They were quite heavy and the boards allowed me to safely assemble by myself. I have several other videos about small mods for this saw if you plan on buying one. Thanks for watching my video.
Grizzly should pay you for this video. This is the best assembly video I've seen. Well done. I was on the fence, but now I think I'm going to purchase the 3hp model. Thanks for the video.
So far the saw has been great. The only issue is the small tube on the blade shroud for sawdust removal constantly plugs and it is a pain to clear. In the future I plan on running a larger separate hose to eliminate the issue. On the other hand I would not buy another of their 15 inch planers. Thanks for watching.
I just finished the assembly of my Grizzly as well. Wish I had watched this video first. It would have made mounding the wings a little easier! Like your method of using the wood pieces to hold them in place. I was really pleased with how it went together. Works great!
They are good saws for the price. I have only had emails from 2 that got bad machined castings and couldn't be aligned accurately. Take the time to set it upright and ensure there are no machining problems. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Just finished unboxing this saw in my shop. What a great video. The clamps and wood for supporting the table sides was simple and awesome. I'll let you know how it works out!
Nice video! Noticed you had the Crocs in 2-wheel drive. That was comforting. Made me think setting up mine wouldn’t be too strenuous. I love this table saw!
A very helpful video - thanks! I've already assembled my saw (I only have a compact router at this time, do didn't install a router yet) and had my son help with the extension tables. Didn't think of the boards clamped to the top for doing it myself - great idea! I've never had a table saw before, so I have no experience to rely on; it seemed to me that there's a fair amount of 'slop' in sliding the fence across the tube (between the angle iron on the fence and the front rail). I've used a few table saws during a 6 day woodworking course I took in April 2021 and I don't remember that type of movement when moving the fence. You didn't mention it when you attached your fence, so maybe that's the way it's supposed to be? Also the 'clamp' to secure the fence seems very tight - when I force it down, the far end of the fence raises up in the air (unless I use another hand to hold it down). Again, that seems unusual based on my experience with other table saws. Would appreciate your comment. I've requested help from Grizzly tech support (sent a few videos) and am waiting for a reply. They've been very responsive in the past, but I've been waiting 1-1/2 days on these questions. Will need to follow up. I am using my garage as a workshop, but am putting all the larger equipment on mobile bases to move them out of the way so our cars can get in. I put a mobile extension under the legs and it attaches to the saw's mobile base (had to cut down the two extension brackets and the extension bar, but it works well). Thanks again!
There are just a couple nylon guides on mine to take up the slop. Don't know if they are still the same but the instructions showed everything. The router table is useless. I fitted a compact router in the hole. Thanks for watching.
Considering this saw thanks to your excellent video I will have a leg up with assembly ...I will see if I can get some off of the price as I can tell them to keep the directions ...
It's been a good saw with no issues so far. If I did it again I would probably go for a SawStop for the extra safety features. There's not much of a price difference nowadays. I love that amana 40 tooth combination blade that I made a video about. Thanks for watching.
Mine has been a great saw so far. Very smooth and powerful. Hope you like your new saw. MLCS sells a nice magnetic cover that fits the top that I have been using to protect the top when not being used . Thanks for watching.
Great video, well done. Like the way you managed to put it together bys yourself with no help for the heavy parts. I wiill use your trics. I have the same saw which is still in its box. I would be curious to know if you have used the router extension table for routing.
No, I find that feature to be basically useless. I don't like how the router mounts or the insert fit. It has been a great machine so far. Thanks for watching.
Thank you. Very helpful video. Grizzly has definitely improved the saw over the old 1023 ZX model that I have. I wonder how you feel about the saw after 2 years?
I love it. Has been a very accurate smooth running saw. Nothing slows down the 5 hp. The Amana 40 tooth Prestige blade really works good with the saw. Thanks for watching.
They both cut wood good but this one is no where near as safe. I would have bought the sawstop if I had more money to spend at the time. Thanks for watching.
Interesting video, were the instructions clear? Looking forward to seeing some sawdust and an update down the road after you've put the saw through the paces. Thanks for sharing.
the instructions were good. The quality if the saw is excelent. Everything was adjusted properly at the factory so It was a easy job. I have a bedroom set and dining room table with chairs lined up for it so It will get a good workout. Thanks for watching my videos.
Still going strong one of the better Grizzly tools I purchased. Pulls out from the top. Remove the blade insert, flip the cam lock and I put a Phillips screwdriver through the hole to pull it out easily. Dust collection is the only problem. Thanks for watching
Dust collection problem from the top or bottom?. I just watched your video on a zero clearance insert and you mentioned that helped. I'm considering the Harvey 3 hp with 36" rails. Your videos are informative and enjoyable to watch.
All over. The biggest problem is the blade shroud hose plugs and packs full easily. Then the shield holds the dust against the blade throwing it out the top. Also make a cover for the front tilt opening so dust doesn't blow out it. Should really have a hose on the top guard also. The 5hp with an Amana 40 tooth .135 kerf blade is accurate and unstoppable I have found. I have no idea if the 3 hp construction is the same or different.
Hi, great video. I was wondering if the LEFT side Wing came with the unit or did you have to purchase it separately? I am confused about the 8" left cutting capacity. Thank you
Everything you see comes with this model. You can slide the fence to the left of the blade and cut 8 inches. There are several different models of this saw with different tables and fence rails. Thanks for watching.
Great video, it was very informative! I just ordered this saw and need to figure out my wiring issue. The 6ft chord isn't long enough to reach my outlet. Go figure HAHA. Is there a male and female end to the chord that came with the saw? In other terms, can I rewire a chord long enough for my needs? Or will I have to wire a junction box to the table saw and run the chord from the box to my desired need?
