This is one of the most overlooked bands of our generation. It's our pink floyd, beach boys, whatever else you want to compare them to all rolled into one and everyone glosses over them.
+austin78993 A lot of people don't get Pink Floyd either. If Grizzly Bear is just on in the background, I don't appreciate it at all. I have to stop everything and let hem have my full attention. I have to give them that moment of my life. Then it's beautiful beyond words. Most people don't give any music their full attention. Only true music lovers do that. That's why we aren't such fans of mainstream pop. That stuff plays better in the background of your attention. If you listen too close, it's exposed in all it's shallow glory.
They've been my favorite band for the past four or five years and I rarely meet people who like them as much as I do. Not only that but dude how can a bad be so versatile? They go from experimental folk-rock on Yellow House to I-don't-even-know-how-to-describe with Veckatimest (baroque indie pop?) to Shields which I just think of as a rock album (the "just" meaning insanely well produced and sounding, emotionally resonant and yet accessible). I wonder what this year's album will sound like. I'm eagerly waiting and believe it or not haven't seem them live yet, so now is my chance.
They really aren't glossed over or ignored, it's just that there is no longer a music industry today so bands aren't promoted as much as they to be in the past where record companies use to spend millions and recoup it all when fans went out and bought the records. If Grizzly bear existed back in the 1970s or 1980s they probably would have been selling a couple million records which would have been a sound investment for record companies, but today, no way. Nobody buys records anymore and RU-vid is the biggest reason for that. In the past people would buy records at record stores to hear songs they love, today they just go to RU-vid and it costs them nothing, and what gets me is RU-vid is owned by Google which is a multi-billion dollar company and NOBODY sues them for copyright infringement?? WTF? The profits have literally shifted from the bands who actually make the music to f*ckin' Google who make billions in ad revenue. Like this for example, WTF is their album "Painted ruins" doing on RU-vid for anyone to download for free? Why is Grizzly bear allowing Google to profit from a record THEY made?.............ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GI1Mj5O5OjU.html
I guess "Two Weeks" kinda took off, people knew the song from ads but not the band. Unfortunate really. One of the best bands ever yet most people won't know.
@@anthonycleary4676 for sure. I’ll never forget hearing “yellow house” when it came out. Such a talented group of guys. Honestly I thought they were set after “two weeks” came out.🤷🏻♂️ tough time to be a unique and creative artist. (I would’ve died a happy man just getting signed to warp records honestly😂🤷🏻♂️).
Holy crap this nostalgia is crazy! I was in high school when my friend Michael recommended this song to me. I had it on repeat while studying math homework for a year and haven’t heard it since. Crazy more than a decade has passed.
It's real cool to see Rossen visually engaging the chord changes. It's as if he's still coming to grips with the complex fingerings and changes he put into the song. Very copacetic.
this bass player is really incredible, what a good nice playing (a bit like paul Mccartney sgt pepper's era bass playing) and he reaches the perfect vocal harmony while playing.. oh and all of the members of this band are eaqually incredible.. this is a GREAT band.
For these 4 to have found each other amazes me. The talent is beyond beautiful. Beach Boy harmonies come to mind as it should. Never heard a band so clean live. What an experience
Haha, I'm so glad they showed the drummer. They had me worried. It's like, he's there making incredible rhythmic work, and doesn't get any credit. Everyone in this band is amazing.
Wow, this is incredible. This is among the best songs I've ever heard. And performed so well. When the background voices came in they sounded so perfect I thought they had to have been recorded and played back as a sample.
Can't believe this was 10 years ago... I've followed them for so long and their sound has changed so much over the years. I miss this era of the band, but I can't discredit what they've done lately at all. Haha I just love Daniel's influence on the band. His vibe, music, and creativity have had a major influence on me.
i think that the most powerful thing of this band is the combination of voices. In all the songs I heard of grizzly bear (just a few I'm still a n0ob) the voice is what makes the most of the songs.
Theres a revolution! Recently some excellent music has been coming out in all styles. Grizzly Bear, Fleet Foxes, and others. Not even to stop there, hip hop has been progressing too with DOOM, Danger Mouse, etc. Just because the people at your school or wherever only listen to whats forced down their throats and they strangely choose to die by it doesn't mean music out there is bad. We're living in a great time!
The best thing about this band for me is that they all look so casual... they look like someone you could meet walking down the street.. just 4 fairly ordinary men playing music
This song is absolutely amazing. The arrangement of the vocals is splendid, and every time I listen to the song, the subtleties of the instrumentation amaze me more. I worry that this band may not produce another masterpiece song as this. Love it while it lasts!!!
Besides the bridge this sounds so remarkably like the recorded version. I really hope they make a new album. So talented and in tune with one another it seems.
I'm with you on this. It is beyond me why people have to start comparing artists (in a sense of "better" or "worse") with one another in the first place. Also some people don't realise it's been quite some time since quality music was generally widely appreciated.
song is sick... sound takes you back to the 60's when people actually wrote songs and truly played them!! Authentic sound, there actually is depth and harmonies to the sound unlike 99% of the crap they call music today...
