While this channel has been primarily focused on electric vehicles and the public charging infrastructure, I realized that I needed to spend more time focusing on other fossil fuel free alternatives that can increase self-reliance and reduce pollution at a ground level.
I've been using this Greenworks 80 V chainsaw for a while now, and it has served me well over the years. Let me know what you think about this type of video, whether it's helpful, and whether you'd like me to discuss and review more electric power tools and yard equipment in the future.

Been switching all my yard tools to electric and so far I'm happy. I have Greenworks 80v mower, chainsaw, electric shovel, leaf blower, and recently the two stage snowblower. We're not really getting much snow this year so have not had a chance to test it on a real storm but so far it looks like it will work fine. They even have zero turn mowers now, though on the pricey side for a homeowner. My goal is to eventually live off grid so idea is to try to be as self sufficient as I can.

Awesome! I've been cutting a lot of firewood recently, so I'm about to publish an update on long-term battery life. I'm not sold on the Greenworks riding mowers. I have been looking at them, but I'm thinking I might go with the Ryobi instead. I don't need zero turn, but they are all pricey right now (the Ryobi I was looking at went up $1,000 in price out of nowhere).

I use a Ryobi which works well for me. When I first got it I went outside to do some trim work. When I came back in, my wife asked me when I was going to do the trim work. I told her I had already done it and she replied "really, I didn't hear anything" 🤣. What I really like about it is that I don't have to pull and pull to get it started like I did on my old gas saw.

I own several Greenwork's equipments. Turns out mine are also the 80v and I have both 4.0 and 2.0 amp batteries. Regardless of brand, it is a great move. Especially when you make do with a MUCH quieter lawnmower. For the most part, I commend you for wearing PPE, except that I couldn't tell if you were wearing earplugs.

Thanks. I do wear PPE, but in the case of electric tools, I don't typically wear hearing protection outdoors. One of the benefits of electric tools is that they very rarely exceed 100 dBA, and I'm generally operating them for such a short intervals that I'm still well within NIOSH and OSHA guidance.

@@newscoulomb3705 Hi Eric, I would still recommend ear protection such as ear muffs like airplane controllers use. The reason is even exposing yourself to extended 90dBA sounds can damage your hearing slightly which you may not notice until later in life. I noticed that I started to loose my high frequency hearing starting at 36 years old even though I used an electric lawn mower that was much quieter than a gas mower for 4 years and only in the summer. The hair like nerves that detect high frequency sounds in the cochlea are the most delicate and are the first die, so it's best to be safe then sorry later. Just a suggestion to help make your hearing last.

@@Jeff-wb3hh Yes, it's still generally a good idea, I know. Thanks for the reminder. We must be sure to set a good example in these videos. :-)

Nice! I have a mix of gas and electric yard stuff. Bout to go pick up a Ryobi electric lawn mower tomorrow. Needs repair.

Nice. I've heard good things about Ryobi, but I don't have any personal experience. I'm basically all DeWalt for power tools (retired my old Black and Decker 18 V) and Greenworks for yard tools at this point.

I have a Ryobi electric riding mower and for the rest of my lawn equipment I have "Ego" powered stuff, push mower, weed eater, leaf blower, chainsaw, and hedge trimmer. The main advantage? They ALWAYS start! You don't have to mess around with any of it, it just works right every time you need to use it.

I totally agree. I switched all my yard equipment to the Snapper/Powerworks 60V line a few years ago. Mower, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, leaf blowers, and chain saw. I found that Powerworks uses the same lithium batteries as the Snapper. I have five batteries ranging from 2Ah to 5Ah. By the way, all of these chainsaws seem to leak oil. You can see my yard (forest) here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PZibFqmAYi0.html

I have a worx 40v chainsaw, I like it verry much, The saw achieves the 40v by using two 20v packs, packd that I can also use on my drill/circsaw/multitool and grinders :-) I wish that 2stroke leaf blowers are banned.

Not much around the yard you can't do with electric. 25 yrs ago I was using corded electric chain saw and Bosch electric jackhammer. This looks much more convenient. My father had an electric Sears lawnmower in .. 1968!

Yup. Frankly, I just can't understand why people are still using gasoline yard tools.

I have a 12" battery powered Greenworks, and I've cut down 16"+ trees. I have electric leaf blower, and weed wacker too. Looking to get the Ryobi mower.

I have all electric yard/power tools, it realy is soo nice not to ever have to deal with gas cans/oil changes/spark plugs or any of that for them. I actually have a little 20v Black & Decker chainsaw and Polesaw, actually other than my mower and weed eater that are Greenworks I have just about all Black & Decker 20v to save on different batteries. Don't have as much yard work as you seem to but for around my little suburban house it really is convenient to just pop on a battery and go to town! My weed eater is a Gen1 at least 8 years old, still works fine! I hadn't thought of using a non-petroleum chain oil for my chainsaw/polesaw, what are you using? Regular vegetable oil or something else?

I am slowly changing over to electric lawn equipment. But, I don’t want to go crazy since I will most likely switch to a yard service in the next 3-4 years.

I have a battery operated lawn mower, snow blower, and weed trimmer. If I never have to buy gas again I will be thrilled. We had a giant storm last year that knocked out power for 2 weeks. We luckily had access to a gas generator, but we still have the remnants from spilling gas and oil. Never again. If you have any solar generator thoughts I'd love to hear them!

Checkout the products of the company victron, they have a solar converter/charger system that allows you to store solar power and generate regular line ac, even (for my country regular 3fase)

Hi Eric, I've been trying to share an article about global warming with you but RU-vid refuses to let it go through. My comment appears with the link or even just the title, but then when I refreash the page it's gone. Do you think its because I shared it on another channel's video that is why it will not allow it here?
@newscoulomb3705
@newscoulomb3705 2 года назад
Odd, I'm not sure. RU-vid definitely filters comments, and most of the time, it's comments with links.

@@newscoulomb3705 Wow, they took it away again even though all I wrote was the website name without the dots, just spaces, and the title of the article not even in quotes and no slashes. Google I guess is the new A.I. preventing us from communicating important information on global warming. I'll try a different tact. This article I feel is very important and has many top climate scientists referenced. OK. let me leave out the dots and spaces and just give you the website name with spaces as if it was a title The Green Times and the title of the article is Collapse of civilisation likely according to climate scientists. Then do a search for it. Let's see if that gets through the Google police.

Great technique, I would recommend you back cut your branches first before your main cut to prevent splitting, pinching, and tearing. I personally use Makita 18" and 10" battery powered saws as I don't have to use gas, and I don't use the saws enough to warrant anything but electric.

It's really amazing how many things we use everyday produce CO2 and other greenhouse gases. I used an electric lawnmower way back in 1986 through 1990 when we owned a two flat with a grass lawn. Back then they only had corded electric lawnmowers, but it really was not that inconvenient. It was a Black & Decker. I insisted we get an electric mower back then because I hated the smell and the tremendous noise of gasoline powered mowers, not because I wanted to be green, you see back then we didn't even know about global warming.
