Welcome to 1 Minute Animals! Join us as we discover the most fascinating facts about the Animal Kingdom. Subscribe for an exciting and educational journey into the wild!
The Grey Wolf, also known as the timber wolf, is a highly social and intelligent animal that is often misunderstood. They are the largest member of the canid family and are found in various habitats throughout North America, Europe, and Asia.
Grey wolves live in packs that consist of a dominant breeding pair and their offspring. They communicate through a range of vocalizations, body language, and scent marking. Despite their reputation as fierce predators, wolves mainly feed on ungulates like deer and elk.
Unfortunately, grey wolves have been heavily persecuted by humans due to fear and misunderstanding. They have been hunted to near extinction in some areas, but conservation efforts have led to an increase in their populations in recent years.

Wolves have always been my absolute favorite animal since I can remember. They are so beautiful. Before my daughter was born I bought a stuffed wolf for her, and years later she still sleeps with it every night. If we go somewhere and she forgot it at home she goes “can we please go back and get wolfie? I need her.” Its so sweet.

You’re a wonderful mama, my lovely mom gifted me a stuffed snowman when I was 2. I’m 25 now I still sleep with him every night 😂 it’s a bad habit I could never break. I used to joke with my parents that I would bring that stuffed animal to my wedding bed. My amazing husband has been sleeping next to my plushies for almost 9 years now. 😂 I’m so lucky I found someone who wasn’t bothered by it. I want to buried or burned with it when I’m dead. It’s been with me through hell and back I’m way too attached.😂

Learned from a wolf biologist at Yellowstone, too, that there’s never been a single wolf attack in the park since they were reintroduced. So definitely possibly to see how they formed a mutually beneficial relationship with early humans

Yet people somehow claim that wolves are vicious killers and need to be killed. Even though they are the very creatures that sustain Yellowstone and the world

In our country a sheep farmer recently got bitten in his arm by a wolf... everyone got mad and the wolf got hunted down for doing this. But then he came out with the truth. He was threatening the wolf with a pitchfork because the wolf was going after his sheep, he was running after the wolf with the pitchfork while screaming and shouting. I bet the wolf was very anxious and scared it got no way out because they were in a pen and when they cant run they fight. More and more humans are hating wolves for going after livestock and i feel so srry for them because its in their nature and our country is very small and highly populated. Wolves returned only a couple of years ago after being "extinct" from our country for centuries because we hunted them down and scared them away. Im so glad they came back and they even made a pack in a few provinces. Wolves are a protected species and now they want to change the law so it will be legal to scare them away from our country once more with paintball guns or even hunted down. Humanity is a shame why do we deserve to live more than other animals who actually came to live here before us?

And yet people in my country go crazy whenever the subject of wolf reintroduction is brought up. "Oh they're gonna go round killing children and pets and dressing up as your grandma and doing this and doing that and blah blah blah." "That's the same species as that dog you've got there that you're talking about," I'll say, "and wolves are an essential part of the ecosystem." "Oh but they'll kill livestock!" We just need better fences then, don't we? Remember we're the invasive species. Wolves have more right to be here than we do. How is the ecosystem supposed to function when it's not balanced? It's unsustainable not to bring wolves back. The natural world shrinks more and more every day because so many keystone species are missing. I don't understand why people are scared of wolves. How do they think they became our ancestors' best friends? I'd love to see wolves in the countryside. Controlling the deer population, preventing overgrazing and helping forests grow back. Fertilising the soil and improving the microbiomes of plants, making them healthier. Britain needs its wolves back! Humanity's best friends in the wild again. Maybe I'd be lucky enough to have a close encounter with some one day if they were reintroduced. They're such beautiful and majestic creatures. And they're so friendly. I love wolves.

