This part of the movie always made me feel kinda sad, knowing that the old man died in that China shop and the developers seem to show no respect for the deceased as they just destroy everything there instead of moving it all out first. Not to mention Gizmo is all alone where anything terrible could have happened to him.

@@t_man7259 A source from a friend told me that in the novelization, Mr. Wing was making plans to give Gizmo to Billy, but his illness hampered his ability to do so. But I don't know for sure. If only I could get my hands on that book.

In my opinion, the circumstances of gizmo loosing both his guardian and home by the greedy developers it was simply an act of karma when gizmo wound up in the genetics lab of the company where his spawn would wreak havoc later.

That cage was opened for a reason. Mr. Wing (the owner of his shop) opened Gizmo's cage before Mr. Wing passed away. This is the reason why Gizmo is sad, now that Mr. Wing is gone. Then that fate was brought up when the store is demolished, leading Gizmo to escape. But Gizmo's escape came to an end when that bow tied scientist picked up Gizmo. But of course Gizmo cannot stand the sunlight.

This scene does make me cry for that poor little fella 😢 When his cage door opened. It shows Mr Wing allowing Gizmo to be freed. He has planned for Gizmo a new home, only when Billy is prepare to take full responsibility to take care of him. But sadly he didn’t have any time left to give Billy in person or delivery Mogwai to Billy’s home. With the due of his mentality illness. Lucky Billy did rescued Mogwai and take a good care of him. Good ending.... 👍💯
