Gregg Popovich and a reporter get into heated exchange during his postgame interview after Team USA's 91-83 loss to Australia in Mondays exhibition game. The reporter (Joe Vardon from The Atheltic) asked Damian Lillard a question about previous US team's being able to blow out other teams out and Gregg Popovich fired back.

Pop probably knew what he was saying was wrong about the blowouts, but he’s responding like any coach would respond. The best thing he can do at this moment is keep his team’s morale up and if he places these high expectations on his team he’s just putting more pressure/stress on them.

Literally almost all the players are different, and no where near the caliber of players from past times. Get used to it too. Coach Pop has benefited from three Hall of Famer‘s which put him on the map. If people think coaches win championships, then wouldn’t they win all the time? No, they don’t because coaches don’t shoot the basketball do they! The players win championships not coaches. Parker Dunkin and Ginobil have all the rings because of their Hall of Fame play,..it’s not any coach!! The quality of players at this level is so close, across the board that coaching really doesn’t play a significant role.. it’s about the best players on the court period!

LMAO why is Pop straight up lying. Less than 10 years ago we beat Nigeria by like 70+ points. In 2016 we won the Olympic Finals by 30 points. In 2016 we beat Australia by 10 points, in 2012 we beat them by 33 points. In 2008 we beat them by 31 points. So Pop...about that being untrue...

These guys have been playing constantly since the bubble and decided to invest their off time to play for the Olympic team.
