It's crazy how often I rewatch this. It's the best anxiety-reducing music I've found. It always puts me in a better head space. Gregory Porter is a master.
from my very own hometown of bakersfield ca. we're so proud of you my brother. please honor us with a local performance.we want to embrace your brilliance...
The goodness in all people all around the world is put into the lyrics and music of Gregory Porter, all from the heart. His fame is not only because of his talent; fans love his work because his work touches what everyone wants life to be on this Earth, but just can't achieve. So listening to him is a sweet sadness and joy bringing tears of joy and sadness to each and every one of us who connect with the desire, the thought, the feeling, the need to make a connection with life as it was meant to be. Peace.
I just discovered his live performances, and I am amazed, if I get the chance to see him live, I will certainly go. You made a beautiful comment by the way.
In my life I have had to work with the Costers, Platers, Etta James and the Drifters. It was a great ride but I must confess, when i listen to this consort, "I can't feel the ground under my feet" He lifts me up.
Not to be too nitpicky, but that's actually a flugelhorn, which is generally considered to be a little bit more like a trumpet than a french horn. Some might say that it is halfway "between" a trumpet and french horn. It is a really nice bit of collective improv for sure!
I was a co-worker this weekend at cactusfestival in Bruges where he performed. I had the privilege to shake his handat the backstage and tell him how much I appreciated his concert. A very kind and warm person with an amazing talent. One of the best concerts I've ever seen !!
Gregory Porter is a throw-back to the jazz era when we had great singers. A friend gave me his first album and I fell in love with Gregory singing. I look forward to more great music from him.
The Metropole Orkest's home base is in Hilversum, The Netherlands, but that does not take away from them being the world's best jazz and pop orchestra (orchestra meaning symphonic sections plus a jazz big band)
A mother who's life lifted up me....that was my mother. This song has so much emotion for me, and I can tell by the way Gregory performed this song, that it was emotional for him also. Great talent!!!
Gregory Porter is amazing! The orchestra is so superb! They make great team! I watch this concert 20 times, and I'll watch it a 1000 times again. I love good music. Not factory music but that music that remind you of that old great wine. Go head Gregory Porter! Go head!
Just discovered this concert and have to say I loved every minute. The enthusiasm and appreciation of the audience, along with this amazing orchestra and of course the sublime Gregory Porter. An absolute treat to watch and listen to. Thankyou to all the musicians and to Mr Porter. Hope I will one day get to see you live 💛✨💛✨💛✨
thanks for sharing this performance. I think I have all of his cds but I can tell that this concert was awesome. Listen to the joy in his voice. Thanks again.
This is just an amazing orchestra playing the most wonderful music. All the greats of jazz have performed with the Metropole from Stan Getz to Mark Murphy, Phil Woods to Clare Fischer, Bud Shank to Clarke Terry, Peter King to Bill Evans, Lee Konitz to Bob Brookmeyer and dozens more. They all loved the experience many returned time and time again. The BBC shed its Concert Orchestra on cost grounds and denied us the joy of sounds like this. Thank you to Dutch Radio at Hilversum for carrying on supporting this orchestra and the arrangers like Rob Pronk and Dolf Van der Linden, under the most difficult of circumstances. We need this music for our souls.
Did have the honor to hear him with the Metropole Orchestra in Munich, Tollwood Festival just yesterday. I guess this was the very best concert i heard for years. Greg is a singer of extraordinary quality with a wonderful stage presence. Also the Orchestra is playing on such a high level that i wished they would play all night through. This is real music, these are real musicians. God thanks for this evening, i´ll never forget it. Thank you Greg for your voice and for your songs!
+KlaRa474 I would pay with my "eye teeth" to have been at the concert rehearsal. I just saw Gregory Porter at Carnegie Hall/nyc 2 weeks ago at a Bill Wither's tribute. He was terrific... duetted with Valerie Simpson on one song...and took over the microphone on the final song. Whew!
I have seen Gregory two times, once at the Hollywood Bowl and his voice is a gift from God. His songs are so uplifting and he is the future of jazz and hopefully young people will be inspired by him. Thanks Gregory!!
I've heard these arrangements with other orchestras he's played with and this is by far the most soulful, and best orchestra ever. It's hard to made Gregory Porter look bad, but this orchestra manages to elevate his performance. I'm already a Gregory Porter Fan and now a Metropole Orchestra fan. now.
