What I was thinking. If he only glanced at the back of his new record album think what he'd be doing with a smartphone, checking his messages while driving. I'd have grounded him for a month. Good to see parents who double down when a kid does something wrong. Not like the wimpy parents you see on TV today.
.....I LOVE it when Mike throws down that GAUNTLET! (1:14) ...ha-HAA! ....and, he was RIGHT; freeway accidents make up for the MOST dangerous accidents, even in the 70's....Mike is a Dad of SIX, for a reason, Greggie.....you wanna try for THREE!?? (1:56) .....
Greg did sneak out and borrowed a friend's car. Carol found out from that friend's mother and told Mike. Mike went ballistic and extended Greg's punishment, thus making him miss the concert and setting up the "Exact Words" narrative for the rest of the episode.🤣
@@charlespeakjr2168thank you. I'd forgotten the rest of the episode. Unusual for Mike and Carol to punish their kids let alone extend a punishment. Good for them.
Let it be noted that Mike told Greg he couldn't drive "the car"--meaning the family car--for a week. Later in the episode Greg was right when he argued that point.
I think he was right, too. The show takes for granted that it was somehow sneaky of Greg to argue that point, but I've always agreed with him on this - and I'm usually one to back adults over kids. Mike and Carol have full authority to ground him from diving their vehicles, but he's still a licensed driver and has every right to drive other vehicles if he can access them. This is like a store banning a customer, then getting mad that he was still able to do business at another establishment.
@@K.RobertRichardson You know up until now I've thought that Greg was getting away with something, but I think maybe you're right. It doesn't really matter; Greg's parents accepted his defense and allowed him to hoist himself with his own petard.
1:05 OMG.. imagine if every time a kid was texting and driving we took the car away for a week? I saw a guy reading the newspaper yesterday while driving I'm not kidding the whole paper was laid out on the steering wheel. Few weeks ago we saw a guy shaving while driving and you know there's always the putting on makeup but looking down for a text is just unacceptable I think two things need to happen every car needs to come with the little straw that you blow in to make sure you're not passed the legal limit of alcohol, and when you're in a car whoever's the owner of the car their phone stop the texting ability after 3 mph
In my head canon, I had a theory that Greg was checking out the back of a Grateful Dead cover and he was planning on seeing them at the arena with his chick ;)
This wasn't the only time Greg has been banned from driving. In another episode, Mike and Carol punish Greg by taking away his driving privileges after he plays a fake UFO prank on Peter and Bobby, and the prank gets way out of hand.
The driving competition between Greg & Marcia was in the 5th season. Marcia didn't have a driver's license during the 4th season which was when this "Greg gets Grounded" episode was filmed.
Wow, I am shocked at the number of people being down on Bobby for telling the truth. It was Greg who messed up and nearly got them both killed. Where was his loyalty? He lied and tried to cover it up and then blamed his baby brother for him getting into trouble. He got himself into trouble. Taking responsibility for your own actions is what seems rare these days or those.
ABSOLUTELY this is how I was raised. TRADITIONAL old fashioned two parent parenting. Remember in Season 1 or 2 where Greg gets a D and he turns around to walk out of Mike's office and Mike Brady smacks him hard on the rear end, even AFTER Greg says he will buckle down and study harder? THAT is HOW I was raised, too. Great parenting in this show.
@@loveforeignaccents I think at the time they only had one car, and obviously Mike would be the one who would need it more since he's the one working; I do think they did give her a ride after she explained in detail how she had to get where she had to go by bus. Either way after all that explaining, she could been there already by bus in the first place.
Dude! I'm a longstanding (and therefore longsuffering) Cleveland Browns Fan. However that gear that "Peter" wore looked more nearly like The Honolulu Hawaiians of Seventies WFL fame!😂😉🍫🍊🏈📺B.W.
Yeah, she actually did a few other things besides Carol Brady and a Disney cartoon show voice. Musical theater, commercials, TV movies, cookbooks, and more.
