I love the pick. That his Florida QB was so bad but he was able to put together great games against SEC comp is huge for us. He can play well despite whether Purdy is having a bad game or we are playing in the rain. He can help solve some of Purdy's bad weather playing problems.
@@MagicMoke I was talking about Purdy. But I hope he is practicing with wet pigskin in the offseason. I just don't think we have enough sample size to say for sure.
Kyle noticed that the Niners didn't have a Cooper Kupp or Puka Nacua type receiver, so he had to draft one. Plus Kyle didn't want the Rams, Seahawks or Cowboys getting their hands on him. CeeDee Lamb + Ricky Pearsall would be almost impossible to cover. Now the rest of the NFC West will have to deal with Aiyuk + Pearsall.
@@Madman33-nv8htmaybe a reach for the Niners, because they could’ve got a plug in play CB but Pearsall is almost just as good as Xavier worthy. He was a great pick for any other team
@@Madman33-nv8htwhat’s your obsession with the niners as a chief’s fan? Seriously, I haven’t seen a single chief’s fan obsessed with the niner’s but you. Watch the tape on pearsall if you know how to bandwagon
This NFL draft reminded me of some fantasy drafts where we would go on "runs" and Pearsall started a 4-pick "run" of WRs starting at the end of the first to the start of the second round! That tells me that the three teams that picked after him, wanted him badly! He's worth this first-round pick!
I was surprised at first by this first-round pick because wide receiver didn't seem to be a position of need for the Niners. However, hearing more of the NFL football experts speak about this pick, I'm impressed by the choice of Ricky Pearsall.
💯 agree. Pearsall combine numbers identical to OBJ but Pearsall is much stronger with 17 bench reps, compared to 7 reps for OBJ. Pearsall is agile, quick and amazing hands with acrobat catches like a prime OBJ.
The next receiver picked was by Carolina and he had 4.3 speed, but I checked out his highlights and he was always covered. I think Pearsall can separate and still be a deep threat. Wide outs are a matter of opinion and the QBs make a difference.
Everyone thinks Mel kiper is the end all be all of draft evaluation. I don't really take to much merit into anyone's opinion right after. I truly believe after 2 years you should go back and grade how well a team drafted. No I know certain circumstances don't allow that to happen with coaching changes and things of that nature. But don't get caught up in opinions of draft evaluators right after the draft because if it doesn't line up with their eval then of course they are going to mock a team's selection
Huh what? Many national media pundits and content creators use his draft grades. But none of them matter because it's a huge guessing game until they actually step on the field, so who cares what any person grades what your team did. In 2 years when you have actual film and data on the player in the nfl then when it's graded tells you if your team is actually doing it right.
At first, I was like you Brad, was disappointed that we didn't take Jean CB. After reviewing his tapes like you, I understood why he was picked. Especially, he's the go-to guy if you need a 1st down, and he can get open on any coverage.
@@G.Martinez916 In theory, you can, but the reality is you are much more likely to get a quality lineman in the first round. Secondly, the 49ers didn't use ANY of their picks to draft a tackle. That's baffling. Sure, Puni may be able to play tackle, but it's not his natural position.
And why do I trust Cosell the most? He’s a tape guy. He forms his own conclusions. He doesn’t parrot what Kiper or Yates or anyone says. His opinion is based off his playing years and his deep dives into the film. Top notch.
Well then why did you finish a video of them breaking down why pearsall fits? You didn’t want to hear any explanations, yet you watched it and commented on the video
I guess we will have to see, because i dont think Puni is going to have an immediate impact on the o line, Pearsall better be open the half a second the o line gives Purdy to throw because if not Purdy will have to use the scramble drill quite often, this is hyperbole of course because i am assuming top level defenses
I think that Cosell has the correct pronunciation of Pearsall's name. He says "Pier-Saw". However you pronounce his name, Pearsall is going to shut up his detractors pretty quickly. Those saying that he was "a reach", are going to look like clueless fools. I hope that is the case.
Feels like the plan is to let Aiyuk walk next year and focus on the draft after we win the SB next season. I like the pick too. I would have preferred an edge rusher or right tackle but there was no clear upgrade by the time it was our pick at 31.
