I play a Magic the Gathering Online Modern league with Sultai Slogurk Loam Control, a brew from Patreon subscriber UnrighteousJob! This deck is going HARD out of the graveyard with Life From The Loam and Slogurk recurring lands while Snapcaster Mage and Eternal Witness recurring spells. Is your Loam pox Golgari? I've been thinking about Jund pox recently, red gives you Wrenn and Six, Crack the Earth, and Molten Vortex. It also gives you 'die to blood moon', unfortunately (especially if you also add white for flagstones).

At 30:59 you could draw loam, but you could also mill it and dredge from consider, which results in the same thing except you have an extra three cards in graveyard.

Wonderful league overall, as someone who doesn’t really pay attention to modern this was a really cool deck to watch! Also, it didn’t end up mattering but 1:57:26 the gurk has trample so the push was game winning even during combat

Really cool deck. Hard to be certain of what to take out or put in, but could the sideboard benefit from Mindbreak Trap for combo? Dunno if maybe a one-of Bojuka Bog could be value too?

I was wondering if emergence zone would be worth looking into. Can sac it and cast ravens crime at instant discarding there card in draw step and can get back emergence zone back with loam and replay it every turn keeping it going

To play smallpox you want to build a deck that’s good at playing a small resource game. This is a deck that’s always pushing toward huge resources. Loam Pox could be a thing, but it’s not this build.

Sick deck! Slogurk is an awesome card. At 1:57:24 you could've cast the fatal push on germ token and trampled over for lethal, because Slogurk has trample. You gave them an extra turn which could've been bad if you didn't draw another removal spell like you did

I absolutely love this deck. I think with a little more support or more answers for the graveyard hate this deck could easily viable. Do you think a Temur or 4 color version of this deck could work? Whenever I see a land based graveyard style strat I always think about Wrenn.

@@roberttyo4939 that’s kind of how I feel. I played Wrenn, White, and Blue, and W&6 is such a beating against most deck midrange/control decks. All control wants to do is uptick planeswalkers and make land stops. Wrenn checks both those boxes

Just from the deck tech. I'm surprised not to see 3 boseiju in the board. Uncounterable spells vs hammertime that recurr with your main game plan. It also doubles as the fulminator mage tech with 7 ways to recurr instead of only 4 and costs 1 less mana. And vs tron it doesn't matter if they fetch out their 2 forests.

Path to Exile is still good and is underplayed. You do want Damnation in the sideboard because you have Unearth and Aylea. Get their hand down, Damnation their board and then get there with a Slogurk, a Snapcaster, or some bears. And it shores up Living End and many of the aggro-control decks the list was struggling against.

Path to exile is not good in modern. Its really bad. Ramping your opponent in your control deck is TERRIBLE in the modern metagame.

@@howlingpantera22 It really isn't bad. It never was bad. That's just what everyone says. So everyone says it more. In most of these games, both players had a full grip of lands on the field. Cards in hand and advantage engines in play are more important than mana. Having your own mana to play your own strategy on curve is more important in a non-Wasteland format. Your opponent has already tuned their mana curve for mana reliability. Like with many cards, there are tradeoffs. Yes, at times you should not ramp an opponent by removing their dork or ramp them into a powerful 3CMC spell; but by assessing the tradeoffs you can take a hit from the creature on board to remove it a bit later, trading damage now for a tempo denial from the ramp. In most cases, I'd rather have the efficient, unconditional instant speed removal and deal with those corner cases with tight play.

As one of the guys who UnrighteousJob built the deck with and playtested against, it's mostly a grindy-control deck that slams Ayula's influence when it's time to end the game in one turn, not really a value play. It can happen, but not that often.

I'd say Wasteland should probably be legal in Modern because of how greedy the format's manabases have become, but then I remember Wrenn and Six is banned in Legacy precisely because of how it works with Wasteland.

The unfortunate aspect of this deck is that Fire, Bolt, Push, Ending, and Heat are all answers to Slogurk, and are all heavily played. Beyond that, Grave hate against the Loams and how slow this deck is with grinding make it not good for MTGO. It might be good in Paper, where the chess clock isn't a factor, but as is, it feels to slow.

As shown, you can play around bolt, sorta play around heat. Ending isn't really an answer, it's tempo neutral and puts you up on cards. Fire... does 2.
