If your not a musician, you have no idea how hard that is to hold down a walking base line with your left foot while playing to separate lines with both hands ❤❤❤ that’s like playing Bach ❤❤❤
Barbara Dennerlein has been on my request list ever since I found your channel, and other videos have kept pushing her back! I believe she is the BEST Hammond B3 player out there! Another problem requesting her work is that most of them are quite long. Barbara Dennerlein is German. She plays all over Europe. She does come to the US occasionally. The organ started life as a Hammond B3. She has modified it extensively. The foot board sound is selectable but is usually set up to mimic an upright base. The organ is portable and she takes it with her to gigs. Thank you ROB!
When you first said, "listen to that left hand!", I was like, "wait, that's the foot!" and right then you realized it. She's got 10 fingers doing different things, along with that foot and the right foot on that pedal! Crazy!
The earliest video of Barbara Dennerlein I've seen is from 1984 from German TV. She plays The Lady Is A Trap with a jazz big band. At the risk of giving up all my stash of her videos, here is a link to Talkin Blues: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WE8--OFFmN4.htmlsi=NtzTnxJi2JhtOITy
It is almost impossible to find an organist who works the bass pedal board with the brilliance and efficiency that this woman does. It's a pleasure to find it on your page
barbara dennerlein is just awesome, she's got that unique style. first contact was around 1990 in a small church in southern germany, and i instantly got infected ;) i've got almost all of her records, i mostly prefer those of around the 90s (but of course my personal taste and maybe reduced accessibility by mine for "free-jazz"-headed songs of more recent years...) .. and my favourite album still is "take off" from 1995. .. oh and i even had the opportunity to carry her organ from stage to the tour bus after a show some 20 years ago, where a fellow musician was playing drums with her. i felt quite a bit honoured (and still do) ;)
Thanks for featuring her. I went down the Barbara Dennerlein rabbit hole a few weeks ago and had the same reaction. She is equally adept at Jazz. There is a wealth of material for you to check out
I hope the Boss doesn't get upset, but here are 3 more links to Barbara Dennerlein videos I think are outstanding! Barbara Dennerlein has been around since she was a kid---started playing professionally at 15. She produced her own first album hen she was 19. She's great and is especially well known for her pedal work. She pioneered adding computers and synthesizers to her Hammond. She'll play and record on about any organ you seat her on. She is probably the best organist in jazz... and also great in any other genre.
