LOL!!! The flies were terrible and the bones were nasty too. I went through so many pairs of gloves because I didn't want to touch my camera or my bow after touching the bones. :)

You can't go wrong with the IWs. I'm very impressed with them and that's what I'm sticking with going forward. I've got some additional vids on them, just too busy with other stuff to finalize them right now. Soon though.

@@strixoutdoors have you tried any of the Bishop heads?

@@richardbrown4953 , I have not. I talked to them about their heads and their broadheads look really tough but they are just so darn expensive. These are expensive enough as it is.

I'm in the process of making some heavier arrows and thinking about using their 200gr single bevel

Ah man... that's a tough call because I don't feel that I've killed enough critters to make that determination just yet. From the penetration testing I've done so far, the Grizz and the IronWill both seem to do well and I feel like the IronWills are a more durable head because of the material. The IronWills are a bit more of a chore to sharpen in some respects. Blood trail, they are all going to be about the same and shot placement will make the biggest difference on that. The IronWills do have 2 bleeder vanes so that might give you a very slightly better blood trail but again shot placement is 99% of the story with that IMO. If you read the reports from Dr. Ashby, and I highly recommend you read these if you're after big game, (www.ashbybowhunting.org/ashby-reports). The biggest difference in single bevel and double bevel is supposed to be their ability to break heavy bone. You need the correct arrow setup to do this anyway but all other things being equal the single bevel should perform better. The elk scapula that I tested on wasn't stout enough to show that difference and to be honest, the IronWill arrow was deeper into the target than the Grizz arrow was but lots of other factors there also of course. According to Ashby; structural integrity of your arrow setup and arrow flight are #1 and #2 top factors in penetration. The broadhead edge type (single or double) is factor #10 (ranked in that order). This is out of 12 factors that affect penetration. So, if you don't have all of those other factors correct to maximize penetration first then the broadhead edge doesn't matter.

Thanks! I have the Bowtech Reign 6 (comfort setting) maxed out and I'm at about 73-74#s. 28.5" draw length. I haven't put it on a draw scale in a while.

On my ethics I am getting 180gr insert/outsert that includes the sleeve.

@@lukewagley5842 I am not at the 600+ gr yet. Right know I am using the Sirius Orion’s .166 diameter 300 spine. With a 180gr in/outsert and a 125gr head. TAW is around 575gn with about a 20% FOC. I am also trying the Victory VAP SS. Still using the ethics stainless steel in/outserts cut down to 60gr plus the sleeve gets me another 70gr total 130gr there. Head is 125 gr (actual weight is 130gr) total wait came out to 574gr with 20.68% FOC. I am still learning and trying this out.

I hear ya. 445 is pretty good weight. I 100% believe my heavier arrow setup allowed me to drop my last archery whitetailed deer (ducked the arrow and the arrow went straight through the spine) and last elk (heavy quarter away shot) where my previous arrow setup may have not quite done the job as well. I've also done some testing on some heavier elk bones that I need to make the time to edit and share with you guys so stay tuned for that. Thank you for the comment. @@strixoutdoors 37 yards with a 467 grain arrow with a rage trypan completely rolled my huge doe last year and severed the spine in 2 parts. Super heavy arrows are overrated imo also but If you choose that route just stick to a closer yardage and you’ll be good. I am picking up some iron wills to shoot this year along with my tooth of the arrow fixed blades to see which takes the cake. Good luck

I have a 28.5" draw and I'm cutting the arrows from the back end which would make them stiffer. I used the Archers Advantage program and also chatted with Grizz Stick about it. But, sometimes it does feel like they might be on the light side. They are quite fickle to tune.

Way underspined unless they run off weird number but at 28.5” and 70lbs which is more like 73.7 and 60 insert and 125 point I’m a 300 spine if I added more weight like 200 I would need to be a 250 victory has a good calculator for it I don’t like how it takes the bows ibo speed but I was also underspined with some vap tkos and after switching to a 300 spine it’s much easier to tune

Yup. I agree with you. I do want to do that testing. I have a set of IronWill Single Bevels now as well that I would like to compare to the Alaskan200

@@-lovefromnh, no I haven't done it yet. I need to find some good beef bones to test at least until elk season... hopefully I'll have elk bones to test on after that. Currently, I have full confidence in the IronWills. They are just expensive. The other part of that is using a sufficiently heavy arrow along with the heads will also be a big factor according to Ashby's study/reports.

I just posted a video using beef scapula, not using a heavy setup like this, but does show a couple arrows hitting the knuckle.

I'm not sure I understood your question fully. I actually did some testing recently on the IW single vs double bevels on an elk humerus bone. Video to follow in the next couple of months I hope... I'm super behind. Spoiler: the IW's are awesome

@@strixoutdoors I'm just saying that cuz it looked like the double bevel with bleeders punched a nice hole through the bone and I was wondering if that was because of the bleeders, it'd be nice to see if a single bevel with bleeders would not only split the bone but punch a nice hole through the bone as well

I think they are both accurate out to 60. I feel like it's a bit harder to tune the Alaskans. IronWill is coming out with a single bevel head very soon. Also something to consider.

The IronWills are more expensive. Grizz stick doesn't make the Alaskan 200s anymore for some reason. The IronWills are tougher. If I was only going to buy 1 I would go with the IronWills

Makes sense. The Ashby head has a better mechanical advantage with the blade angle also. My buddy that shoots the Ashby 315 feels the same way. I don't trust the point on the Ashby as much. Seems like it would be easier for it to break/bend than the top on the Alaskan.

Out of the too what broadhead would you guys recommend for whitetails within 30 35 yards?

@@tylerharlow1226I'd use the Ashby 315 for anything within 50 yards. However, you might need to run a lighter set up if these bucks jump the string too often.

@@strixoutdoors that is true. 2 years ago during my Ontario moose hunt, the Ashby 315 I was using (which had been through 4 or 5 white tails) finally broke apart after breaking through both scapula. Which by my standards are more than good enough, considering most Broadheads can't even punch through moose shoulder

@@Fred-eg9sx Yes! That's impressive! What was your total arrow weight for that moose hunt? Arrow speed?

I agree 30yrds would be more realistic but the problem is that you introduce more human error in shot placement with distance and for this test I wanted to be as consistent as I could with each shot. I only had this set of bones to test so if I made a bad shot it could ruin the whole test. It's a pretty minimal decrease in speed between this and 30yrds.

I agree with that you're saying; just making due with what I can get my hands on to give an indication. I've done some further testing recently with the IW single and double bevels. I hope to post soon just very behind on videos due to other priorities.
