Very neat pattern /tutorial I must say I’m amazed at how much yarn there is before it changes to the next colour, usually in multi coloured yarn each section of colour isn’t super long. It honestly looks like you’re using several different colours and changing colour every couple of rows but you don’t, that’s very cool
I’m glad you enjoyed this one. This is a cake yarn, which tends to have a wider section of color before changing over to the next color. I really enjoyed how this one turned out 😊
I’ve been looking for a new blanket to make for my newest granddaughter 😍 I’m sure that I’ll make her several different blankets seeing how she’s going to be my last grandchild! It’s a miracle she & my daughter made it through the emergency C-Section, she was 10 weeks premature and spent a month in the NICU before she was able to finally came home! She’s got twin brothers and the oldest brother then a sister who’s 5 going on 25! I’ve already have the beautiful yarn 🧶 to make this blanket and I’ll most likely make her sister the same blanket just larger. Thanks for sharing this beautiful blanket!
You’re very welcome! I’m so glad your daughter and granddaughter are doing well. I’m sure she’ll be very happy wrapped in a beautiful baby blanket! Enjoy this pattern and happy crocheting 😊🧶
This stitch design looks wonderful with a subtle color change yarn, and it is really easy! I will make a shawl with this stitch. Thank you. Your hints on techniques make it easy for a newbie.
I've been looking and looking for a pattern for this particular ombre yarn I bought, and this is it! Thank you so much for this video! I love the look of this blanket....simply yet elegant! I love it!!❤️👍
This one caught my eye because in the middle of the stitch, it looks like a little rose🌹 I definitely saved this one to my Playlist. Thankyou ❤️ so much for sharing your knowledge with us😊
My sister had an antique wedding dress that was tea color. It was between the taupe and the pink of the Caron Cakes. This would have made a gorgeous shawl. Love your blankets. They are great patterns to zombie out on watching Netflix & crocheting!! Thanks.
Hi Amanda I’ve been looking over several of your tutorials today. It’s raining here kind of a lazy day jus right for crocheting. :-). Just wanted to say hello and thank you for all your beautiful patterns.
Hi and thanks for the great vid! You’re strips are terrific and placed perfect. Question, did you cut the yarn for color placement or let the rows stripe naturally?
Thank you! This stitch is most similar to the Suzette stitch. The only difference is how the blanket is started with the different chain multiples. The wattle stitch is a little different to this.
I just came across your video.. I’ve literally watched hundreds of videos and NOBODY has explained as good as you 😍 I have these 3 colors (separate not cake) and I’m going to do this one. Thank you for being so kind and patient and going slow and explaining this stitch!! I sent this to myself and saved it.. going to watch your other videos 😍😍😍
This makes me so happy to hear! I’m glad this tutorial helped you! I try and go slow for beginners and explain the stitches clearly. Hope you enjoy my other tutorials 😊🧶
@@AmandaCrochets your other videos are just as amazing!! Seriously thank you for making these slow breakdown videos, it helps me so much and I feel like I can actually make stuff for people now 😭
I just finished making this blanket for my Goddaughter who she, her husband and two boys are waiting on the arrival of a daughter in March 2022. Is their a border I can add to the blanket? Thank you for the tutorial you made it so easy to follow and love the cotton yarn. Merry Christmas.
How exciting! For a border, you can add whichever border you’d like. I decided not to add one to this blanket. However, if you wanted to add a border, I usually use a simple single crochet border. You could also try a herringbone half double crochet border. This is the border I used for my Suzette baby blanket. I hope that helps! Happy holidays!!🎄
@@AmandaCrochets thank you for all the suggestions. I didn’t have a lot of yarn left and didn’t want to make a special trip to Michaels. So I did the picot’s border you had a tutorial on it turned out nice. Giving as a Christmas present. Thank you so very very much for all your tutorials. Merry Christmas 🎄 and may the New Year see your channel grow exponentially, good health and happiness.
I’m about halfway finished with my blanket. The bottom of it where I started is stretching out. Will blocking it when I finish help with the stretching?
It’s possible, but I’m not sure. If it’s too stretched out, I don’t think blocking would help. I suggest going down a hook size for your next blanket if you notice your tension is loose.
Thanks! Yes, you can use whatever yarn you’d like. I can’t say how many chains you’ll need so you’ll have to follow the stitch multiple I mention in the video. Good luck!
