Picked these two up yesterday, so did a demo. There is minimal talking and lots of sound comparisons between the two guitars. I A/B between the two guitars with the same settings on each performance. Mixing up Rockabilly, Country, Rock, Swing, Fingerpicking & a bit of shred! Clean, Crunch & a few moments of gain. Hope it helps anyone interested in picking up one of these limited edition Gretsch's while they are about. Cheers.

Very much appreciated mate. I will get round to finish the rest of the album I said was putting out this year. Tracked all the drums last year, put out 4 tracks and I just haven’t had time to finish all the guitars & mix the rest yet. Will do though! Thanks for the motivation 😁😁

This is a great demo video..one of the best ones ive seen for these guitars..you really work out a lot of sounds and styles here,and the versatility of this gretsch..ive have been on the fence about getting a 5420 for a while now and this video sealed the deal for me..i thank you but my wallet will curse you!!!

I have the Electromatic G5230T-140. Not wild about the pearl white back or the Bigsby but (and it's a big but) you get proper Filter'Trons and hump block inlays, making it as Gretschy as a Gretsch can be.

Fantastic playing and superb demo! Having a White Falcon plus several semi hollow Electromatics, I have been wanting to get a Jet at some point but can't really afford the Japanese pro duo jets these days. This new G5230T may just be the ticket!

Thank you mate. Yes I was in a similar situation, got quite a few hollowbody Gretsch’s and fancied a solid jet. Went for the G5230T instead and it is great! Enjoy mate 👍

Great looking I got myself one but it was broken out of the box so sent it back now just waiting for a new one to arrive 😃 But I must say it's a beautiful looking machine I have the 5420 Thumbs up from Geelong Australia 🦘🇭🇲👍

I have 3 Gretsches including a Player's edition Sparkle Jet. So you know I HAD to have a G5420T-140. An absolute necessity. Oh, great playing BTW

Thank you so much for making this comparison! I’m thinking of getting a G5230t and I wanted to see how versatile the Blacktops are but most videos just stick to one style of playing. I needed to hear the twang but also how these pickups handle heavy distortion. This video was a great help. (Awesome playing too) Thanks!

Thank you mate, thought it only right to put a bit of heavier stuff in there! Yep the 5230T is pretty diverse, you can crank up the gain without it screaming, but also get that nice twang if needed 😁

These pickups sound much better than the Broadtrons that came in my Streamliner. More of a traditional Gretsch sound (shredding aside) than Broadtron humbuckers.

Thank you. They are both pretty much the same to be honest. Both have “U” neck & 12” fingerboard radius. The 5230 maybe slightly easier to play, but that’s likely because of the gauge 10 strings, where as the 5420 is shipped with gauge 11 as they just suit the hollow bodies better. Hope it helps 👍

For my ears the 5230 has more twang....those pick ups are the same in both guitars? Thank you!

I completely agree regards more twang on the 5230. Both have 10’s, but the they feel really light and twangy on the 5230. Yes the FT-5E Filter'Tron pups are on both 👍 Cheers.

Great guitars and good playing, but keeping it real as possible??..... That would be plugging straight into a real amp and recording it with a room mic.

Cheers Mike, yes I think my “keep it true as possible” was more to do with both guitars being put straight in and nothing was changed while A/B’ing them. I could of mic’d up the valve amp but that would also be dependant on the mic & the positioning. I guess no one really knows the “True Tone” until you pick one of these up & put it through your gear 👍 Cheers mate.
