Hunting and Outdoor adventure stories! This one is from "The greatest Hunting Stories Ever Told" edited by Vin T. Sparano
When was the last time a grizzly bear was seen in the state?
Grizzly bears are brown bears, and so we do not consider or believe that there are any real brown bears living in the state. ( Colorado )
We actually declared the grizzly to likely be extirpated, which means no longer living in the state, in the early 1950s.
But in 1979 there was actually an incident where an elk hunter was out on the trails out in the woods looking for his elk, and he was attacked by what was later proven to be a grizzly bear. So the last known grizzly bear in Colorado was 1979, and his remains are actually at the History Colorado museum.

I was a camp host at Big Meadows Reservoir in 2017, lots of Moose reports. Live in Blanca. I got some good story of a unrecognised discovery down this way.

Due to the Arctic wolves release in Yellowstone the wolves are spreading out like the cancer they are. Competing with the bears food supply so theyre spreading out too. New Mexico is having grizzly sightings. Had to go through Colorado to get to New Mexico. Add, theyre Montana/ Idaho grizzlies, noted for their ferocity. For the " so called" outfitter. No gun in bear country = 0 I.Q. Any fool knows you ALWAYS carry a backup handgun in bear country. Stupid hurts & complacency kills. Add, blackies have short, hook shaped claws & rounder prints. Grizzlies have long straighter claws & more squareish prints. Both are mankillers w blackies being the worst. Natural maneaters once big enough. Bears are always armed, people should be too. Just common sence.

Why do experts say there are no grizzlies in Colorado no more. Is it against bear laws for a grizzly to walk across the border from Wyoming. Heeheehee hahaha. There are grizzlies in Colorado!!!!!

This real life story takes place in 1979 and supposedly was the last grizzly in Colorado. Another good read is Old Mose, a grizz from the Hartzel Colorado area who killed man and beast. Do grizz exist now? We’ve personally seen a beautiful wolf in the St. Elmo area about 10 years ago in the late fall. We all lived in Alaska so know for a fact it was one.

I was in Alamosa ER 3 days ago, what I thought was kidney pain low left back ribs turned out was spinal issue. I have a toe bone from a Colorado Grizzly reportedly killed by Jim Bridger near Blackhawk. I've been attack by a falcon when I stopped on Silver Creek trail switchback near Mt Yale to catch my breath. Pack and leather at protected me.

I was living in Colorado when this happened. As an avid outdoor enthusiast at the age of 13, i was intrigued by the fact of having Grizzlies in Southern Colorado. I was also a fan of Jim Zumbos. While this flipped biologists heads in turmoil, forensics came out and proved that he sunk a long distant and then got charged. He had the strength to kill it by hand but ended up doing time over it. Thats what i heard.

If I remember right Ed Wiseman woke up in Federal Custody in the Hospital and local hunters passed the hat for his legal defense fund for killing a bear that Colorado game and fish didn’t exist. I believe that he was cleared of the crime of fighting off a “protected” bear. Thanks for reminding me of this Story and how it galvanized the Hunters of Colorado.

Get used to it we are going to be living closer to Big Predators now Mountain Lions in the Midwest now are spreading further east towards the Mississippi River where they might just decide to swim for the other side and now we Lions in the far east of the United States where they already have quite a few Black Bears already and I have Lions Bears and Wolves where I am almost on a weekly basis Wolves are chasing Elk calves onto my property where there is lighting, there would be more people living through Bear attacks if at the very least they carry a knife that can be deployed very quickly into the Neck areas of the Bear and just keep thrusting the blade in and while you are pulling the blade out force the blade to rotate as you withdraw the blade this will help quickly defeat the Attacks you should have a 4"-6" blade minimum, they've killed a large attacking grizzlie with a 3" blade I know of so you have to quickly while the is attacking stab stab stab until he is done into the Neck area once blood is spraying out the Bear is mostly dying and the attacking bear will usually stop attacking at that point because he beginning to get very light headed because of the blood loss they don't go very far once you have gotten to the Bears main arteries feeding its brain its a quick and humane way to stop an attack without a handgun or a short hiking stick thats available the X48 has a looks like a 7" blade on the one end with a sheath its a very lethal tool too maybe because it can keep the attacker at distance the stick is about 4' long and very well built so it could be an ideal hiking stick in bear or Lion Country probably be able to break off the attacks with one. Just don't go jogging and hiking where you know that there are large predators it could turn bad very bad if you have no way to stop the attack you will not be able to do that by just your hands. Don't become the next victim of a fatal animal attack carry the minimum tools to be able to protect you your child and pet a simple knife is effective but a walking stick, club, spear gives you many options some lethal and less than lethal and I hope even adult-ish teenagers that have to work in those places and areas could benefit from having a walking stick with them. There's getting to be more and more attacks on people that hike or jog into areas where predators are, even coyotes have killed a singer song writer that ventured alone and had no way to defend herself. Get into the habit of doing things a little differently now that more and more predators are moving into areas previously vacant of predators now you see that coyotes are killing our dogs and cats and children if we aren't careful coyotes are not pets and should be discouraged to visit areas where people hike and may have children playing you must keep close watch on children and pets when coyotes move into your backyards and start killing your pets you know not to let children play outside until they remove the problem critters, there's many ways to discourage those animals from visiting your yard you must make sure that you seal all trash and when coyotes approaches you you or your child its interest is in your pet or child so get them up off the ground out of reach of the coyotes and make sure to report it to the Authorities so they can prevent further interactions that could end in tragedy for you or your family. We must start discouraging predators and the ones that continue to interact with people must be destroyed sorry your children are worth far more than these predators and we are going to continue to have more problems with predators until we start pushing them back to where they belong. Be safe with your children and friends and family when enjoying the Beautiful outdoors bsafe and keep bad memories from happening.

@@TheMooseWhisperer-lp5qh, This wasn't a " Hunting story" it was a Stupid guide story. No backup handgun in bear country equals ZERO I.Q. Black bears are maneaters too, even more vicious & sneaky that a grizzly is. Add, Grizzlies have been sighted in Colorado for the last 10 years. Any real guide would know that. No pity for stupid. He had it coming. Add, its easy to tell black prints from grizzly prints. In todays information age theres no excuse for not knowing that. Mountain Lions too & now Arctic wolves have been released in Colorado. Guess the liberal bunnyhugger fools didnt learn anything from the Yellowstone disaster.
