When someone sends you an ingredient you have never heard of you might scratch your head and wonder what you do with that, at least that is what I did. But after a bit of searching and pondering we came up with a gem of a recipe that we cook over the live fire at camp using the Snow Peak Takibi fire pit. The combination was magic!

Recipe for 1 pound pork belly
Marinade
-1.5T Soy Sauce
-2.5T Banana Ketchup
-1/2t Garlic Powder
-Juice ot 1.5 Small Lemons
-1/2t Fish Sauce (optional)
-1/4t Pepper
Mop
-1.5T Soy Sauce
-3/4T Maggi Jugo (optional) www.bonappetit.com/story/maggi
-1/2t Fish Sauce (optional)
-IF YOU HAVE Knorr Liquid Seasoning you can replace Maggi and Fish Sauce using 1T
-Juice Of The Other 1/2 Lemon
Dipping Sauce
-1/2 Cup Vinegar
-2 Minced Garlic Cloves
-1T Finally Chopped Onion
-Red Pepper Flakes To Taste
-Salt To Tastet
-Black Pepper To Taste

Ya, once Mark threw banana ketchup into the mix it sort of forced me into some odd areas for me. But I think you could use regular ketchup and probably change up and use Worcestershire sauce instead of the Maggi and fish sauce and still be ok-will change the taste a bit for sure but I bet it would still be really good! Also the skewers saved a ton of scraping on a grill grate so I would recommend using them. Thanks for checking it out!

It was so much better than I expected and I used the skewers totally to avoid having to clean burned sugar from my grill, but in the end it worked so much better than grilling anyway! Thanks for dropping by!.

As a Filipino kid in the PI who moved to the US, many of my western friends never liked the sweet taste of banana ketchup, especially in spaghetti sauce. I felt the same way about tomato growing up, but later on, I forgot the taste of banana ketchup and, like many others, found it weird as time went on. It's amazing how food can be an acquired taste. The sweet taste goes well with barbeque skewers, and that dipping sauce is fire!

Definitely some sugar in that but the final product didn't taste overly sweet and had a nice depth to it.

They put that stuff on everything. (banana ketchup) Have some here in the house of course! They sweeten a lot of the food there! Those chunks are pretty big for Filipino cooking! LOL You are eating it all wrong though, you must have 75% rice to 25% meat! That is how you do it! LOL Banana ketchup is on burgers, hot dogs, you name it. Fun video! SALAMAT PO!
