In this video, we examine the awesome vocals of this very Led Zeppy-sounding band. Do you think they sound like Zep? When The Curtain Falls. The song that launched Greta Van Fleet.

As someone that I would call myself "an old timer of great Classic Rock", it's good to see young and upcoming bands such as Greta Van Fleet continue to champion the classic rock sound.
No, I don't live in the past, but I am an appreciator of great classic rock music and those that have the ability to re-create it.
I remember a few interviews about this song and Joshua's denial of his Led Zeppelin influences, claiming that he was more influenced by Aerosmith and Steven Tyler (probably because there was a nervous "Oh you found me out" denial from Josh).
Nonetheless, the band put out a great song with a great sound and I wanted the opportunity to take a closer look at the lead vocals.

they shocked me, the resurrected spirit of Led Zeppelin, when I heard them for the first time. but that's not the point. the main thing is that their songs are great in themselves. and not just the influence of giants. for me, they are one of the discoveries of recent years. an amazing band

I think the Zep comparisons go about as far as they did with RUSH. If you listen to all.of Garden's Gate, there's a ton of varied sounds on there.

I mean, he sounds exactly like Plant, and even does a lot of his vocal “mannerisms,” if you will. Unlike Geddy Lee who doesn’t really sound like/copy Plant at all except for having a high voice (which many vocalists have, obviously). I’d say the comparisons go MUCH farther than they did with Rush.

Whatever you heard, Josh never said any of that about Aerosmith. In a video interview I'm sure you can still find, _Robert Plant_ was the one joking about their influences and mentioned Aerosmith. When it comes to their influences, they cite all kinds of names and Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin are among them. They've mentioned recently that their reasoning for not mentioning Zep more even though they're obviously a huge influence on them is because they didn't feel confident enough with the maturity of their music to flaunt how obviously they were influenced. Once their newest album started to take form, they felt like they could finally stand on their own feet musically instead of worrying about sounding too much like their influences, so they more readily admitted their channeling of Led Zeppelin's style.

Ya know, artist who work this hard to produce something so good deserve a chance to be seen apart from their biggest inspirations. Gets on my nerves for some reason. "That's very Robert plant". We get it.... I think he sounds like Geddy lee.. and a combination of other people, but his voice is unique and interpretation of rock is SUPER

I think you should give them more credit than you are giving them. I’m 50 yrs old. I grew up with Led. I think Led is a fantastic band. That said, I am more of a GVF fan than I ever was a fan of Zeppelin. Josh has way better range and he has extra special power! He has a twin that rocks the fucking guitar. Plant didn’t have that twin connection. So, my take-away from your video is: Don’t be so quick to call them a copy or rip off band. They (GVF) deserve high praise. Thank you for allowing me to share my opinion.

In my opinion, this is the most fascinating Live recording GVF has to date. The sound is fantastic! The whole choreography and musical ability and range of these guys is very noteworthy! It makes you feel good when you listen to this, I think!

I love Greta Van Fleet!!! OMG, when my curtain falls there is nothing people can do to raise it back up… Wow, Josh Kiszka voice is a great combination of Robert Plant and Bon Scott!!! When Josh leans into the sound… This is what happens when Van Fleet meets Zeppelin crossing AC/DC!!! “Well, I love you in that movie show Can I have your autograph? It's so funny you have such charm The whole thing made me laugh” This part right here is so Bon Scott “Well, you're so pretty and I love you so You know I'm your biggest fan I saw your picture and it's the best The finest in the land” - This begging part is like listening to Robert Plant… So unique

GVF is one of the most exciting bands right now!!! Josh is a MONSTER singer, performer and songwriter, but all the other band members are exceptional too. Their last album is unbelievable, but most of all their live performances are out of this world. If Metallica is taking them to open their shows all over the world, I think this is not a band that should get easily overlooked. They keep coming up with amazing stuff and I’m obsessed!! Also as singer myself i must say few singers have excited me this much in a while… I have studied everything josh has done and I’m shocked at how impressive, intentional and melodic his singing is. I know he’s been influenced by soul music a lot too!! Pd: they’re touring the world, released an AMAZING album last year and will soon release a another one!

I can definitely understand the 'we are nothing like them dont compare our sound' mentality to a point. When I first started learning music, I became super interested in The Doors and Jim Morrison due to his voice being very similar to my own abilities when I was beginning. Now so many people recognize and identify us with The Doors whenever we show up somewhere to play music that I internally think the same 'it's not all we can do i don't want that to be my only identity' although I don't think I'd want to go as far as thinking 'there is NOTHING similar'. I think this band tried so hard to get as far away from the Zepplin influence but it's clearly their best attributes, and in my opinion none of their other songs match up to the level of When the Curtain Falls and Highway Song

I've seen them 5 times live, each time at larger and larger venues. Josh's voice is incredible live. The Zepp comparison is so old and tired, that they've started to ridicule his outfits...really? If you haven't been to see them in concert you have to make a point of it.

