Although there are many ways of counselling, comforting, and supporting a grieving person, many people don’t know what to do or say when someone they know has experienced a loss.
As therapists, we may need to help grieving clients eventually learn how to stop grief from continually burdening their lives.
In this video, you will see a demonstration and description of how rapport building during a grief counselling session can help to let your client talk about their loved one, with Mark Tyrrell of Uncommon Knowledge and an actor.

I’m starting my internship in a few months and I’m terrified of grief counseling. I freeze up when ppl cry or talk about a deceased loved one. This helped me a lot!

I’m at 21 months. My stages have been all over the place. I’ve always felt my purpose has been done. And ppl avoid me. My husband said no 1 else could have tolerated me during this time. Made me feel worse. In these days it was passing in a half a day or sometimes 3 days.,then a good day or 2. Then a trigger and the drowning suffocating process starts all over again. Hold on it will pass and it does. But the walls are closing in. I’m hoping in the summer I can get better. No1 reads these comments but it still feels good that I kinda said it. I don’t say it to a person

it would probably feel like a stab in the heart to hear that from someone who is supposed to care about you, sounds painful

I read your comment and I want you to know that you should not feel bad about being moody or even angry it’s part of the process. You will get better in time.

Many thanks. This was very helpful without the complexity. For those in grief, often much isn't needed, just space to work through the emotions and someone willing to afford them that courageous place

My stages have been inconsistent. My mission has always felt complete to me. People shun me. Nobody else could have tolerated me during this period, according to my husband. It made me feel even worse. It was passing in a half-day or three days back then, then a good day or two. The drowning suffocating process is then restarted by a trigger. Hold on, it'll pass, and it will. However, the walls are closing in. I'm trying to improve during the summer. Nobody reads these comments, but it feels wonderful to have said something. I wouldn't say that to someone I had to see my therapist about.

You can grieve someone who's still alive, such as a parent. And it's even worse than if they're dead

Can you give me an example of how a person can emote. What do you mean by a person emoting? Do you mean they are putting a little bit of an act in order to receive more attention or a dramatic act? I'm learning psychology on my own through RU-vid that's why I ask. Since COVID I've had many people suffering from depression and the crimes here in NYC has many people stressed out so I decided to educate myself in counseling to better communicate support and care. Today I have a young man who lost a love one.

I had to compartmentalize what was happening because I couldn't handle all the things that happened to him & remain sane. I couldn't handle that he was trapped in a fire AND his body was literally hacked to pieces while Tower 1 was collapsing on them. He was burned and hacked apart & I've never been able to handle the why? Why did the happen to anyone, much less a perweqln who was good and honest and decent & fa, whos3 worswrt crime was that he strayed across the path of 19 maniacs?

Brenda, I don't know you personally, but I can feel the emotions in your comment. The anger and sadness that comes from losing someone that is very close to you. No one can tell you to "get over it" or "move on" regardless of how much time has passed. The truth is that grief is not something we move on from. Rather we move with. Its about adapting to life with the loss, and finding ways to connect with your loved ones, in a spiritual way. This takes time, and effort, and is never easy. I am sorry for your loss, and I hope that you can find the comfort and support that can help you. I apologize if I overstepped. Have a blessed day.

@@brendadrumm9708 I am glad that I did not overstep. Thank you for your words. And thank you for sharing a little of your story, and more importantly of the emotions that you are experiencing. I know I don't know you, but nonetheless I want to tell you that your feelings are valid. I have not experienced what you have gone through, but I can imagine the pain the pain that it must be causing you, and through your first comment I was able to sense the hurt and frustration that you are experiencing. If I can help, even just by listening know that there is someone. I have never been to England. And I hope that you and your loved ones are safe over there! I am from New York.

@@brendadrumm9708 Brenda, we never truly stop grieving. When we've loved someone deeply--almost to the point where they were a part of us--we will always miss them. This will never cease. But I hope and pray that you are able to live a life that can honor the life your son and daughter would've wanted to live if they were still here on earth. Every day, live your life in their honor.

What happens if your grief became complicated because you were essentially "watching" him be murdered? What do you do with the raging anger, esp in light of the fact that one of the people who's GUILTY of helping murder him was FREED from Guantanamo based on a f'n political stunt?
