I started with dyed hair close to my natural auburn color and let it grow out naturally since I wasn't willing to lose any length by cutting. Hair dye was making my hair shed and very brittle so I ditched the dye. It looked awkward at times and the grow out process can seem painfully slow but I'm so happy I did it.
A few months in, I removed/lightened some of the hair dye color by doing a few baking soda washes followed by a vinegar rinse to close the hair cuticle, directions found on Google. It did lighten it, but is terribly drying to your hair and my hair was already super dry but I followed with deep conditioning and only did it a few times. As the color was fading, it looked very "blorange", but I kept going and wore it pulled up a lot or with hats.
I have naturally curly hair and it always looks different on different days. On days when my hair was extra curly, it looks shorter with less of the dark at the bottom showing and the silver always looks whiter and brighter in natural sunlight and outdoor photos.
I wasn't willing to cut my hair too much so I just lived with it during the transition and would do little micro trims myself to keep trimming away the dye.
Below are some of the products that helped me during the grow out process. Products listed are my actual products and not sponsored however, they are affiliate links which means I receive a small commission if you click and purchase. Thank you, so much for using my links!