@@Dont_Reply.to_Me the entire concept does come from one study. The study took quite a long time but the entire time, the observer had a complete bias that his hypothesis is true so they associated wolfs helping each other out or taking care of their families with them being an "alpha" and controlling the pack Current day studies prove in great detail that there are no animal groups that have an "alpha male" since the only groups where something similar happens are either monitored by the females or the one controlling the group is a female themselves (examples are clownfish and lions)

Honestly, as unfair as it is to think of wolves as "evil," I find their hunting strategy does make for a good metaphor for evil, predatory/abusive human behavior, and bad habits in general. I recommend watching TierZoo's episode on it, in case I got any of the steps mixed up. For a summary, however, first they pick out a weaker member of the herd to focus on (injured, sick, young, old, etc). If the herd stands together and faces the pack, the pack will often back down if it is too dangerous. If they run, that's the opportunity. Next, they try to isolate that member from the rest of the herd. They will then wear it down before finally going in for the kill once it is worn out. Similarly with people, we are most vulnerable to evil & bad habits when we are too young to know better, suffering from an ill thought process, or have a previous problem that isn't yet resolved. If we have a support structure to help us avoid the problem, it is often enough to prevent it from taking a hold. However, we are often tempted to avoid people we know will talk us out of it, or for some of us there is no functional support structure (ie what is supposed to be there is dysfunctional). That is another strike against us. A wise, determined mindset to avoid the problem might work, but it might not be enough. However, running from the problem will only weaken us until we are too worn down. I actually think it makes for beautiful metaphor, and possibly where "the big bad wolf" started, because it is incredibly similar to how bad habits take us, evil behaviors, and also how people will often prey on each other, since it is incredibly effective predation even in the abstract. It is unfortunate that certain groups of people unfairly applied this to actual wolves, they are beautiful and majestic creatures, quite similar to us in a lot of ways. In particular, unlike the other great apes, they are social predators like us. They are beautiful animals and it should in no way make us look at them wrongly, but it can help us understand our own vulnerabilities.

I am once again asking for you to make a video on the Australian cobber dog
@robynsmith4164
@robynsmith4164 Год назад
The Australian Cobberdog? I’m going to Google it right now! I grew up with an American Border Collie who was a Blue Merle. His Mama was a Blue Merle but his Daddy was a Red Merle. He looked just like a Blue but he had areas where you could see a bit of Red when he was out in the sun. He was extremely smart, gorgeous and was basically the best behaved dog I’ve ever known! He lived to be 13 years old and died of pancreatic cancer (well, was put down when he was in A LOT of pain from it and started not eating, even if he was hand fed). That was 14 years ago. Phew.. sorry, I’m crying like a baby right now. R.I.P. Kirby, freckle face, fuzzy butt… 😔😢 My parents and my oldest brother both have miniature Australian Shepherds, my brother’s is a Red Merle and the my parents’ is a Blue Merle. The Red’s coat is GORGEOUS, she also has a bit of Blue Merle in her coat but I think that is common with Red Merle Australian Shepherds…. They are both so beautiful, smart and VERY well behaved! I’ll be right back after I look up the Australian Cobber Dog! 😁 *EDIT: Wow, I LOVE Australian Cobberdogs! They are a PURE BREED Australian Labradoodle. How big is your dog? I’ve seen these amazing dogs be anywhere from a small to medium size up to a large size. There’s a famous dog somewhere online who’s name is Brody. He will sit in the driver’s seat when his owner gets out and have one arm and paw hanging out of the truck while looking forward (like he’s really cool and relaxed) while he honks the horn with his other arm and paw, telling his owner to HURRY UP! It’s so funny and beyond adorable! Brody looks like a large Australian Cobberdog. They say that Aust. Cobberdogs are usually breed to be service dogs or therapy dogs. I read that they don’t bark, and if they do it’s when investigating a weird noise or if you surprise them. Hey, humans yelp if surprised! I would really love to hear about your dog! Does he/she shed? Is he/she highly energetic or are they OK with going on a couple walks and being allowed outside into a large nicely fenced in yard when needing to go potty or just to explore for a bit? Every dog and cat I’ve ever owned was an "inside" pet. None of the cats I’ve had ever went outside and my dogs have always been inside dogs but allowed to go outside to play/potty if they wanted to. Sorry so long! I hope that you and your loved ones have great Easter weekend!✝️🐰 Love from Texas ♥️🤠🌴
