I think the real problem with the trilogy is that Leigh Bardugo is just not great at writing about good people. She writes her best when she deals with horrible characters, or at least morally grey ones, such as Nikolai or Kaz or...basically everyone in SoC. She herself said she loves writing anti-heroes, and it shows A LOT in her books.
I’m currently reading SoC and so far everything is pretty good. I haven’t read the OG trilogy and now I’m scared to. It doesn’t sound like a good book.
You're one of my most favorite BookTubers out there, you just seem so honest with your opinions and I love that genuine and snarky personality that really sets your channel apart 💜💖 (Also this might be a bit late but Happy New Year Jordan ❤🎉🎇🎆)
Loved this! I'm very happy I'm no longer the only one who loved the 3rd book and actually likes Mal! Love reading vlogs, I'd love to see more of those!
You are so wonderful! I really discovered lots of great books thanks to you, and this means a lot, because I just couldn't move on and continue reading after Six of Crows.
Love this vlog and I love your honest opinions about the books. YOUR DOG IS SO FLUFFY!!!! I also loved your glasses, your earrings and your hair! I read the SOC duology (loved it!) before the Grishaverse trilogy last year. I didn't mind the trilogy. It has a certain 2012 charm to it. Seige and Storm is my favorite of the three. I wish it had been more of an in-depth, complex adult fantasy and I hope that someday Leigh Bardugo makes the jump into adult fantasy. Either way, it is one of my favorite YA series.
It’s interesting to see people’s reading habits with these vlogs. I am very much the type of person to binge read a book in one sitting or over a few days rather than slowly read a book over a week or 2. Like I legit never keep track of the page numbers or how much of a book I have read. Unfortunately, it means I spend months at a time not reading since I don’t have the time to binge read nowadays :(((((
giiirl, we're in sync, im literally so close to finishing Ruin and Rising now! I had read Six of Crows before, and so I decided to go back and read the trilogy this break, right around the same time you did. I'll come back to watch your last two videos as soon as i'm done and I can't wait to hear your thoughts! I'm hoping you hate Mal as much as I do lmfao
@@JordanHarveybookswell i'll be curious to hear your thoughts on him!! maybe i'll change my mind with the third book, i seem to hate him less in this one :)
Reeeallly like your vlogging style! I actually quiet liked the trilogy (despite its flaws and Alina) and I felt so smug when you said the last one won you over 😄
Really Nice reading vlog Jordan especailly the end was so cute. Can't want for the reviews and reading vlog (if you do another one) for the other books!
I'm a new subscriber! I found you because I was interested to watch some 'Throne of Glass' videos, as I recently read it and my thoughts about the book were lukewarm at best! Since then I've been slowly watching through most of your videos. I'd never heard of BookTube and I tend to stay away from Good Reads etc, and I haven't even read that much YA for several years, but I really enjoy your critiques and your discussions about story and tropes etc. I really loved this vlog, you should definitely consider doing more! Oh, also, thanks to you I ordered 'The Goose Girl' as it sounds precisely my kind of story ^.^ Take care, love Hannah from Australia xox
Personally for me book vlogs are more enjoyable when you film things when you’ve just read them and had some commentary in it. Otherwise the overview seems super vague and a bit boring. I really like how the insanereader does it
Are you talking about the thoughts on shadow and bone at the beginning? Or just the daily check-ins? I read a lot on the train and at work so I can't always film while reading aha
like the bit when you had thoughts about Zoya and Alina's relationship and just whipped out the camera to talk about it. It's interesting to focus on the smaller details, of course don't worry if you can't because of being public. I also really like the titbits about your life :)
I would love more reading vlogs! I have the opposite opinion to you. I feel like the series got worse the longer it went on. I hated R&R 😂 But Nikolai is king.
I don't read as much as I used to, but I enjoy hearing your opinions and how you break down what you read. Also I wish we had a family board game night 😭😭😭 Happy reading and take care!
Aw, Jordan! This was a mess but adorable? I thought this readathon was just the trilogy, oops. I would love to see more reading vlogs (as long as you enjoy doing them) from you, and your dog is cute.
I ended up listening to the audiobooks afterthoughts first one on 1.25 speed to blitz through it and even then I thought I would dnf it loved some characters didn’t glance at the rest , but boy as an introduction to the world of grisha before reading the SoC series and knowing the world a bit before. Also seeing Leigh bardugo’s writing upgrade in six of crows was really nice. All in all it was a relief to finish the geisha trio loft after book two I just wanted to end it
I would love to hear your thoughts on The Haunting of Hill House book by Shirley Jackson, and even the Netflix show of the same name (I know you've done movie reviews in the past so it might be worth giving a go!) I'm not big on horror at all but I loved both. The writing is amazing in both, the book is considered to be one of the best in the genre (and why not give the best of the genre a chance?), and the show was paced extremely well. I found the book to be very engaging and beautiful. I found the short TV series (10 episodes, completed, no future seasons) to be heartbreaking, equally beautiful, poetic, and just damn amazing. It's horror, but the show is more of a thriller so it's not very scary, more just creepy at times. The book and the TV show are VERY different though, so don't expect the same story. It's very loosely adapted. That being said, I highly recommend both. I read the book after watching the show, and since they're so different I don't think you would need to read the book before watching, just so you know!
Despite its flaws, I actually enjoyed the trilogy. Can’t wait to read SoC and CK, followed by the Language of Thorns. Anyway, whose excited about King of Scars? I know I am. So happy that Nikolai is getting his own duology.
I enjoyed your video a lot! Even if i didn't read the last 2 books of the trilogy because the first one was just horrible for me. Alina is such a cliche for the YA books, nowadays seems like everyone makes "weak" females, with blondish/brown hair, skinny and who think they are not very special but somehow males are into them and they are just sooo powerful but so dumb*eyeroll*. My dissapointment with the first book was as big as the one i felt for Three Dark Crowns so i just stoped but seeing that you enjoyed last book, i might give them a try.