I just went to Home Depot and bought matching connectors and wire to make my own extension cord. Would be best to have the outlet moved if you can. Thanks for watching.
I love this saw. Once I made a zero clearance insert, the dust collection is great. It is necessary to keep blade shroud dust shoot from getting clogged. Did you clean the gears that raise and tilt the blade?
I made zero clearance overlays and the small hose to the shroud still gets plugged with sawdust and has to be cleaned out. I am going to 3d print a new adapter to allow me to run a seperate 2 1/2" hose to the blade and open up the 4 inch hose opening in the cabinet for better flow. You have to blow the dust off everything in there every once in a while. It is a great saw that will rip through anything the blade can handle without slowing. Thanks for watching
Still have it and it's a great saw for the price. The router table is useless for a router but a great extension for the top. If I replaced it I would definitely go Sawstop for the extra safety now that their prices have come down to be fairly close. One of the few tools Grizzly got right. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the excellent videos. I have pretty much decided on the same saw but I'm concerned with the router table extension being just a hole. It appears there is no way to adjust the height of the router and it doesn't have a way to turn the router on/off. Please tell me I'm wrong.
It just has some clamps to mount a router to the underside of the extension. It has no electronics to power the router. I have not used it with a router yet, but do not see it as a replacement for a router table because the inserts sit below the top surface slightly. I just use it for extra work surface.
The dust shroud does not have enough air flow through the small hose that plugs up quite often. Sometimes I feel it is more of a problem then solution for handling sawdust on this machine. Thanks for watching.
Wd40 will remove protective coatings from the factory. It all depends what your trying to remove. A couple coats of good paste wax with 0000 steel wool will remove most build ups. Thanks for watching.
I tried a router but didn't like the mounting or insert rings plus it was in the way for opening the door to clear the blade shroud dust hose so I removed it. Would have been nice if it used a standard insert plate that dropped in from the top that didn't lower the router an extra 3/4". I have been thinking about machining the opening large enough to drop a trim router in from the top with a custom plastic base. Thanks for watching .
I am a guitar builder and am looking for the right table saw to invest in. I am wondering, does this grizzly give you very accurate cuts in terms of 90 degrees or another angle you set it at? Is the table dead flat around the blade, and does the throat plate carry through the same flatness?
Mine gives accurate cuts and has a good flat top. The insert is adjustable but you would have to replace it with zero clearance ones for your type of work anyway. From subscriber feedback each unit will vary and have different runout or other issues so go through it good and check everything if you buy one. For the price point it is a great saw when properly tuned. For setting angle cuts I use a digital angle gauge that is very accurate. Saw dust collection is about the only issue that my saw has. The small tube to the blade shroud plugs and has to be cleaned out often. I would buy it again. Thanks for watching.
Hello, I was wondering what size breaker did you use 20amp or 30amp . Do you still like the saw and would you recommend it. Very nice video by the way . ATB, Jeff
I used a 30 amp because under load the saw can draw 23 amps. I love the saw, the blade that came with it was not that great so I updated it to a Freud Premium Fusion 50 tooth and the cuts are very smooth. It cuts 2" ash like butter without slowing down. About the only things I have found so far is it needs some kind of sawdust collection hose on the blade guard to catch the top sawdust, but that is a issue that you run into with any saw, and it is a little akward to remove the riving knife. Thanks for watching my video.
I’ve had this saw, minus the riving knife as it wasn’t included, for almost 18 years. It’s been a great saw. I hooked mine up 220 volt. That way I could use 12ga wire and a 2 pole 20 amp breaker. I think it draws 16 amps under load. I also have the 7’ rails and built a router table into the end of the rails. Great setup
I got this same saw. does anyone have trouble with the fence? each time I lock it in place the end part goes to the left. I have tried to adjust it but that just causes the fence to be harder to move.
No problems at all with mine. I followed the setup instructions and it is still perfect a couple years later. Contact Grizzly and if you are lucky someone can help you. Thanks for watching.
Thank you! I am considering ordering this exact saw in July. Are you glad you got the router table option with this saw? Do you find it useful as owning a dedicated router table? Are their attachments for the router table which make it very useful?
I have not used the router table. I don't like how the router mounts, or how the inserts fit. I feel that it is worth having for the extra nice flat table space. I will stick with my stand alone router table that has a split fence and better fitting inserts. I just really purchased this model for the 5 HP motor and feel it is worth having the extra horse power. So far I am very happy with the saw. Watch for a sale as you can usually save a couple hundred dollars.
Thank you! I did call Grizzly and they suggested instead of getting the 1023RL without the router table extension. Their recommendation was to get a shaper tool for fine profile work being by the time you get a quality table, all the accessories, and a powerful router you can get a shaper for about the same or less money.
The 1023RL is only a 3 horsepower saw. If you will not be cutting a lot of thick stock it should be fine. I like my 5 HP for the way I use it. I think router cutters are easier to find in the profiles I use and cost less then shaper cutters. Small shapers usually come with router bit spindles, but do not turn fast enough to get a great cut. Plus you can get a second base and use a router for large projects that can not be lifted. Cheep small spindle shapers can not handle very large bits either. I think a good router table is better then a shaper unless you get into a 1" spindle and do a lot of large profiles.
I like it so far the only cons are the sawdust shroud around the blade having a small hose that plugs and I don't like the router table mounting and insert rings. I would buy it again.
I had a message from a subscriber that got one with a improperly machined casting that would not allow it to be set up properly and they shipped him a new machine that was good. So check it good when you receive it if you buy one. His was the 3hp one.
That's a generous offer but something like that is just too big for my little shop. I plan on investing in a track saw in the future that takes up very little space to store and is easy to move to the materials. Good luck marketing it in the future it's a great idea for a small sawmill that can't afford a straight line RIP saw. Thanks for watching.
