Been a follower for years but i was off for some time due to a major illness. Recovery from the operation has been smooth but slow. I am extremely happy of how your shop now than it used to be. I have the transformation and the hassles of relocation and building up again the shop from ground up. A 20 inch Grizzly thicknesser with helical head has been ordered and just waiting for it at my doorstep. I know there are a lot already about unboxing and setting up videos but i was sure you have plenty more to share and so i watched the whole video. God bless and be safe always on the craft!

Thanks for sharing with us this latest major project of yours, of the jointer and planer. Really interesting the research that you carried out beforehand, as to the history of jointers. Inevitably these things have a far more fascinating history than we'd imagine. No doubt jointers contributed to the second Industrial Revolution, which became prominent in the 1870s, so if the historical side interests you, don't forget to look at that aspect of the origins of mechanisation in shops too. You're obviously so pleased to get this latest edition to your shop - and we're all so pleased for you too ! A great idea of yours to share your experiences of your mechanised shop with similar shops. As always, your video production - the story - is so good - so seamless ! You've included all of the information that we need to know about why your ordered it, how it was installed, and your first impressions of using it. So a great video that has provided us with knowledge about these machines and kept us up to date about what you have been up to. Thank you !

I've had this particular jointer on my Grizzly wish list for a while now. I may actually buy it at some point.

Mmmm, jointer! Ive got a single car garage myself (no 220v) and am on the hunt for a jointer to flatten all of my rough cut lumber. My main issue is space, but my last benchtop jointer....well....lets just say it left me needing something with a bit more capability. If im honest im terrified of setting up a jointer after struggling to get the budget benchtop jointer set up (no matter what, it would not get true flat cuts). Your video really put my mind at ease as far as set up goes! Enjoy the new tool!!!

I just bumped into your channel while looking for G0856 reviews. You have an impressive collection of vids! I have two questions about this one: (1) how well does the mobile base work? i.e. how easy is it to move the jointer from one place to another? (2) Do you have a video about the router fence setup you have on your SawStop router table? I'm trying to decide with whether or not to keep my very nice by space consuming router table, or to consolidate to the SS one. Space is challenging for me, but I can crowd tools together. Thank you.

Well I always call them jointers and the thicknesser I call a planer thicknesser, no confusion here in UK.

I have a smaller grizzly jointer and I learned that if you create plans for a project, remember the dimensions will change after you take off wood with the jointer.

Jointer (slang term Buzzer) makes a big difference to any shop, coupled with thicknesser it really changes the ease of which you can produce things. Next item wide belt/drum sander?

How about changing the names to Top-planer and Bottom-planer. OR the Fingerslasher and Sniper

Great tool it seems i ave being saving up to buy thickessor but god its being 6 years saving and i have to go 6 move before i can buy one most be great to be able get 2 just be carefull using the jointer i get one of my fingers tios cut clean off so be very carefull

So the purpose of a jointer as to make adjacent faces on a piece of wood perfectly flat and square to each other. It does not make opposite faces parallel to each other. This is where the thicknesser comes in. Put one of the faces that you just flattened down on the thicknesser away from the blade and feed it through. You now have three faces flat and square and two that are parallel to each other. Repeat in the thicknesses with the face that is left. You should then be left with a perfectly flat square and parallel piece of wood. 😉😀👍

Jointer is such a silly name. Obviously both are planers, one a flatness planer and the other a thickness planer. What does jointer even mean? To joint something? Sounds like a automated marijuana machine.
