Grigori's story is actually kinda sad, with the Combine throwing headcrab shells at them, Grigori tries all he can to save his friends from the Headcrabs in that lonely mining town for escapees. That's why he said "Be free, he child!" and "I remember your true face."

I love that Grigori has a more old, ww2 loadout, meanwhile gordon have his more modern, combine loadout.

This is way more unique then the other videos, actually seeing this part of half life 2 in Grigoris perspective shows a whole new fight.

Reload animation on that Winchester 1897 is done better than most. Typically, we see the last round loaded into the tube being cycled into the action (in other words, a pump at the end of the reload cycle). In this case, it's the first. That's a better way to do it (since it permits firing while reloading), the ultimate being a chamber-load like we see in Killing Floor 2 (though that's a more complex animation). That only applies to side-ejectors. A bottom-ejector like an Ithaca 37 would have to be loaded as we see here to get a full load of mag tube plus one. "Mag tube plus one" applies to all fixed-tube guns, including lever-action rifles like Annabelle. Assume "plus one" means "plus one round per chamber," so if it's a tandem or duplex gun like the DP-12 (or anything similar), and has two magazines and two barrels/chambers, it's everything times two. Contrast with the Kel-Tec KSG which has dual mag tubes and one barrel/chamber. So it would be mag tube times two plus one in the chamber. Also, I like how Grigori uses mostly old but powerful weapons that have a Jakobs aesthetic. "If it took more than one Sh0t, you weren't using a Jakobs." This video got me thinking, what if Father Grigori's Annabelle was a Winchester 1895 instead of an 1892? You know, since that model was made for the Russian market (Edit/Note: originally for the Russian military, but then bolt-actions starting becoming standard-issue, partially because it's a stronger mechanism), and this is somewhere in Eastern Europe. The 1895 was a top-loaded lever-action rifle in 7.62x54R with a fixed 5-round box mag. Could be loaded with stripper clips or single-loaded.

Love the use of the KF2 Winchester lever action rifle as Grigori's Annabelle. Wonder if there are actually mods out that show a good representation of Annabelle as a player-usable weapon.

I always liked Grigori. While he is certainly nuts he isn't crazy in a way that fiction often depict people in zombie infested places. I always wondered how many people might have been able to escape thanks to him to Black Mesa East or the Coast. Certainly not as many as the man himself had wished for but I am certain that some rebels we meet in the game are former residents of Ravenholm.
