200 years? They found a ~17 feet long Greenland shark which age was estimated on at least 400 years, but it could be up to 520 years! Their metabolism works so slowely that they can get this old... it's super crazy to imagine that today there are Greenland sharks out there, 400-500 years old. They were born when in Europe were still medieval times (1521 - 1621).

Came to this episode out of direct curiosity. First saw the greenland shark in Jeremy Wade's River Monsters, season 5 in the Loch Ness episode and an addition special on this shark in some later season. Jeremy of course caught one with a fishing rod and, being a biologist and nature lover, he also released the shark like he does any fish. He used almost 300 feet of line if i recall correctly. Awesome creature (the Greenland shark I mean) and amazing to find them so close to shore. Nice of you to dedicate an episode to this remarkable animal!

Yes. That water is murky and difficult to see somewhat. So initially that water looks less fun compared to clear blue water. How based on what you were saying about the green land sharks and how many years they live to be. It must be the coldness that reserves the the speed of self usage. Also the green chains ⛓ of rich nutrient waters that play a major role of prolonging life secrets there? Thanks for sharing the footage with you entering the water even if there wasn’t any sightings of anything? Thank you Jonathan Bird!

It’s really hard to think that a shark was born 500 years ago by Newfoundland, Vikings have been on Newfoundland, but the first European sighting of Newfoundland and Canada was John Cabot and his men, and to think of it there might have been a Greenland shark right under their ship curious about the alien visitors

... Greenland sharks (from baby to adult) are actually blind. they have a small parasite that latches onto their retna feeding off their eyes when they're babies, so technically he couldn't see you, that's why he was banging the rocks to attract them by sound. but I'm guessing you already know that now. 🙂 lol sorry I had to point that out, me being Canadian it just slightly triggers me XD I mean no harm with this comment
@BlueWorldTV

Actually not all Greenland sharks have the parasite. And while the parasite obscures the vision it doesn't make them totally blind.