This song is a few years old and probably the song that sounds the most like Led Zeppelin. Check out tunes from "The Battle at Garden's Gate" which released last year ... with songs like Stardust Chords, Heat Above and Trip the Light Fantastic. They took a different, cinematic course with that album.

Have you listened to their latest album, The Battle At Garden's Gate? It's even better at their live concerts! An AWESOME band full of talented musicians and Josh's voice is stellar! His vocal coach has brought out the best in Josh, who was already a great vocalist! They've said many times that they were influenced by LZ, but now they've developed their own unique sound too. I can't wait to hear their next album, which they've said will be scaled back to more of a garage band sound! 🥳

Oh yeah, a lot of Robert Plant there. When I first heard them on the radio, I was thinking, is this a Led Zeppelin song that was previously unreleased? But there IS a difference between the two...so I was actually pretty confused until I heard the song again, only this time hearing the bands name before it played. GVF also covered Zeppelin songs and did it very well.

You read my mind on these guys 👍 But to be fair, you can hear him REACHING for ST's Dream On type distortion, AND ... dare I say Geddy Lee's range and clean pitch control during the Signals phase. Now BLEND all 3, Plant, Tyler, and Clean Geddy channeled through unique Josh Kiska. That's what I hear. Thank God for young ppl with their courage to do it. Robert is on interview, saying "He sounds like me in the 60's, I HATE HIM", lol 😆

When I first heard Greta, I loved hearing some young kids do rock with a 70 Zep vibe. I love Zep and really enjoys Greta's music, but come on man your sound and look is very Plant like. Your music is great, but denying it has a zep sound and feel left me a little dazed and confused.

Love me some Greta Van Fleet. Josh has one of the best vocals in rock today. I will go as far as saying in music today but I know that's debatable but I don't care I am gonna stick by that. There is just to much popular crap that makes me want to hurl that I feel that there is next to no talent in it and anyone with pro tools could produce. Great song great pic from your subscribers Ken. I will say there new album out is much less Zep sounding. I think they finally come into there own. They are on tour with Metallica nuff said for a group who has only in there own right been together for a few yrs professionally. The state of music today is so saddening to me when you think about all the great music that has been produced in the past. there is nothin memorable about music for the last 20 yrs. These guys are a breath of fresh air with the status of pop and rap in todays folds. amazing job Ken and killer scream sitting there like a boss imitating Josh. Keep em coming my friend.

Bit of Zep and Rush... but they are their own band as they grow. They have a 70s classic rock feel. I would say he's half Geddy Lee / Robert Plant. My 16-year-old daughter loves them and we are going to see them with her in October. Every album is good in the opinion of this half-century-old rocker. Looking forward to the next ten years of this band.

Maybe he just doesn’t want to live in leds shadow? Josh, Jake, Sam, and Danny are very influential both with their characteristics and talents. And in my opinion Greta is better than Led. Opinionated matter for sure, but don’t FORCE josh to live in roberts shadow. He wants to be original and he’s worked his ass off to deserve it! Good video.

I enjoy listening to them every now and then and hope they will continue to develop more of their own unique sound. Their latest album does seem to be a little more varied. Seems like a lot of bands copy from others initially as they develop their sound. Maybe they should've picked someone more obscure to copy. 😂

One of the bands I was in about ten years ago maybe played a gig with GVF. My gf reminded me. They didn't sound any more distinctive than any of the other bands out there. Probably because they were SO young. I am however, glad to see their success. Thre is a singer named Chris Gillen who lives just outside of Detroit. He crushes any of these cats. He can sing Sebastian Bach / Chris Cornell with ease. If you do a search for Overloaded Hellfire, you can hear hom at his best. The recorded version is obviously awesome, but there is one from the Token Lounge where he's singing Hellfire live and he absolutely kills!

I saw them live last summer. Very good live band. Not a ton of flashy production. Just 4 guys performing live and doing it we'll. Not shaking their booty's to a bunch of backing tracks.

