Yep; instead of being new characters, they would have been new versions of G1 Grimlock and Swoop. However, to keep the combination gimmick exclusive to Energon, they were released in the Energon toyline.
I found if you unlock Grimlocks Dino Head like you would turning him into robot mode, the two figures actual lock together when combined and you can even clip Swoops wings onto Grimlocks body for extra support. This not only strengthens the Mega Dinobot build, it also shifts the figure centre of gravity slightly forward helping him stand.
I think strapping a jet pack to a pteranodon is a touch of genius. As far as I remember from my days devouring anything dino-related, these guys were only able to glide, with no real way of gaining altitude. Jet pack fixes that :)
Ever since I saw this duo, I wondered if they intended this to work like the other Energon combiners in that both have a top and bottom mode. Just something they reversed at the last minute and thus left them in a horrid state.
The combining is an interesting gimmick. Maybe they could bring it back in a modern subline? With today's standard, they could do some great things with the concept. Grimlock combining with any of the other dinobots would be quite awesome. Great review.
im gonna try to custom make these as ACTUAL energon combiners, o they can connect with other energon deluxe figures. a good starting point is probably gonna be a old generations grimlock. from then on, its guess work
I feel these could be better Dinobots today. Just upscale them a tad, remold and retool them to not fall apart at the joints, add some paint and they'd look amazing
This would have been so awesome if only for the design. I have always loved grimlock, and having him as a combiner would be amazing. Sigh if only......
This video made me laugh my head off. I'm gna guess the gaps on grimlocks arms are to reduce weight? If his arm could slide up his top half would be solid and he'd be way heavier
Sorry the grey paint on the pieces jutting outward from the leg. That's what I think happened. The open space the left there should they wouldn't use extra plastic and they would save some money
i do kinda like the whole powerlink gimmic and i heard that these guys where suppose to be release in classic do u think that hasbro should try again with theses guys ?
for some reason i want to get this toy just because its so far it is the only dinobot combiner made so far and Spada if one of the customizers does customize the toy for you, will you review the toy again?

Personally, I'd say this mold of Grimlock looks better in the G1-ish colours, y'know, from that recent "Evolution" 2-Pack. ^^ Plus, that red version of G1 Razorclaw's sword suits Grimlock quite nicely. :) Also, is it fine that I just got that version for Christmas? ^^; Really, it's the closest I'll ever have to a proper G1 Grimlock. (Also, this review is enjoyably funny. XD)
YES I have that two, I actually like Grimlock however after watching this review I cant say I like to the combo. I reckon its good for collectors, I was really hoping that Swoop would be with Strafe in his evolution 2 pack instead of the mini-con, but I still want the deluxe Swoop that's for sure, its a nice figure.
