I actually think the grid view makes a LOT more sense than the original scrolling view, for performance , and composing. Anyone coming from an Ableton Live background will definitely make good friends with the new grid view. Great video, Ron. Honestly, you have a real gift for making tutorial videos - they are concise, well spoken, visually clear, and always showcase a product very well. I consider your channel to be the "Official Deluge Video Guide"! Keep up the good work!

Yes the grid mode has very dimmed lights when clips aren't launched. I think I overcompensated still but it's good!

Wanted to mention I overcompensated on the lighting, and by the time I was done it was late at night so decided to keep it. Will have better lighting next time haha

one thought,..........If you have any lighting (preferably coloured) which has a realatively strong beam, I've had real success by just using one as a 'Side Light', so that it illuminates your hand movements, but maintains contrast with the gear..............like this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DZoLFoFU86U.htmlsi=yVctPNz9TfxnENe7 Frankly, I generally find that 'Less is More' as far as lighting, when the gear has it's own plentiful light sources, but I realize that what you do is more 'educational', and so you probably want to avoid anything too dark and moody.......understood

Thanks for doing this beginner Grid Mode video Ron. I watched your other video on it and this one just clicked with me better. This mode seems much easier to compose songs on and not just have cool sounding clips. I have a quick question for you. If I install the Community firmware, did they mess with any of the common functionality. I don’t want to install it if I need to relearn standard functions. It was hard enough the first time!

I set them like this enabling me to follow along to this video: - Default Grid Mode - SHIFT + SELECT > DEFAULTS>UI>SONG>LAYOUT>GRID - Grid Settings - GRID>DEFAULT ACTIVE MODE>GREEN - GRID>SELECT IN GREEN MODE>ENABLED - GRID>EMPTY PAD UNARMED>ENABLED

when I try to follow your tutorial my deluge doesn't look like yours... I've made sure that I've installed the latest community firmware official release... but after turning the deluge on and pressing the song button i only have two lit pads on the entire deluge.... over at the far right side, first two colums at the very top I have green and to the right of the green pad I have a blue pad... so currently the song button is lit, and the green pad and blue pad at top of far right corner under the shift button....... and that's all..... from this point I can't seem to follow your tutorial?

Press upper left pad it should make a new pattern there

@@RonCavagnaro thanks... managed to step record some drums and real time record a synth rif.... is it possible for each track to be it's own length because they are both the same right now and the synth riff track needs to be lengthened 2 more bars to fit the riff correctly

How do you get it to come on in Grid Mode? I can switch to Grid Mode but, when I switch off an on, it is back to the Row Mode.

It does - all new features work on the OG 7 Segment displays. It's really worth considering the screen upgrade, as it just makes navigation and options so much clearer... Not to mention selecting and searching samples becomes a breeze!

@@ILLUDIUM_Q_36although I hated sending my Deluge away for any time, Synthstrom were very efficient and I got it back in just over a week (I'm in Australia) I actually liked the original display, and it certainly has its retro charm, but the new screen just makes using the Deluge a lot more enjoyable (if that can even be imagined haha)

In grid view the clips are 4 rows down from the top. What are the empty rows above?

You have to delete one pad at a time hold pad press delete. No undo so be careful

on further inspection I see that you have the new oled screened deluge, mine is still the older version with the non-oled screen ... I wonder if this makes any difference in how things should be working on mine?

@@RonCavagnaro I will check, it would be really nice is there was some very basic, very slow tutorials.... I just found out that to get to grid mode I had to do the turn knob while holding song that you mentioned.... so I got to the next step but now stuck again... it's not going in and out of clip mode like in your video... I will keep at it.... it's extremely frustrating because I am not a noob, but feel like a fetus not being able to follow this video

@@444levels9 start with my boot camp series, this is as basic as i can make the video if its too fast start at the beginning. This is showing a way new function it should be very basic but if not start go to my playlist and start the deluge Bootcamp.