Hi, I've never used cakes, your colour changes look neat, if I was to make a throw size blanket, would the colours change along the rows,( mid row) sorry I'm not making myself very clear
Hello! I understand what you mean. The best advice I can give regarding cake yarns is this: I try and match the centers of my cakes up. I also try and make sure the color changes look the same on each cake. This doesn't always happen, but if you try and get matching centers, I noticed the color changes seem to look even enough. If this doesn't happen nicely, I usually take apart the cake and grab the colors that I need. A little bit of hassle, but it's worth it to get a nice clean look to your project. I hope that makes sense :)
Beautiful how long did it take you for that size my daughter just asked me to make a afghan for my grandson's teacher she is having baby in March I'm looking for a quick afghan
It all depends on how fast you can crochet. I believe this took me about a week to a week and a half to complete. It’s a one row repeat, so it works up quickly. 😊
I am a new subscriber. I am making the tidal wave queen size blanket now and you are so right it is easy. I am going to make my daughter a blanket with this stitch soon. Thank you for making it so easy for me to make these blankets. If I want to make a twin size what should the foundation chain be? I think about 200 to 220
Thank you so much for subscribing! It means a lot to me. I’m so happy you’re enjoying the tidal wave blanket. It’s a very fun blanket! Yes, I think 200-220 chains for the grit stitch blanket would be perfect. You can always lay it over the bed and see if it’s wide enough. Good luck and happy crocheting! 😊🧶
Beautiful design! If I was to make this blanket for my great-grandmother on her 90th birthday, and I wanted to make a throw blanket for when she gets chilly while sitting outside or on the couch, how many cakes would you use? I searched how many inches a throw blanket usually would be and it says 52x60.
Thank you! For a throw size blanket I would probably get 4-5 cakes. I like buying a little more than I need just to make sure I have enough yarn for that project. Hope that helps! 😊
When changing colors at the beginning of the row, I will make the last stitch but not complete it. Then I will yarn over with the new yarn and then change 1. Hope that helps!
When I do my first chain, I’m following the exact steps but when I look at it, the bumps that should be on the back somehow also show up in the front so my stitches look great up to a certain part but then the flat part ends in the back and bumps in front! Why is that and what can I do assure my first chain stays consistent with the v’s in the front and bumps in the back
When you make your chains, it can be a little difficult to keep your chain from twisting. To keep it more consistent, I usually hold the chains right under where I’m working. I also move my hands up as I make more chains as well. Hope that answers your question 😊
I can't get over how much this stitch is like the Suzette stitch. Am I wrong just thinking the only big difference is that you count the chain one as a single crochet where you don't count the chain one as a single crochet when you do the Suzette stitch?
I'm currently doing an afghan using the Suzette stitch...its exactly the same except what you just explained about the ch 1 being used as the 1st sc. But this is definitely the Suzette. Maybe it has two names?
Yes, this is a very similar stitch to the Suzette stitch. Many crochet stitches are similar, but might just be called different names. The only difference is the beginning of each row as you mentioned.
Yes, I've come across different crochet stitches that are the same, but have different names. Another example of this is the moss stitch and granite stitch.
This is very similar to the Suzette stitch. Many times crochet stitches have different names but are the same stitch. This one has a slightly different stitch count than the Suzette stitch.
If you have a video for the baby ripple stitch, I would really love it. I have watched so many and I can't seem to get all the rows to line up. It's so frustrating. I hope you can help.
The two stitches are very similar, but the difference is how they're started. The grit stitch is a chain multiple of 2+1 and the Suzette stitch is a chain in any even number. Hope the helps a little!
To change the width of this blanket, you will need a multiple of 2+1. This means you will chain any multiple of 2 and add 1 more chain to the very end.
Sorry I am confused ... you said make a chain that is a multiple of two plus one & then add 2 more for foundation chain. Your foundation chain was 123 but how many chains are in subsequent rows 121?
I would maybe try 163 chains and measure to see if that’s the width you need. You can also change up the sizing by making a chain in a multiple of 2 and adding 1 additional chain to the very end. To make your blanket length longer, you will simple crochet more rows. Hope that helps!
@@AmandaCrochets thank you so so much !! I suscribed to your channel and look forward to checking out other videos!! You are very thorough and informative! I appreciate you taking your time to respond
I really do think that it would be a good idea for beginners to actually put the stitch marker to show them not just point to it because it is a little confusing. I am a beginner and I would have liked to have seen that. Thank you.
