Ever since I heard this kid belt out the first vocal note on Highway Tune about six months ago I was hooked and watching this band grow very fast. Not because of what they do, It is how they do it. Raw and complete! Never stopping short of the roots and the subject in the event of the songs. I love this family... They had their entire lives planning this, it is obvious... Way to go!
Well said...can't agree more. In my mid-50s and grew up on the great classic rock bands over the years - and these guys are really bringin' it to the table. Been crankin' their stuff up on the car all summer!
I'm a 58 years old guitarist, and thought that this kind of rock music was dead. These young guys are bringing it back! I get emotional every time I listen to them, im scrambling to learn their licks, this hasn't happened to me in many many years. I hope that they are around for a long time, and that other young people will be inspired to pick up the guitar again! IMHO, GVF is definitely not a Led Zeppelin clone. I was born in 1960, I've been playing Led Zeppelin tunes for a very long time. There are very little similarities in the chord structures of GVF and Zeppelin music. Both Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones were already seasoned and highly sought after studio sessions musicians, when Led Zeppelin was formed. Jimmy Page played a completely different lead guitar style than Jake Kiszka, and JPJ had an altogether different bass style than Sam Kiszka. And while Danny Wagner has the same drum setup as John Bonham, he is a distinctly different drummer. GVF and Led Zeppelin are distinctively different bands. True, both have a singer with a tremendous vocal range, but Josh Kiszka does not remind me so much of Robert Plant, but actually reminds me more of Geddy Lee, from Rush. GVF, IMHO, is a singularly unique band. They are kicking it old school, and have the "sound" of classic rock, but they are definitely not ripping off anything. I'm proud of these guys, Josh, Jake, Sam and Danny. They're doing great job bringing out the music that is in their hearts, and not imitating anything in particular. If they remind us of Led Zeppelin, I think that it is more that they that they remind us of that era of rock music. A three piece band and a killer singer was the ticket that brought many 60's and 70's bands fame. I'm fortunate to have lived through the original experience, and now I'm fortunate to relive it, with Greta Van Fleet!
True, I find Jake to be very complete and highly influential in his own accord. To add to your Rush comparison I find that the bass finally plays a very big role in GVF, it's pretty distinctive actually. I find the one who has room for growth but I look forward to hearing more of is the drummer. He can transcend a band like this with unique beats and progression which will quickly put this band at the top talent level of many bands in the 60s and 70s and parts of 80s.
By the way I am 34 and so glad a band like this is here, not to harp the Led Zeppelin tune again but I wish I could have seen Led Zeppelin live and the grove these guys produce is similar, Woodstock 3.0 here I come!
Those opening Lyrics kill me...."Oh my holy lord, sets my soul on fire...flames of love and sweet perfume, she's my soul desire..she's an angel straight from hell, pulls me to the deep...in the darkness way below, it's my heart she'll keep"....no words can explain....
Alright the future is gonna be alright. Some of the young ones get it. I feel that rock emotion I had when when I was 15. Wow raw talent no denying it. Good luck boys. Rock on. Thanks for the vibes.
Me too flipped me the fk.out and that's hard to do!!! This Hippie loves them...No harm ever to them!!! Taking #'s kicking ass,. Rock is back THANKS TO THEM BOYS!!! (Men) 💞💖💞No 27 shit either....UNDERSTAND WE ALL NEED YOU ❣❣❣
Absolutely stunning performance for such young men. Takes me back to By Tor and the Snow Dog and Dazed and Confused by Rush and Led Zep. Keep it going guys. You are the real thing. Best wishes from Scotland.
I had never owned a Gibson SG until I heard these kids ..I now have three, am building one myself, and am looking at another! Up until now, I was always a Strat guy.. but now after hearing Jake's '61 Les Paul (yes it was the very first Les Paul model ) I am hooked. Oh yeah .. and these boys ROCK! They are all I listen to anymore.. and did I mention.. I'm 72 years old?
First time I watched this, I honestly can't believe the power of this song, the bass lines, the singing, the guitar work, I am more than speechless, haven't heard anything like this in a long time, giving away my age, lol...
check out some of their interviews... they are articulate, intellegent, polite and yes, wise beyond their years collectively...and single handedly rejuvinating/revitalizing/recouping ROCK N ROLL and screw anybody that doesn't get it.
Not just rock music, but music in general NEEDS Greta Van Fleet. I've been doing this for over 40 years and I can't adequately express how much I love these guys and what they're bringing in every show, every track, every time they sit around and jam to catch that next hook. They love it. That makes it real easy to love em.
Kevin Peterson I am 67 and am amazed at how many older people like myself love them. I think that alone says something. We have been around a long time to know something good when we hear it✌️
Can NOT wait for their full length debut. These guys are amazing & for those saying they sound like Zeppelin I would like to say there is a difference between being influenced by & mimicking. Besides there are worse things than a band trying to sound like Zeppelin. These four young men could just be what is needed to become what I already think they are THE SAVIORS OF REAL ROCK & ROLL. Don't know about anyone else, but I am just a little sick & tired of rap & hip hop & overproduced pop.
