Fun fact, Nick's actor directed this episode, that's why they did the transformation spell so they could take him out of a bunch of the episode in a way that made sense.

Love the fact that Nick didn't deny loving Adalind when Eve Said she could feel it

I love the scene with Monroe and Adalind, comedy gold. Also you are absolutely right about Sacha nailing Nick's mannerisms.

For a child actor, Diana had that soulless creepy stare down oddly well.

Renard has always been slimy. Every time he’s courteous and kind to someone, it’s only because he’s getting something out of it…except for Diana…I think his love for her is genuine. His mum was not exactly the warmest person and his childhood was always about surviving so I’m sure he has never really had a true relationship with anyone.

The thing about Renard though is the fact that as a gray character, done very well, it leads to conversations & discussions. Though many people were surprised by how bad Renard went, I never was, as the coin storyline showed his ambitions. And of course his dealings with Adalind & her Mom to kill Nick's Aunt & steal the key while also doing his best to convert Nick into a follower of his against his family. Even his interaction with the resistance, at the meeting with them he told them that with his contacts & access they could do a lot more and that he had a Grimm. So, even then, Renard viewed Nick as an asset he could use. I thoroughly enjoy him embracing that arrogance instead of downplaying it. Renard cares about Renard, his Mom, and his daughter. Everyone else is an asset or a liability. It's a truly awesome piece of character work, that Renard, bastard son of the King, hunted by the Queen until he & his Mom fled to the States, grows up to be the model American citizen, and fights the royal family. To watch his development, seeing that his family comes first & everyone else comes after. That he expects to be obeyed & that he's willing to ally to whomever it is that helps him achieve his goals. I wonder if Renard ever realized that he has become the royals he fought.

You always question what is driving Reynard. I believe it’s his possession of the coins from the first season always pushing him to seek power in whatever form it comes to him

I think we all agree that this cast is fantastic and love knowing that they became really good friends off screen and continue to be friends after all these years. They did enjoy working with one another and had so much fun on the set. You'll see that in the behind-the-scenes of the seasons. And I love how that translates on the screen. You see how well they interact with one another. A few of them moved to Portland to film the show and stayed there, like David Guintoli and his wife Bitsie Tulloch. Also Dakara, how are you surprised to see Renard be so scummy? lol. You must've forgotten how that dude was hooking up with both Adalind and her mom in the very beginning. Ew. And he was always looking out for himself and no one else. He hasn't changed much. The only time we see him soften and be more understanding is when it comes to his daughter, Diana. From what we've seen, he does love his daughter and he does care for her, to hell with everyone else lol. I guess his good looks must've distracted you. He had you wrapped around his little finger 🤣 Such a great episode. I still remember it after all this time. Can't believe you're almost done watching the show. I too was like, "How the heck are they gonna end it? I want my closure! They better give it to me." LOL

What I find ironic is the fact that Eve/Juliette is worried for Nick but she was actually the one who wanted to kill him in season 4.

The title is a reference to the poem, "O Captain! My Captain!," which was written by Walt Whitman in 1865 about the death of Abraham Lincoln. The poem also was notably a pivotal part in the script of the 1989 film Dead Poets Society with Robin Williams, gaining further popularity. This episode is the directorial debut of David Giuntoli. Only 10 great episodes left.

I wonder if it was awkward for Eve to accuse Nick of loving Adalind where at this point I am pretty sure the actor playing Eve and the actor playing Nick were engaged in RL?

Back as promised! I was so waiting for this episode! It's defo the funniest of all Grimm. Nick pretending to b Renard was on point, especially with real Renard's reactions. But of all of it - i was waiting for your reaction to "eh, take her" line and u didn't disappoint. Second funniest aspect is next episode with Meinser i can't wait for u to show either.
