made it to the compost pile. Glad to see the chicks are coming along, all the best David.
We planted some seed potatoes and right after that received 6" of rain. My potatoes never even broke ground. My only guess is that it was too much water and they rotted in the ground. I'm hoping to have better luck next year. Your potatoes look awesome.
I know what you mean Pete about the rain. Here in Fl it's been raining everyday the past 3-4 days and that's definitely not good on the peppers and tomatoes because I have them in big planters and they're drenched. So today I'm gonna have to cover everything because it's supposed to rain later this afternoon. That's the problem in Fl and trying to grow thing's. It can rain every afternoon in the summer. Your potatoes did great. You don't have to apologize for taking a break. Everyone goes on a vacation every so often.
Our last 2 summers here in Florida has been nothing but rain and BUGS. So I feel your pain. This year we are in a drought !! So you just never know. Seems like Greenhouses are becoming the best way to grow.
Hey Pete I just came across your video. I love your chickens they’re so big! Your potato’s are gorgeous. If I wasn’t so far away I would offer to come help. You take as much time as you need. May I suggest u put out a video once every two weeks to take off some pressure? All the best karen
Just an idea, whe harvesting root crop like potatoes, we use a hand trammel so we don’t miss any, plus you can amend the soil as you put back in the bed.
Glad your back, and yes sir all need a break from time to time... whew did you get your new chick? Harvest looks great, and wow we are with you on the rain... we cannot keep up. Blessings
Hello Pete. Chickens look great. Wow... great potato harvest. My daughter's chickens are doing well. I pass on any info from your channel to help her. I keep her hens supplied with Grub Terra. The chickens love it and it adds some good nutrients to their diet. Be well.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading country of course. I'm living in Cincinnati, OH right now, cant wait to move. As you may know cold seasons are too long here in Oh and KY as well and I'm almost 62, not too young to manage the cold that much.
Last year I grew Tomatoes under a White Shade Cloth. in June. When it got hot. They never wilted during the heat of the day. Where in years past. They would. Sprayed with Hydrogen peroxide, and Sulfur Fungicide to control diseases. It was the first year. We had tomatoes until the end of Sept.
Great video Pete, nice to see you back. I'm glad you took some well deserved time off. Potatoes look amazing, good to see the chicken update, and looks like you've been working out again. Thanks for always sharing your life, and awesome teachings. 🖒💛👍💚
This update was really helpful to me. I just moved to East TX from a dry area and did not know what to expect. My sweet potato slips are barely hanging in there, but I did plant them in a raised bed. I planted regular potatoes in large pots and they are sitting on pallets, so they should be ok once the rain slows down. They are looking a bit yellow, but now I understand why. I just got my chicken coop yesterday, and my chicks will arrive next week. I saw another old video of yours that explains why you do not free range your chickens, and I will take special care if I decide to create free-range spaces for them.
Welcome back Pete! That's an awesome crop of potatoes you got there. I just got back from visiting family in the Austen area and it was raining the whole time so I guess your funky weather has not ended yet! Nice to see that the greenhouse has been good to you after all of that work you put into it.
Hi Pete, nice to see you back! I always said you have been doing an amazing job with all these years like shooting/editing/managing those lands, these all are insane to manage with limited manpower. I salute you and thank you again I have learned lots of homestead stuff thanks to you. And these potatoes are amazing, what a good feeling to have these after all this effort and work. Congrats
How are you going to store your potatoes? I grew potatoes for the 1st time this year in old water troughs and the outcome was wonderful. I will give this another try. Yes we East Texans have had more than our fair share of rain this spring and so many failed in ground gardens. Found your channel after after the 2nd unprecedented East Texas Snow event. Off now to watch your High Tunnel video. Thanks!
If you feel like you've got too many potatoes, you can always send some to us fans 😉😅 (kidding). Watching you harvest the red ones, my mouth started watering a bit. I love roasted red potatoes. Idk if yours are the same variety as the red potatoes in the store, but I'm guessing all red varieties similar? I could be wrong. Glad to see your chickens are happy (they are so funny) and your potato yield is abundant. Hopefully next growing season will be better for corn.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading Oh no, I was just joking with you. They just looked so nice and plump... nice hearty potatoes. And I do love me some potatoes.
Great video thank you. We are also in Texas and experiencing some of the weather issues. I'm wondering with your greenhouse if you have any issues with the strong winds. I'm worried I will buy one and it will end up in the neighbors field! 😳😆
Awesome thanks, Believe it or not, the greenhouse held up to many wind storms. You run into those problems more with high tunnel greenhouses. Mines called a Quanset greenhouse and the wind travels over it better.
Thanks for your awesome videos Pete, we are super close to closing on our acreage in East Texas soon. Is there any way to direct message you? I would love to get some of your advice on picking the right property and what to expect when moving. We are moving from Suburbia and with pretty much zero homesteading experience. Your advice would be like solid gold for us getting started. Thanks again for all your content !! You are an inspiration 🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸🦅
You can find my email on my about page using a computer or laptop, for some reason using a tablet or cell phone it won't show up. ru-vid.com/show-UCyUG2htFsMtlhuvBHKYxPrQabout
Thanks Pete ... Hope you enjoyed your time off ... Chickens look great ... That is quite a harvest of potatoes ... how do you store them so they don’t rot?
Danny from deep south says he uses bread racks. He puts card board on it and space the potatoes apart and don't wash the potatoes. If you see wet spot underneath a potatoe throw it away and let that spot dry before replacing another potatoe.
Nitrogen is what gets plants growing but to get fruit growing you need a fertilizer that has more phosphate and potassium then nitrogen. I use an organic fertilizer with an NPK of 3-5-5 is good.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading sir i have apple trees of different varities which bear almost 20 packs yeild every season ...so is this NPK best for these too...
what all of that tell us...? That they are intelligent animals...many are and to the surprise of many they show emotions like happiness, sadness, anger, joy, friendship and so on...i guess we can speak and walk in two legs but we are pretty ignorant and arrogant in regards to mother nature...