I see a lot of comments of people pissing all over Josh because he's copying Plant's singing, gestures, etc... I just watched a bunch of live Zep for a refresher. I've got to say I think those carbon copy comments are a bunch of bullshit. Josh is his own man with his own style. Same goes for the whole band. They're unique and really good and so fucking fun to listen to. I'm very happy to experience new rock and roll from these guys. Keep it going GVS! And thank you! I fucking appreciate the hell out of you like so many others!!!!
"Coming of age" from the mid-60s to the early 70s, my musical universe centers around Yes, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin...and radiates out from there. My ears just had an orgasm in the middle of my brain after listening to this. On the way home late tonight from my girlfriend's house, I was punching the presets on my car radio and "Stairway to Heaven" was playing. I almost punched the next button, but didn't. If I had, I would not have heard Greta van Fleet for the first time, playing Highway Tune. How have I not heard this band yet? I could not wait to get home and check them out on Google and here on RU-vid.
Just finally seen them, Such an outstanding performance, rocked the House of Blues. Like I knew the would. SEE THEM, I've been to so many shows of similar music. Top Three
"Cloud Train", "Thunder Stomp", "Standing On", "By The Riverside", "Written In Gold", "Sing In The Rain", "Down To The River", "You're The One", "When the Cold Wind Blows", "Evil", "I Wanna Be Your Man", "Get You Down", "Watching Over", "Only Time Can Tell" and this one "Lover, Leaver, Taker, Believer" are all previously released and unreleased songs that are currently unavailable. Maybe we'll see some or all of these tracks on the upcoming debut full-length album released sometime in the Summer 2018. To think that they also have a stockpile is even more impressive.
Oh my holy lord Sets my soul on fire Flames of love and sweet perfume She's my heart's desire She's an angel straight from hell Pulls me to the deep In the darkness way below It's my heart she'll keep Thunder underground Watch the castle fall Sound of wind it takes the sky Winter takes us all Mountain high against the sky Watches as we pray Laughing out and smiling proud This is where we lay Lover, leaver, taker, believer Oh god hell fire Watch his fingers raise So he'll fall down to his knees And watch the fire blaze Satan plays his flute for you The sound it burns to hear Watch is eyes His peace of mind slips in place of fear
There is shitload of virtuoses, acrobats, sterile musicians, but after 5:00 i can hear between these 4guys i can hear the next level,5th element, instrument called chemistry, unity.which is very very rare to achieve.
I thought L.A. Now the Soundman is of the charts!!! Mix me a drink anytime and I don't drink ANYMORE,well hell I should start....MAKE IT DIRTY.... EXCELLENT JOBS GUYS💥💥💥
People wanna talk crap that they sound like Zep.. What's wrong with that!? These guys can really rock out though and it's not just a gimmick. They are the REAL deal. Cant wait to see what else they have in stored
rupman27isback why be a cheap led zep? There are far too many bands with this sound to stand out. This is my first listen of the band, and whilst I dont mind the song and appreciate them as musicians, i dont think ill spend any more time listening. Just feels like ive heard this song a million times before.
They don't really sound like Zep though. Sure, the singer has a resemblance to the other singer, but that's where it ends. They've been influenced by more blues, and have grew up listening to classic rock, which is making a resurgence through them and other bands. It's all about the time.
Stage filled with brothers who are prodigies. Talent is absolutely astonishing. I hope they stay hard rock. What a treat at age 56 when I thought late 60's and 70's rock were gone forever. Hoping they don't get poppy.
I just watched a 13 minute drum solo by John Bonham, and yes.. he is phenomenol, but give credit to this drummer, Danny Wagner. He is amazing in his own right. His syncopation, change ups of tempos and improvization is right up there with Bonzo. Face it, these guys don't follow the normal rules of song construction, and it takes one HELL of a drummer to keep up with them! By the way, Danny is a BIG guy! Tallest man in the band.. probably 6'2", and he uses that size for extra power.. he absolutely crushes the drums! Look for one of his drum solos, I believe on "Black Smoke Rising" .
I'm not ashamed to say these guys out of Frankenmuth mi. Are just getting better and better live. Even with such heavily produced studio work, they really really pull it off live. Rock on boys.
I was born Rocker. I know perfectly what ROCK is. Not anyone can impress me. GRETA VAN FLEET just did it!! These Band is The Best I have hear since the good years of many Legends of Rock that I admire and follow, always. Congratulations! To the amazing three Kiszka Brothers and excellent drummer Daniel Wagner. New Generation of Rock!! ✔ You got me Boys!
Being From the ttime of Kiss Led Zepp. Mountain. Too many too name... These young Cats stack up brick for Brick!!! Hope they have a long ROCKING career!!!!!
Red Rocks 09-24-19 last show before quarantine at Red Rocks still jamming out to them. I have seen most as I have been traveling the earth for music for 35 years but do not play any instruments I collect guitar picks ,sticks, set lists etc and have been incredibly fortunate to have met hundreds if not thousands of bands over those decades. These young men are the real deal and a return of real rock and roll that I love. Please do not scorn them because they sound like a mash up of about 30 bands from the 60's until now. Not sure how that is a bad thing? They will surprise you if lucky enough to see live.
