Expeditions was carried so hard by the art. It’s one of those things that I hope the expansions fixes the game but I also completely agree that a game should not need its expansion. Especially with how expensive the base game is.
The game is good without the expansion. A guy in my group who barely likes any new games liked Expeditions best of all new games in the last year and actually requested it multiple times.
I'm interested in Terraria, but I haven't played the video game and I wonder why I would like a board game version more than a cheaper video game that I could play today.
Fun? It ought to be, but sometimes we can lose a sense of perspective. In general I find fun in most games, and the few genres I struggle with I generally avoid, but will still give them a go (and IMO it's healthy to do so). Fun stealers? Being involved in running a board game group, sometimes my responsibilities there can give some additional stress. I get emotional reward from seeing it go well, but will stress over little issues or concerns. Those that want our hobby to be a socio-political battleground. Such combatants (on both sides) can be a real downer on our hobby if we let them. I endeavour to ignore them these days.
30:54 Yes, I actually prefer Calico to Cascadia! I LIKE how restrictive it is, because of the fact that there aren’t as many options to do - therefore, it helps me focus on what I can do - compared to a game which gives you a bajillion different options and asks you to pick one (or more, if they give you action points, for example, which you would be able to distribute among a bunch of actions), etc.)
Grimcoven launches June 6th according to the GF page countdown timer. I think itll be a good, decent game. I hope itll be great, but it seems itll just be good. And there are so many solidly good games and very few 10/10.
Expeditions was not play tested at 4+, it was one of the worst experiences I have had in a fair while, coming back with an expansion that adds a sixth player just seems terrible.
This is a lie. Why are you lying? I played at 4 last night, and it was fine, plus the expansion speeds the game up, which is why they added the option (not recommendation) to play with 6.
@@PurpleSmurfProds If you go last in a large player count game the players that go before you can easily take the spaces that get workers and stay on them for 2 turns, then just swap positions. So it takes 4 to 6 turns before you get a start on your workers. Playing a worker placement game without workers is not all that much fun. If any play testing had been done at 4+ some one would have commented on that, so the only reasonable conclusion is that they didn't do much at the 4+ space. As for the experience being one of my worst that is without an argument, I would rather chew my own leg off than play again.
@@stephenlake7398 It's shorter to say you just don't understand the game. It's not a worker placement game. If the players ahead of you are doing nothing but collecting workers, they have no cards to use them on. If that happens, you should be gaining cards and exploring. They did extensive playtesting, and there was no statistical disadvantage to going later in turn order, as long as you didn't foolishly stall your entire game waiting for a worker spot to open up.
I played age contrived this week and we hated it so much. I really need to do some research and figure out if we were doing something wrong. Thanks for the news update!
I recently played Imperium Horizons and I got to remember why it's my #2 game. It's so freaking good. As for crowdfunding, I'm in a spot where my group and I are not really active enough for me to consider backing more games. The only exception to that will be for expansions for games we love and I want to see what Grim coven has to offer but it's not a guarantee back. My excitement for trying new games all the time has diminished as I want to play more games I already know I love. Btw, nowadays I feel like if you missed out on a game and it's any good, there is a good chance that the game will come back with more content in the future and even offer the 1st campaign previous deal. So might as well wait and see if you're unsure. Dragon Eclipse is a game that comes to mind for me because I was hyper about it pre-campaign and I decided to pass and wait to see if it's any good. Since it's a monster based game ala Pokemon, I feel like it will be easy to expand upon it. I have enough campaign games already anyway, so maybe by the time the 2nd arrives, I'll have room for it in my life. Who knows? 🙃
