Strategies for dealing with the heat - a Grey Heron Ardea cinerea employing gular fluttering, the avian equivalent of panting (manual focussing was required as the video camera's autofocus mechanism was confused!), and a Red Fox Vulpes vulpes dog fox sensibly seeking shade. From the condition of his teeth, he was estimated to have been at least four years old. Note how little concern was being shown by the heron as the fox walked past.
