“Losing Bret would have been a big hit on the live events… Bret was always that staple that drew houses. He was big on the live event tours and sold tickets and made money for the company.” Bret haters need to make up new narratives. The facts don’t care about your feelings.

We are called "teens of the 90s who watched wrestling" not Bret haters. Go back rewatch from about Nov 95 to Montreal. HBK/Hart are getting booed at PPVs and SCSA who is all heel not trying to be cool for a good 6 months gets cheered. Do you know why? Because HBK/Bret were lame to us. In fact I had friends later in like late 98/99 who only watched WWF and had no idea about who either were that's how insignificant they were. JR knows damn well there is a huge difference between a house in 1996 and a house in 1999. You can line up ratings, you can line up news articles, you can line up profits, Bret/HBK do not matter. A packed venue every day for 2-3 years is what SCSA/the Rock can claim...Hart/HBK are the 83 weeks WCW is winning. Facts don't care about your feelings, a fat conman who stalked Ric Flair, dirt sheet writers, or WWE rewriting history because VKM is gay for HBK.

Yeah that's why WWF ratings went UP after HBK and Hart were finally out of the fucking way You young millennials and zoomers weren't there or were too young but when an event occurs that millions experience I'd trust what the millions say vs WWE documentaries, IWC smarks like Conman, or Dirt sheet writers. Go ask a random 40 yr old if they know who Bret Hart or HBK were then ask them if they know who SCSA or the Rock were. It's obvious. The 83 weeks lands almost entirely on when the belt is being shared between those two and it begins to end when they leave.

Eric's personal animosity towards Hart makes any thing he says about the contract doubtful.
@darthbigred22
@darthbigred22 2 года назад
I'd think if Bret was truly offered a contract that had Turner movie deals as part of it then that would have came out. I recall he said that in "Wrestling with Shadows" and AOL Time Warner still had to pay everyone's guarantee to the end of their contracts. Therefore if there was some truth to that Bret could have gotten more or at the very least been a in a few Turner originals, I think they were still making them for awhile after the merger and there was for sure a two films made in that time frame that went to the box office. So yeah actually the fact no one thinks to ask Bret about that, the fact Mr. Angry Canadian never brings it up, and the fact he wasn't in "Ready to Rumble" or "Gods and Generals" is a little weird. Heck for a guy who wanted to get into TV and movies he barely does them if you check his IMDB. Hogan, Cena, Rock, even SCSA have actually been in movies that were released in theaters. Other than "Trailer Park Boys" and "the Simpsons" most of Bret's choices are third party shit appearances in shows hoping to be syndicated. I mean he couldn't even get on Hercules, Xena, DS9, Voayger, Walker, etc? Those shows would have just about anyone on them. That's more evidence for the Screwjob was a work.

Phony promo and a setup for the ultimate work the Montreal Screwjob. 1. Documentary about a guy most Americans had no idea who he was is suspicious. I wasn't watching WWF in 96 but I can assure you Hart was not so big you just knew who he was anyways. 2. What was "Wrestling with Shadows" going to be about anyways? a) Hart staying with WWF - waste of a movie b) Hart leaving to WCW over raunchy WWF- pretty lame c) What the documentary actually is one guy dancing back and forth between companies, his hate of HBK, and getting screwed because of his refusal to drop the belt to HBK...how lucky for that poor documentarian who until that point had a boring documentary 3. VKM forgets Hart has a documentary crew at Survivor Series? 4. VKM forgets to tell Dunn to have something to switch to just in case? In fact I am sure there has always been a "just in case" promo or "technical difficulties" rather than zooming in on a wrestler being screwed, spitting on the boss, and finger singing WCW. 5. Hart mentions the contract did have movie tie-ins. So where are they? In fact if he loved TV and movies so bad how come he didn't go do them? SCSA was in more relevant TV shows a year later. Rock was in even more at his peak and that was merely as a wrestler. Hart's wanting to go to film seems like a lie because I'm sure he could do more than a few shitty shows no one has ever heard of minus the crappy Lonesome Dove prequel no one wanted and the Simpsons 6. If Montreal was for real then it was insanely lucky that Bret decided to have a documentarian there and that WWF let them have so much film? I heard Paul Jay, the director, claim that VKM threatened to sue Paul Jay over releasing "Wrestling with Shadows". Jay claims Turner agreed to pay all legal fees and back the lawsuit IF Turner could distribute the film. Allegedly VKM backed down as long as Turner never got the rights. Is there any proof of this agreement? Surely it was more than a verbal contract? Turner had enough money to bury VKM, a lengthy lawsuit alone would have drained WWF even more and of course Turner could have buried him with CNN since that would have been a "real" story then. 7. Unless you are a sad smark with more money than brains, Meltzer, or Apter if you were a pre-teen, teen, or adult in 96-98 and were not watching WWF you likely had no idea who Bret Hart or HBK were. The ratings war bear that out, the success when they both leave bear it out, WWF profits bear it out. So do you think two middle aged wrestlers who are pissed off the kids don't like them might pull off the ultimate kayfabe just to make a point in the end that one day they can say they pulled the wool over everyone's eyes? 8. How many in the Kliq said it's a work? Everyone but HBK? How many wrestlers say it's a work? About 50/50?