God, in His infinite wisdom sends angels to earth to remind us to turn our eyes and ears to higher Things. Gregory Porter is one of those special gifts sent to us to touch our hearts and bring joyful tears to our eyes. I pray That God Bless him at every turn.
soooooo refreshing to hear this kind of gift....and a clean artist, shooting straight from the heart. just got turned on to him by my son. can't get enough. could not sleep so at 3 o'clock am I'm up listening to gregory.
I was Blessed to catch Mr. Porter on the radio, it was just near the end of his song I never heard before but his voice was unforgettable that I refuse to change the station in hope it would play again & I could hear who he was & the name of the song. Simply BEAUTIFUL, I am hoping to go to his performance soon.
By the time he got to the song "1960 What" I had chills running down my spine. Wow this entire concert was flawless. No doubt Gregory Porter is one of the Jazz greats and by the just the perfection of this performance he sure enough earned it.
+Carl Lowery Yes! When you hear so many of Porter's songs, you think they are classics he's covered - then you realize most of his songs are NEW CLASSICS he's written himself and sung - all the more amazing! Peerless talent.
+Dozer LA Exactly. All his songs aren't standards but instead are originals written by HIM! This guy is the new gold standard in music, as far as I'm concerned.
Gregory Porter is an amazing lyrical genius. I saw him once in concert he is simply so original in his style & musical talent. The acoustics 🎵🎶🎺🎹 are so divinely beautiful & soothing to anyone's ears...I rest well when I hear that Gregory Porter Come to the Alley....
So very perfect! Perhaps my favorite performance on the tube. Won’t say how many times I have it on repeat! The Metropole Orchestra is simply the best there is. The talent oozing from every member is completely breathtaking. Who else better to compliment and bring out the talents of the incomparable Gregory Porter! Simply a match made in heaven!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥
HO. LY. SWEET JE. SUS. How have I missed this artist in my life?!?!?! Mr. Porter you are a revelation. And thank you Metropole Orchestra for swinging with him. What a glorious experience it must have been.
Gorgeous concert with an awesome Gregory Porter and btw a fantastic Metropole Orkest … in my opinion one of the best orchestras in the world…. if not the best !
After you listen to music like this.....don’t you just want to go out in the world...and throw rose petals around and love everybody? Tell the truth!!!!!!
I absolutely agree with your assessment. This music has made me feel love, hope and peace… This is as close to perfection as a music set can get! Gregory Porter is Simply, Simply Sublime!
I've been a big fan of Gregory Porter ever since his debut "Water" several years back, and so happy this concert was uploaded: it's simply fantastic, amazing, astonishing - his vocals, the tone, the phrasing, the warmth, the color, the sheer joy of performance - WOW!
Magic. I have watched this video innumerable times. Gregory is a joy to behold... and... the band and arrangements are sublime. This is one of those perfect nights when everything "clicks" and everyone is performing at their best. Fantastic.
Mike P my eyes teared up to such beauty and I’m a percussionist myself.. 1960 what? I’ve heard this cut added to a deep house track ... WICKED! But I never knew who it was until today.. just now.
I love you Gregory Porter. My soul stirs when I listen to you sing. It's kind of like sliced bread, the best. I listen to this particular concert over and over because my daily bread is eaten right along side with this heavenly annointed man. This orchestra has one of the best brass sections that can keep company with the late James Brown's band. The trombone solos were off the charts.😁😁 Thanks for sharing your gifts with us.
This is just Beautiful!!!.....there is no other word to describe what’s happening here...except maybe magical!! In my 35 years as a session musician..just occasionally..JUST...a performance happens ..and when you get backstage ..the whole group will look a each other...ad shake their heads...and say YUP!!! We straightened this one out!! Thats what seemed to have happened here....so in Gregory Porter’s life...he will look back at this performance and shake his head and say.....YYYYEEEEAAAAHHH!
what God listens to when there is 49 minutes of free time. I am 78 and used to spend my nights at the Vanguard, Gate and Bliue Note. Even booked the MJQ for a huge event once. This man is the perfect blend of what you want in a Jazz performer and gotta feeling in a human being too. fabulous tone and phrasing and warmth and love he emanantes. Sting chose him to sing song he wrote for the Polar Contest in 2017--- watch it Its Probably Me is damn good but first song at this event is one of 10 best songs i have ever heard. And huge kudos to the orchestra--- 49 minutes of magic.
Jan. 9th 2021, 12:30 am. In the midst of a pandemic and major social unrest in the USA WE HAVE A MAN OF THE WORLD bringing a smidgin of love and peace. I say thank you Gregory Porter. Much obliged!
Гениальный Gregory Porter, гениальный The Metropole Orchestra ничто не может превзойти это сочетание!? И еще раз, оркестр просто великолепный, самый лучший!!
