The thing that strikes me the most about all the stories of residents who were able to escape that night, was the fact almost all could have gotten out so much sooner, had they NOT be told to stay put. Two stories in particular, one a family on the 21st floor, and another family on the 14th floor had been told by 911 many times to stay put, and firefighters would rescue them. Both families waited over 2.5 hours for that rescue, and only survived because they essentially made a run for it when flames breached their apartments, as they had no other choice. There were so many issues that contributed to this disaster, ALL of which can be directly traced back to human failures of government. May this be a reminder worldwide to NEVER, EVER, allow something like to happen again. *Rest In Peace To All That Lost Their Lives That Night* *God Bless All Those That Survived To Find Peace, And Healing*

As soon as I find out that something like that has happened and I’m in the middle of it, I’m not listening to anyone. I’m getting out of there straight away . The best person to ensure my survival is myself. The best person to ensure my family’s survival is myself.

@@mrkipling2201 I agree with you!! A few months ago my 20 year old daughter was going to Toronto to stay in a 30 story apt building, and I told her if the alarm goes off and there's no sprinkler system get out asap! You might feel a little stupid, but you'll be alive!

In a “normal” block fire; the safety measures would have been enough to keep the residents safe but this one wasn’t “normal” due to the cladding. There have been other flat fires (Lakanal house for instance) where the stay put order did work. Me personally? If I’m ever in a situation like that, I’m out the door.

@@UncoordinatedPixie Truer words hav never been spoken..... The whole situation was so tragic, not to mention there are still to this very day high rise apt. buildings wrapped in that cladding! Boggles the mind really... 😔

@@sherribrawn3757 What "boggles my mind" is that supposed grown-ups, professionals on a good £, have not performed their jobs properly and have OKed the installation of flamable materials on a high-rise building! They act like fire is a new thing and "who'd have thought a tower block building would go on fire? Lord, we didn't see that coming!". Can't believe people have thought it ok to put flamable sheets into a building.

In a divided society the voices of ordinary people get lost and discarded...and the tragedy at Grenfell Tower is a prime example of that.

Fire fighters should be allowed to give an opinion of all failings that night, with absolute assurance that they would not be disciplined for an opinion. Then watch the shit hit the fan!

This was a national tragedy. A tragedy that rests with the tories.

Awful. I hope the people of Grenfell who survived are compensated thoroughly. The fire brigade did their jobs well.

I agree! There are many people that blame the fire brigade, but it all comes down to that cladding on the building. It was almost like wrapping it in gasoline, and the fact there were no sprinkler system didn't help matters either.

What those people went through I will never be able to understand, hopefully it's a situation I never find myself in, but I hope they're all able to find the help they need in the future. I have so much respect for them. Fire brigades comment was a little out of order, things should have been different, more funding, more equipment and better training.
@UncoordinatedPixie

All the training and equipment in the world won’t help when you have dangerous petroleum based insulation cladding panels that are used to repel water but instead allow the fire to spread up like a chimney due to a piss poor design meant to save money.

Moving testimony by the survivors. RESPECT. As for the decisionmakers....WAKE UP AND SMELL THE 72 BODIES before you open your mouth. Quote: "...Corporate slaughter..." - these words are chilling.

Well, terrible thing, these poor people shouldn't have died, but there's a silver lining, the architects are happy after the destruction of a 1970s eyesore.

Instead of survivors working on getting a share of the 11 million pounds raised by public donations, they should find out the real cause of the fire - a fridge caught fire, no one put it out...really?
@sherribrawn3757
@sherribrawn3757 3 года назад
That fridge fire would have been put out in minutes with little to no harm to the rest of the building, and it's residents. Everything that happened from that point onward was down to one thing, the gasoline soaked cladding. How a product such as that was allowed on a high rise apartment building with no fire suppression system is beyond disturbing, and 72 people lost their lives because of it. Every survivor in that building should be compensated millions for that disaster which is down to the government's negligence....

The gentleman who said the fire started in his flat isn’t the bad guy. Why didn’t he put it out? We don’t know. Perhaps it was too big? Already spread out the windows? The ones to blame are the ones at the KCTMO