Bobby was quite annoying when he asked Greg, What do you mean nothing happened?when Carol and Mike asked Greg What Happened and Greg said nothing really.,after Bobby told Mike and Carol that they just missed having an accident. Greg should have told Bobby that he no longer wants to take him to the Frog Jumping Contest right then and there and maybe he wouldn't have missed the Rock Concert.
That was a small fortune for a child at that time. In another episode, Alice tips a delivery boy just under $2 and he says it's the biggest tip he's ever received!
in 1970 2 bucks was like 10 bucks back them everything was less then a dollar you could feed two or more for 2 bucks at a fast food place while 10 bucks now you can barley feed yourself
Greggy was driving dangerously. If he and Bobby had gotten killed due to his carelessness, what would have happened to the theme song? And what would they have done with the extra Brady squares? NOT GOOD!
I believe Bobby was helping Greg in the long run because if Bobby would have kept the almost crashed incident a secret, he would have continued to drive carelessly thus caused an accident. So hopefully Mike was teaching Greg a lesson by grounding him, and Greg will know not to ever do it again!
Was Greg grounded for a week or for two? Mike said a week, then said it was more fair than two....then asked do you want to make it three, which makes it sound for sure that he had upped it to two because of Greg's sass? But then we see that Greg tells Peter it was only a week.
I accidently ratted my older brother when we were kids. He had stitches in his knee, and we were doing hurdles. I told my folks all about the hurdles later that day, and when they realized all the stitches had ripped out, it was heck to pay.
Ok this was kinda BS by the parents. 1) they were not hurt, 2) the car was fine, 3) this really put Bobby into a bad spot with Greg. They should have just explained to Greg the importance of paying attention, and then warned him that if he damaged the car in the future by his own fault for doing this, he would be responsible for the expense to repair - that is if he was even alive!
When this show was on in the early 70s. I was only about two years old but I loved every minute of it and syndication in 1980 when I was about 14 loved every single episode obviously doesn’t hold up. The styles are just horrible and I’ll tell you I’m Peter. I’m about 15. The last thing I wanna do is hang on my brother with a frog. I’ll be on the phone with a chick and technology rotary phones getting didn’t even have 72 my goodness gracious
Greg should have been paying attention to his driving on the freeway, when he almost got into an accident, not only did he put himself in danger but he put Bobby's life in danger, the punishment was just right.
Greg sure got upset when Mike grounded him over driving.Greg should've moved out and go stay at a friend's house instead of taking that from his dad.If Greg was 17 he could've legally left home and not have to take the bullshit from Mike.
@@alondralabute2310Entitled people don't know what punishment is.Never got punished.Or are feebes that never learned the "hard" way like they should have. Now kids threaten to call child services because they're mostly 👶. 🤷♂️🤭
@@alondralabute2310 My wife was 17 in 1974 and left home cause she didn't want to deal with her stepdad's bullshit. So she left her whole home State and moved to mine and I had a friend that was a teen also in the early 70s and moved out at 16 cause of similar issues so no not everybody respected their parents back then either. My dad was 17 in 1963 and didn't listen to my grandpa either he moved out and left with friends and that's how he met my mother.
@@michaelvaladez3012 Ok, I should've said most kids respected their parents. But when parents aren't what they should be it's hard to respect them. My parents said and did things that lessened our respect for them, my mother especially. But that doesn't mean I didn't obey as much as I could and accept punishments. Sometimes the punishments were unfair. The stories I could tell. My husband's mother left home at 16 but I have never been able to get the story behind that since he himself never knew. She didn't talk about it. Parents ought to be as fair as they can be and only punish when it's necessary, sometimes a good talking to can be enough. A parent can lose a kid's respect when they are not fair or when they play favorites (my mother). But in this episode I felt Mike was right to ground Greg from using the car for driving dangerously.