The ONLY way he isn't a reach is if he has a better career than those other players who went about 32-51 or so who were still on the board and were legitimate targets/needs for this ball club.
Agree. We always pick some fun players. The problem is Our O-Line and we NEED another legit CB. As far as Pearsall being our #1 pick, I realize that we would not have had a shot if we had waited for him BUT spending a first rounder on a red-shirt player is just stupid. 1st rounders should be expected difference makers as starters, not depth pieces or replacements for the future UNLESS you are clearly the best team already and have several rings under your belt already. Giving Philly Cooper DeJean was a mistake. Giving KC a tackle was a mistake. We wouldn't have Pearsall, but we could have had two huge upgrade starters and still had good WR's to pick.
@@a1kidI mean , he’s not a redshirt player. He’s a day 1 slot. Suamatia is a major project and would need to be sat down for a year. He has a lot to work on watching his tape and he is only 20. Nobody even knows what position cooper dejean will be
Too much emphasis on 40 times without pads and not enough on route running and brains. Don’t believe it? Go look up the thirty fastest 40 times ever and see what 80% of them did in the NFL
He needs a lot of pt or its a wasted pick. Purdy doesnt have much time to throw, because the O-line isnt good enough, so I doubt ricky catches 20 balls this year. Mason and Mitchel are great, but they never play. We need to trade both Deebo and Aiyuk, hopefully for o-line or good picks, so that Pearsall and Cowing are starters, not just bench warmers. I would even trade Mccafferty if we could get fautanu or Jackson Powers Johnson.
You just don't draft for the short term you also draft for the long-term. We will probably have to trade Deebo and let Juan go in FA next offseason, assuming we sign Aiyuk. That's 2 out of Brock's 3 top WRs. We needed to draft their replacements this year so they can be ready to step into the role next year since WRs don't normally come in figure it out of college as rookies.
I wouldn't trade aiyuk for an unproven commodity. If BA has top 10 targets he will be a monster. Deebo can go after this season or before, aiyuk is the better wide receiver.
The criticism has never been about the player, but WHERE/WHEN he was taken. There was a lot of great talent on the board at 31, and a lot of boards had him going at 51 or later. Maybe it was the right call, and the boards were technically "wrong" because he was taken at 31, but I bet in 3+ years that we will see player taken after 31 and before 63 who will be far better than him - especially in the secondary.
He definitely would have helped them win last years Superbowl, because tge Niner's biggest issue is their receiver's separating man coverage, and getting open. A quick slot receiver who can run those 5-7 yard slants, and is able to let Brock get the ball out of his hands quickly, hitting Pearsall in stride, and with anticipation, he is the perfect weapon for Brock Purdy, who plays to his strengths, rather than someone who lines up on the outside, and is a deep threat, outside the numbers, like a Legette or Mitchell, who wouldn't be the best fit for Brock, since he's not deep downfield passer.
No matter whether he is great, good or bad it’s still a reach. When you reach in round 1 you end up reaching the rest of the way. Steve Smith had him ranked 14th WR. I respect Cosellhe knows his stuff, but still a reach.
Lol they drafted o line tho. The hell are you folks talking about? Everyone acting like the 2nd and 3rd rd picks didn't happen. Just cause they didn't take your guy doesn't mean the picks were bad lol
@ninerempire3398 so it was either purdy didn't have enough guys open or enough time to throw the ball. I saw a weak line. If kyle thinks that's going to improve than fine. If kyle knows we can't keep both deebo and BA,than fine. Pick a receiver. All I could see from my TV was Chris Jones reeking havic and purdy under duress.
@@user-iy7zt9rr8w I saw our receivers getting clamped up and locked down . Oline had gave up some pressures but chris jones destroys everybody. He’s the second best d tackle in the game . Do you think a rookie lineman stands a chance against chris jones?
SHANAHAN IS SUCK!! HE DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE HIS WEAPONS RIGHT. EVERBODY, I DON'T KNOW YOU BUT... WE NEED AN OLDER, EXPERIENCE, KNOW HOW TO WIN CRITICAL GAMES AND SUPERBOWLS NEW COACH. WHY GIVE SHANAHAN MORE CHANCES? AND BETTER YET, WHY NOT HAVE VOTE.
