Not only the greatest coach in basketball history, but the greatest coach in US history in any sport. Appreciate every minute while we have it cause this guy is the bar for the best ever coach now
@@blablablaa14He’s not better than Phil Jackson, Pat Riley and Red Auerbach. Never won back to back titles and 3peated like they did. And don’t give me the same excuse that the other 3 had HOF talent. Pop had Duncan, Admiral, Manu, Tony and Kawhi. Even had great role players like Bruce Bowen, Stephen Jackson, Kevin Willis and Steve Smith also. He’s easily one the top 5 best coaches in NBA History but you Spurs fanboys love to overrate him.
Man listen, Pop is great. Definitely top 3 or 5 all time, but he never 3 peated or won back to back championships, which is pretty hard to do. Phil has 3 three peats and a back to back under his belt.
I rang up his groceries in Sacramento, when the Spurs were playing the Sacramento Kings. He spent $7,000 in wine. He's an extremely nice man. I'm so happy for him.
Pop controlled this room man. So blessed to have had him as our coach. And so glad he is here to reap the benefits of his hard work and achievements 🙏🏽
I'm 73 years old I've seen a lot of coaches come and go and I'm from New England and a Boston sports fan, but this is my all-time favorite coach and person. I can't top him with anybody else. It's because of the person that he is.
Born in ‘96 into Spurs fandom I was spoiled with greatness throughout my childhood…so many memories with friends and family attending/watching games…thank you Coach Pop🙏🐐
Coach Pop is the greatest coach that stayed true to hi franchise and built a legacy from Scratch on and off the court fr 💯! And i grew up a Detroit Pistons fan!
Instead of being a 3rd tier team in a 3rd tier city in the big state of Texas, Pop and the Spurs showed everyone how to do it best, how to play as a team, how to stay together, and how to dominate the league for a good decade.
…a gentleman’s sweep to be exact…each of the spurs victories came by a margin of 15+ points…the heat’s lone victory in that series happened in game 2 by a final score of 98-96…Manu’s dunk over ray Allen payback for game 6 the previous year🔥
We won the year prior; but it didn't fit the program of having lebron lose again...the series magically changed from a 2-2-1-1-1, to a 2-3-2 format....... pop has 6 rings, can't deny that.
By far the best coach ever. Victor is lucky to be able to develop at Spurs. One of the few people outside of my personal life that I would take a picture with.
Such an amazing man…..🙏🏼✊🏼🫡 Lots of memories. Those spurs were the greatest teams ever in the history of basketball. Efficient, reliable, consistent, and humble. All those traits trickle down from the top. Amazing organization.🙏🏼🤙🏼
Great human being, great speech, amazing coach, amazing career. Of all the things he said what moved me the most was seeing the faces, beautiful innocent faces of his grandchildren. They made my day and may God bless you all.
AS A BLACK AMERICAN AND SPEAKING FOR MYSELF, COACH POP IS ONE OF THE GREATEST MEN I'VE EVER KNOWN. I SALUTE HIM AND I ASK GOD TO KEEP HIS HAND ON HIM AT ALL TIMES.
@@Kings0424 opinions are subjective but why i say Phil is cuz he did it with two different teams and dealt with 4-5 of the strongest personalities in basketball history and still won !! Mike , Kobe , Shaq , Rodman
Pop is an amazing man. He is a great leader, who demands respect, accountability, discipline, loyalty, and has a great heart. This is the type of man that we need as a country. Pop would be a great President.
No, he's a surly clown who got lucky with a bunch of great players showing up in San Antonio. Tanked to get Tim Duncan, installed himself as coach, and then the GM brought in the other guys.
@@eddievangundy4510 Bunch of great players? Who? Better read timelines. There's a huge difference between proven talent and developing players into their utmost potential. As turned out, some became All-Stars and champions, to the dismay of other teams bypassing them. Tanked to get Tim Duncan? Review 1997 draft lottery. The Celtics had 2 (or 3?) lottery balls. San Antonio had one, and it happened it was good enough. Don't be an ignorant hater with a Dunning-Kruger effect.
Lmao the POTENT silence in the room when he said Seattle should have a team is only topped by him acknowledging "yeah I'm probably gonna get in trouble for that." God I love this guy
@eddievangundy4510 because I'm sure he was really hurt and I've never heard of a player refusing to play because they wanted to play somewhere else, right? Do you think the Spurs paid him millions to sit there. It's a business also. Where do you work that you can be sick all year and get paid and never get fires. Use your brain.
The thought of Pop being a part of those guys' live and the lives of their kids and families even after retirement is so lovely, relationships are really worth the work
It’s great that his best players stuck around and understood that pops yelling was just because he wanted them better. Glad none of his best players didn’t jump ship
Steve Kerr is a Phil Jackson/ Greg Pop hybrid. Its Sad that fans get caught up in the moment a choose to tear Down one coach in order to celebrate the other.
@@Peakfreud It just happens Steve Kerr listened to Pop more than Phil. Maybe because Pop is more relatable and cares about relationships. When Steve announced his interest to coach, PhilJax invited him to coach NY. Pop told him to coach where Steve's family will be in a better situation. Kerr felt it is in SF. Warrior bandwagons tend to dismiss Pop's influence to GS' ongoing glory years. Phil settled in former player Derek Fisher. Few years later, Fish was fired, and so was Phil.
@@OrionOodama You can learn from one persons Failures, just as easily as you can learn from another's successes. Happens in parental relationships all the time. The combined experiences of both learning situations is what provides the overview & big picture. Because you're always gonna fail & succeed in any endeavor, unless you're perfect.
@@Peakfreud So what’s the moral lesson? Phil Jackson is most effective if he’s the coach, NOT as VP of basketball operations. That’s why the 1999 Knicks’ Playoff run was a fool’s gold. Jackson was reportedly waiting in the wings, but since the Knicks went to the Finals and Jackson can’t wait any longer, they lost a man who could revive the Knicks’ real glory years and give Patrick well-deserved ring/s.
Even though he beat my team most of the time in the playoffs he is my favorite NBA coach of all time. Dude is a legend and I’m happy he got in the HOF. Seeing him going in with Tony Parker was beautiful to see. I’ll take him over Phill Jackson any day.
Pop the GOAT. Many people will say Phil but lets take into consideration on the journey both went through; Phil was already a winner before coaching (became champion with the Knicks) so its easy to maintain the same success going into coaching, while Pop did the hard way - the true definition of rebuilding a team and turned into dynasty. No wonder Warriors dynasty exists up until this day its because of the Spurs blueprint. Ball movement > Triangle offense all day
Imo greatest coach ever! Phil Jackson saw the most success, esp having elite talent like MJ, Kobe, and Shaq, but for Pop to do that with one team for decades is crazy. 🐐🐐
Someone please help me out. Lifelong NBA fan, have coached for years myself so respect what a great achievement this is. I've listened to every single man woman and child rave how great this guy is. I just don't see it. Not a hater at all but I want to understand the pedestal he is put on. Can someone detail what it is that makes him different? I've had the chance to watch him coach without 3 hall of fame players in his lineup since Kawhi left, and I can't say I'm very impressed. Thats the real test, when you don' t have an all star team on the floor each game. Listened to the whole speech for some indication but other than people absolutely adoring him I can't see it. Is he just a terrific human being that got lucky? He certainly talks like he got breaks at every single turn in his speech. Anyone?
