Love to hear Gregg sing with Steve Perry but Santana not so much. This guy pretend he left Journey because he was tired touring but seems he never stopped. This proves to me that he just didn't want to work with Steve Perry anymore because he was jealous of Steve taking the limelight from him.

Regarding music in general, this is probably the most powerful 2 minutes you will ever hear from any musician. The message is universal and should reach everyone in the world because it affects everyone in the world and Gregg conveys this perfectly. Now it is time for all of us to heed his message and do something about it!

Sure a true heartfelt statement. We didn't and still don't have much money but our 2 boys wanted to learn to play the drums and guitar so we went out and bought them drums and a guitar on my husbands salary alone. We ate soup for a month but it was well worth it. They both taught themselves how to play both drums and the guitar, there are really good. They only play for enjoyment now but I still encourage them to keep playing. Slowly but surly we are losing our future kids to not feeling anything at all in this digital age. We need to get instruments back in the schools and in the hands of kids again. I can't hold a note or sing at all but I still do because its the most unbelievable thing in the world when a song can move you to tears or make you laugh or says a strong political statement or just takes you away from everyday life. Thank you to Greg Rolie and Journey they made some really wonderful songs.

As a guitar teacher in London I agree 100% with Gregg's comments. As far as the UK is concerned, Margaret Thatcher destroyed music education in schools. Her rat race mentality which bred the 'he who dies with the most toys wins' approach to life has had catastrophic repercussions. Kids have the strongest thumb muscles of any generation ever, because of their unhealthy preoccupation with phones / ipads etc. Thank you for posting this vid (as it happens, on my birthday last year which makes me smile). Musicians everywhere have a duty to continue to encourage kids to play music. Real music! No more hip hop / trance / bubblegum shite.

I saw what happened in 1980, all of our bands, Queen, the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Rush, every band just could not make a great album. What happened? I don't know, but it was the same time of Reagan and Thatcher.
@rainbowriderjt7833
@rainbowriderjt7833 5 лет назад
@@calamagrostis88 It had nothing to do with Reagan or Thatcher. SMH! It's been because of the constant "dumbing down" of music! The Idea that "anyone" can and should be "famous"! Since 1985 when Rap/Hip Hop and watered down R&B became more popular, then later "remixing" and "sound bites" took hold it's become a massive cesspool!! Sad that the top 3 "mainstream" genres of music being played today by 20 somethings are Rap/ Techno, watered down R&B, and Rage Metal which I call "Vomit Metal"! But, there is hope! I'm starting to see a surge of younger people (20 somethings) reject their generation of garbage of so called "music" and embracing music with real structure, real vocals and using real instruments!

But, all of that aside, I have missed your music, and it help's that your still so very beautiful & you've aged like a fine wine baby. I honestly think you look better now than you did back then. Gregg your playing in Journey and Santana inspired me to try different things at an important time in my life - and yes what has been done to music education is a sad commentary on our society. I started in with piano lessons over 50 years ago and I'm still playing. I substitute on pipe organ at my church more often than I play anywhere else nowadays... but every time I fire up my rig and light into my Rhodes, or slide behind the B-3 for a jam session with friends, I think about seeing you perform with Journey in 1980. Thanks man

Absolutely right! Music is food to your soul, to your brain, it uses parts of your brain that otherwise would remain dormant. Recently, after about 1.5 years (due to the pandemic) I went back to see a friend in his mid 70's that in the past would hired me once a week to run his home studio. He's had some health problems and hasn't had much access to his studio; after helping him put it back together and doing a few sessions, I can really tell the difference in his attitude and attention span; he's definitely more alert and looks forward to our sessions - I'm realizing the value of Music as at therapy tool - remarkable.

It's not society's job to teach arts, it is the parents' job. If the home is failing, deal with that because once that fails there will be no schooling other than the failure we see now.
@SpiritofharmonyOrg
@SpiritofharmonyOrg 5 лет назад
Its society's job to place a VALUE on the arts so that people will understand its importance, because it leads to deeper thought, learning how to work with other people. The society's that changed the world, through out history, all embraced art and learning. Our society once embraced art and learning, we too changed the world. We hear endless about how our society is in the trouble it is in because "God" was taken out of the schools, but god was NEVER in our schools. It most certainly its society's job to teach god, not insinuating you believe it is. MUSIC and ART WERE!! We have slowly lost music and art education... look at the horrible state our nation and society is in. Look at some of the other society's that reject art, what they are about, The Taliban, ISIS, AQ, etc. Its pretty clear why our society needs to place a big value on music and art, as well as teach it. Considering music is the only language understood everywhere, in all society's, by animals and even plants... it can be argued it is the universal language that makes us whole!
@gdpcpa
@gdpcpa 5 лет назад
Wild speculation as to whether God was in the schools or not is certainly fun to toss about, but baseless in this discussion. As well, correlations do not show causation....I can imagine correlations all day and draw conclusions but likely none will be of any real use. However, what is known is the affect of a mother's singing to her infant, or a child growing up and being exposed to music at the earliest of ages, and these affects are quite astounding on the child. Talent is an individual gift and nurtured from infancy has shown very positive results. As you might guess, I do not believe "it takes a village", or "a school" to get the best of self expression in art or music from a child....it takes a nurturing parent. Don't get me wrong though, teaching music in school is not a bad thing, just not as primal and influential in realizing the best of inspiration and expression as the parent and family would be.....ttfn.
@GermanProudly
@GermanProudly 5 лет назад
Do you feel it is society's job to teach children at all? If so, why would music not be part of a liberal arts education? After all, music and poetry are two studies that teach a human being what it means to be human. Science and Math can't do that. If we remove art from our children's education, we will only be training one half of their brains. That represents a total lack of balance. Many parents are not any more equipped to teach their children art than they are able to teach them science or math. Many can't afford to offer their children lessons in art or music outside of school. This means that an essential part of learning to be a complete human being is being left out of our schools. Is it any wonder that so many young kids seem soulless and perpetually lost. They can't feel any meaning in life from mere numbers and scientific facts and formulas.
