The fence is maddening. I leave the bolts in the fence, tightened down.. Alignment in reinstalling still is not straightforward, but easier. Never had an issue with hitting the tab using the planer. I don't often do long boards, but haven't had a problem when I do. For my needs, it's great.

Those gripes would annoy me, too, I'm not seeing a good alternative to purchase, though. I have limited space to work with. Jet makes a 10" combo unit, but I don't think it has the helical cutting head.

I'm toying with designing a new fence bracket and sanding off the area where the boards get caught going through the jointer. Like you said, there are almost no competitors at this price point which is sad.

I NEVER remove my fence - I just push it toward the jointer infeed side and tilt it. That’s worked pretty good for me. Ultimately, while it’s good for the price, I would prefer to sell mine and get a floor unit.

Thank you for this video. I was considering one of these for the space savings, but I would hate that fence, and the wood getting caught on the knob when planing... I am going to have to pass.