Their drummer, Danny Wagner, was recently interviewed by AXS TV. He indicated they have new music coming out in the not too distant future (2023). I saw them in Las Vegas in 2019 at the Hard Rock. I was very impressed by their performance, and I have seen a lot of rock bands dating back to the late 70s. Always happy to support the young musicians keeping the rock genre alive. I saw Dirty Honey earlier this year and am looking forward to seeing Maneskin and Ghost at some point hopefully soon.

These guys are from the quaint little, tourist, German Bavarian town of Frankenmuth, MI. Known for their world famous chicken, and is a Christmas Wonderland. Only 20 miles up the road from where I live. Worth a trip to check it out... I had the opportunity to see GVF in concert a few months ago. The Dreams in Gold tour. Most electrifying!! Also, they have been accused of coping Led Zeppelin (great set of pipes, Josh!) In my opinion, they do sound to some degree like them and other bands such as Rush, Aerosmith, AC/DC... However, I figure these bands were influences to GVF, so of course they are going to sound a bit like them. But as time goes on they will keep growing and evolving into their own cool, unique selves 😉💖🎶😎🤩

Ken I noticed you have no advertisement of your course live. You see that brick wall behind you a small neon sign Ken Tamplin Voice Academy. Should always be in view. I know you're not a shame but total professional, you deserve every penny you make. Not many people know you spent over a million in just vocal classes and decades of study. Thye knowledge you have acquired goes beyond singing you have turned it into a science, and a philosophy. It's not just singing it's a way of life almost like an athlete. Keeps the mind fresh relieves depression, pain, so many benefits. But do it without pride but the love of the vocal instrument. Ken your course offers a Harvard education of Voice. No one can teach like you. Your a Grandmaster of Voice. You did to voice what Bruce Lee did to Martial Arts. There is so much new talent out there that needs to find you. We need them great lyrics and music to come back. Bubble Gum music is out dated and boring. I would like to see you offer some Ken Tamplin vocal coffee mugs for sale. They would make nice Christmas gifts to hand out to choir singers, friends that are singing or humming all the time. Your RU-vid downloads are addictive and so informative. History will remember you as a conservationist of vocal. So much garbage, so much pride has destroyed the creativity of bands. STOP THE INSANITY!

I know this is old but just came across it. I can respect your opinion, but what vocalists did Plant get his sound from? My understanding is Josh’s’ folks listened to tons of different music, I believe a lot of Blues and Rock. Whether it’s Plant or any other vocalist, they all take something from someone. I did hear you repeat some of the track on this song, you didn’t sound anything like Plant or GVF. I think Josh has a greater range and is just an overall better singer than Plant. I’ve heard Plant say negative things about GVF at first, but I think he’s starting to come around. GVF will be around a long time, and I’m here for it.

Well the Robert Plant sound is obviously there and strong but when you add in the music it’s even more noticeable. At least to me. That can be a good thing when you consider how long Led Zeppelin has been out of the picture. We need new music even when it sounds similar to other great bands because it’s all become so boring and little thought goes into so much of the current music. I wish them the best. Only because there is too much emphasis on the TV shows (The Voice,America’s Got Talent)….There are endless singers out there but very few that can write or play in a good band. And if his future is that of Robert Plant’s his voice will be shot in about 10 years!😂

What's wrong with sounding like LZ if you can? I loved GVF's first album, but then it seamed they tried too hard to get away from sounding like LZ on their next ones. They need to get back to what made them popular and screw the critics. Just make good music and people will listen.

Great voice but for me it's a little too one deminsonal. Robert Plant didn't just sing high he had multi deminsons. So the high singing is like Robert but that's it.

I've been a Greta Van Fleet fan from the moment I first heard them... @Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy ... Maybe examine LILIAC ? They opened for KISS, Loverboy, Been on The World's Best and are a great up and coming band.

Big early years fan of Led Zep and saw them live in 70. I dont like GVF. So close to Plant voice i just cant get into it. Vocal sounds forced to me. Just not my thing. But i'm a senior citizen now, so what do i know?

Agreed it's really insufferable especially If you play a Zeppelin song then a GVF track right after they sound like an annoying tribute band and entirely uninspired.

They were probably influenced by zepp ! and alot thought they were the new led zeppelin but def curtain's fall and highway song are the best !

Robert Plant surely didn't sound as contrived as that fellow. I cannot even get through a full song of GVF's - similar with non-instrumental Rush songs. They (RUSH and GVF) could form a modern-day Supergroup and call themselves: "Elves with Attitude". But I still would skip through until I found an instrumental :-p Rock on, Kenny Boy!

They opened for Metallica - saw them about 4 weeks ago in Pittsburgh. They sounded ok but all the songs started to run together They were simply dwarfed by the massive Metallica stage.
