All I ever saw him doug was smith and hammer stuff. Far from hardcore training. Then on smith he wasn’t near as strong as I was expecting. On top of that he got breathing heavy from doing curls. He did take a lot of drugs and eat a lot of food so maybe that’s hardcore
Greg's reputation was his undoing. Instead of refining the details in his physique, he kept pushing the size game which led to his body and organs to eventually deteriorate.
For a while in i was fortunate to train in the same gym as Mr. Kovacs. It was 1991 in St. Catharines Ontario and Greg was training every day at Fulton Fitness. Whenever he was there while i was i mostly forgot about training and just became jaw dropped by his size and strength. I witnessed Greg grab the 200 lbs dumbells and do flat press with them ( thats a total of 400 lbs) gezzzzzz!!!! . Use to stare at his massive calves with my training partner and say " what the hell are those " .
Wow I was there as a kid and I remember that too. I think I remember you too ❤ did you always use to wear a purple dress, You had the beefier calves ever
Greg kovacs was a genius, creator of the protein shake station and in minute 4:21 we can observe how he could accommodate the dumbells using 3 forms: 1.-bicep curl, 2.- chest press free weight and 3.-flyes. Conclusion, he was a bodybuilding genius.
Ahhhh my old gym the good ol' days when Dilett and Kovacs, just to mention a couple of the pros that graced that gym with their presence. I knew Kovacs, not very well, we talked a bit here and there...a very nice and humble guy. RIP.
My husband was a very good friend of Gregs,we knew back in the hey dey and he was the strongest bodybuilder of the day, him and hubby have a few good stories, but he was quiet polite guy to me he stood well over 6ft and the biggest we seen him was ovee 300 pounds and pretty shredded, missed rip Greg
Definetly. He could bench press 700lb x 2, if i'm not mistaken. Imagine if he took powerlifting seriously he could have probably lifted 800+lb on bench press.
it's more that, the organs themselves were extended and enlarged not so much from TEST but from GH and other insulin products these monsters use. always the problems come from the GH.. they use so much.. just look at the guts. thats not fat.. solid swollen organs
For a 6'4 guy they have to get very big to compete with the shorter bodybuilders. If he was lighter he just wouldn't have the same look. Tall bodybuilders are cursed in a way.
Read an interview with Nasser el Sonbaty and he was talking about Greg. He said that when Greg was at his biggest his girlfriend had to wipe his ass. He could not reach by himself. And when she left him he used a towel that he pulled back and forth between his legs.
It was only at one occation where his wife was not with Greg, which she always was. He was staying in hotel room and a journalist was coming over to do an interview, during his visit, he asked to use the bathroom which Kovacs insisted on that he did not recommend. Nevertheless, the journalist entered and found the room full of towels covered in shit. Sad.
GhostNeck you don't believe this do you? Could you imagine that it's not possible to not be able to wipe your ass unless you have no arms. I'd say he was just a lazy fuck
dazzaburger before he died he weight 490-520 lbs on muscle his abs where monsterous arms where like 35-40 inch legs where like 1 m chest 98 inch calves like hell
Blood Pressure is a mofo!! If you are over 260 and muscular you should probably be giving blood every few months as well as potentially taking a BP medicine. It's the silent killer.
You gotta realize this dude in the off season would always get up to 420 lbs, and during competition was at 340 about. So that's a lot of weight and stress for the heart to handle. Let's not forget the massive steroids, growth hormones, and insulin.
@@camsfitness1745 Yeah the steroids alone probably would have killed him and then you add that weight he was all the time. I'm not surprised he died young. It's unfortunate though. Had he shrunk down considerably and stopped the steroids maybe he would have been okay.
@billj4525 Absolutely. Steroids definitely were a huge part in his death along with being so big. Being 300 plus lbs of muscle puts so much stress on your heart. Yeah, had he stopped and cut his weight down a couple years earlier he might still be alive but would've had to be on trt the rest of his life. That's why people should really think about thing before take Steroids. If you're not competing in any sport, especially a sport like a physique contest or bodybuilding, then there's no reason to start taking them. Not to mention if you go down that line that's something most are gonna have to be on for the rest of their lives.
Hello mates, I know Greg Kovacs chest was around 72 inch at 187 kg bodyweight, but how many inches was his waist at 187kg? It would be gold worth to know his waist circumference, i have been a big fan of Greg since 2002!
Probably really big especially if we're talking at that body weight, but he was still lean for that weight regardless. 72 inch waist. Ronnie Coleman was 56. How is 72 possible? That just doesn't seem right to me. How tall was he?
ronnie has better feats than kovac. Ronnie does 550 pound barbell rows. I never seen anyone do that. Ronnie could squat 800 pounds. Ronnie leg pressed around 2500 pounds. Ronnie did 400 pound dumbell shoulder presses (200 lb each dumbell). I didnt like ronnies physique but that man could move around some serious weight
Sorry but that's some exaggeration. Ronnie managed to row 495(video) for 10 reps with full momentum. His shoulder press was 315 for 12 reps and with db, 160*2. Also that leg press was 2300.
Ronnie is much stronger than kovacs. I read where kovacs did all this weight for this high number of reps. Than I saw this video and 5 plates in smith incline was not really easy for him. He got like 6 but assited. I don’t him even finishing a Ronnie Colemen workout. Greg was tall and big so he towered over people. I’ve seen Ronnie and Greg in person at their biggest and Ronnie is much more impressive and much bigger muscles.
The only reason Greg kovacs isn't seen as impressive as Ronnie is because people dispute whether his lifts acts happened, I think he just failed to mention that they were on a Smith machine. If the 700 bench was actually raw and not on a Smith, it would blow Ronnie's feats out the water
I believe in this video Greg wasn't a 400 lbs. yet. I think is was either after 1996 NOC or the Ironman in 1998, and that would put him about 350 lbs. at the time.
hugh jarms HUGE! :) I love seeing these guys in person because it really makes me motivated even though I don't body build myself because I am a lazy shit who keeps saying I will start a program soon lol. You know that whole "I'll start my diet and exercise on Monday" excuse haha. Anyways this guy was massive walking a bit funny along the sidewalk but I totally respected him. Then I found out he was friends with people I knew and they even said he was definitely a force to be reckon with.
I think I know why these guys have heart attacks....their muscles become stronger than their heart and their heart gives out before they realize the danger.
Not a surprise given the amount of juice he was on. Also being 400 pounds most of his life didn't help. Sad he died so young though. He should have started downsizing in his early 40's, and maybe he would have been okay.
In an natural condition yes, its true, the body its not made to process that much protein, but steroids forces the liver to process over its natural limit. And besides that, the main idea of professional bodybuilding is excess in every way, including food(1000-15000 calories a day).
@3:08 when you put six plates on for the camera but then the camera man accidentally zooms out too far revealing you are actually only pressing five 🤣🤣🤣 This whole video is just a fake ass muscle-tech add.
Looking at the video,as big as he was,his body was lacking harmony,if he was larger than Yates,he doesn t look larger than Yates or Coleman,he lacks the finess of the goats,I don t know if he is larger than Paul Dilleti.
