Greg "The Hammer" Valentine discusses how much money he makes on his WWF wrestling figures (LJN, Hasbro, Mattel). Streaming now 📺 TitleMatchNetwork.com
No one tells it like it is better than the Hammer! Valentine has had many different wrestling figures produced by WWF (now known as WWE) over the years.
Back in July 1984, Vince McMahon (owner of WWF) and LJN signed a licensing agreement for the production.
Greg Valentine would be featured heavily in Series 2 which hit shelves in 1985. He was also released as part of the Dream Team tag set with Brutus the Barber Beefcake. The LJN wrestling figures sold huge in the 1980s.
In 1991, Valentine was supposed to be part of the Hasbro Series 2 collection with Honky Tonk Man. However, Rhythm and Blues broke up so the figure was scrapped. Hammer would go back to the blond hair by Series 3.
Find out how much Valentine and other WWF wrestlers were making off their merchandise. Hear how often superstars get paid royalties from their image and likeness.
Also, get Greg's opinion on his new WWE figure recently released by Mattel.

Greg the Hammer, while certainly not warm and fuzzy, is a straight shooter. The way he recounts stories sounds realistic and not an attempt to make himself look better, or make himself out to be a victim. I appreciate that he lets you know how Vince set up a lot of the wrestlers with a retirement income stream. In his interviews, Don Muraco also comes across as humble and recounts his stories without making himself out to be a martyr or hero. By contrast, Honky Tonk Man certainly has an axe to grind and rips people left and right during interviews.

I’m so glad to hear that these guys were looked after. I usually only hear the horror stories. The original Greg the Hammer Valentine wrestling figure was the first one I ever wanted, and got. ( After I laid on the floor at K-Mart and cried till I got it! uuugghh) Fast forwarding 30 years, and well before RU-vid’s resurgence of the best generation of wrestlers ever, I walk into The Nashua House of Pizza in Nashua NH and there he was sitting with some other wrestlers from that era at a birthday party. I was in total shock and disbelief but I managed to give him a thumbs up and he nodded back at me. I often wish that I went over and said a simple thank you for making my childhood a good one but I’m more proud that I let him eat in peace with his friends. I highly doubt he’ll ever read this but just incase ….. Thank You Mr, Valentine. I appreciate all the bumps, bruises, and blood you gave to entertain us. And I hope life is and continues to be well for you ! ☮️ & ❤️

I could be wrong but pretty sure he had to, toys are a bit wonky when it comes to likeness rights you can have the license for the property to make toys but you still need likeness rights if based of a real person, hince why alot of movie toys in the 80s and 90s looked nothing like the actors. Not to mention paying royalties has always been Vince's way of paying peanuts anyway heard many stories of wrestlers getting paid next to nothing for a matches and how most of their money came from merch sales. Scott Hall recently revealed that he is making 6 figures just from WWE royalties due to nWo merchandise. These legend contracts generally aren’t very big but these legends are still making good money from occasional appearances, royalties from video games, action figures, t-shirts, etc. And the WWE is making very good money from nostalgia. The smarks hates the WWE for investing into the past but that is only because the past sells and it helps legends like Greg Valentine during retirement.

The Valentine LJN figure was one of my favs to actually play with. It was posed perfectly to actually play with. Savage, Rude.....even Ventura, not so much.

He wrestled one night in the late 80s in my town. He was all alone in the hotel bar the night before, looking grumpy as usual. I was there with friends about 4 drinks in. He & I stared at each other & I thought "He looks like he wants to kick our asses." Seeing these interviews, I should have walked over & bought him a drink. Seems like a really nice guy, the opposite of his TV persona.

I had a somewhat similar experience with him. When I was in 5th grade, a group of us went to the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh and he was on the card. We went to the hotel that the wrestlers stayed in and we saw The Hammer there and he CLEARLY didn't want to be bothered and was really grumpy. It was a big turn off. Glad to see he's doing well.

Greg Valentine has always been one of my favorites from that era... Very down to earth and always a class act. He's always honest and is one of the best story tellers ever! I could listen to him for days... 😂😂

It so refreshing to hear a wrestling legend speak and sound so grateful for getting what they get (royalties wise). The hammer is so down to earth and also speaks so much sense.!

I love those LJN figures. The smaller figures that came later were fun, but those big figures are in a class by themselves. Those figures were part of my overall introduction to what was then The World Wrestling Federation.

Nice to hear the truth and some appreciation for once. You think the industry is the pits hearing it from all the wrestlers who lost everything because of their bad choices. Good for Greg for shining some light on this.

IDGAF what anyone says, GTH-Valentine has some damn good hair. Maybe that doesn't mean much coming from a bald guy typing a RU-vid comment, but it looks pretty good to me.

An underappreciated legend! Whether as a single or a part of several tag teams, this man was always one of the best. I'd take any team he was best known for (i.e., the dream team, rhythm and blues, or in the beginning with Flair) against the so called legendary teams of the hardys, dudleys, E&C hands down.

If someone like Valentine is still making good money from royalties, I can only imagine what Hogan would still be getting these days. Along with Randy Savage's estate and some of the other top talents of the 80s when those merchandising opportunities were just starting to pop up.

that is so good to hear about them getting royalty checks, vince really took care of his boys, unlike cast members of old tv shows that didn’t get jack shit. The best thing i’ve ever heard that Vince does it any wrestler or ex wrestler that needs rehab the Wwe pays for. Very proud of Vince for that
