I was a K-8 music teacher in several provinces in this great country Canada and I tried to instill in my students that "Good, Bad or Ugly the words and deeds you do each day WILL affect someone in ways you may never know; so please choose the good and do good. Be the good because you may be the only good that person experiences that day. That is your power so use it wisely and with care!"

I’m appalled that 49 people clicked Don’t Like!! WTF!! Why? It amazes me that people are so critical others. Must be nice to live your perfect world! ARGH! these ladies rock, they have the platform to be able to express what MOST of us feel and think. I love watching whenever I can, I always laugh and Tracie, I cried with you!! Thank you for being CANADIAN and showing our true colours, no prejudice here. Love, love, love you guys! ❤️

OMG! I wore my first Beautifully Basic Tee to work today and I am knitting my second as I watch this episode. I love Nomadic Knits. Met Becky by chance at a Brew Pub in Vermont while she was working on the Vermont issue. I was on vacation and couldn’t resist introducing myself to Becky when I saw her knitting at the Pub. I had never heard of Nomadic knits but, after meeting Becky and seeing her sample books, I bought all back issues and subscribed. Love their patterns! Was so excited when I found your patterns included. So happy you are promoting Nomadic Knits! It’s such a quality product and I am looking forward to my next issue!

Yes! Thank you for your thoughtful words. Growing up in Detroit in the late 60’s, all of my friends were of every color. It wasn’t until the 68 riot that forced my parents to move us out of Detroit. Makes my heart heavy to think that we’ve hardly come forward in 50 years! How many more lives will it take to change us. All lives matter regardless of color of skin. Keep up the conversation ladies! The change happens one person at a time. If not us, then who? Thank you for keeping this in the forefront.

Traci - I'm so with you on this one. My heart hurts. I can't imagine. I just keep looking at my 6'0" tall son with the linebacker build and a natural 'fro, and I KNOW that if he was several shades darker he would be at risk every time he left the house. There are so many parents who have to TRAIN their children to navigate systemic racism and de-escalate law enforcement so they don't DIE. This makes me RAGE. There are enough dangers present that our children must face without the GOVERNMENT being part of the problem. I'm so, so heartbroken and angry. I needed to see your shared grief and I also needed the simple joy to be found in shared creating. I would also like to see our hard-working, dedicated law enforcement personnel free of the sociopathic cancer embedded in their organizations. One of my high school friends died in the line of duty, he truly lived "Protect and Serve". There are so many more of these officers, than these murderous monsters and their accomplices. The every day heroes should NOT have to work AROUND these monsters. ARRRG.

I'm watching this on the 20th of June because I've been working a lot so I need to catch up on your podcasts. I just want to say how much I appreciate you and how much it makes me feel more hopeful and safer knowing that the knitting community is authentically diverse and you two can be the voice of all of us white folks who are broken-hearted about how long this brutality has gone on, and how much we all need to step up and do to be proper allies to all these wonderful people in our community who suffer every single day.

I love that you are mentioning buying more commercial yarns for people on a budget. This has been a pet peeve of mine, seeing as some podcasters are so totally snobbish about the yarn they use. I even heard one of them here in Quebec say with a superior air that she only bought luxury yarn and would never knit anything with that "scrap" from Michaels or such other stores! Duh! I was so angry that I stopped watching them and unsubscribed immediately. If buying cheaper yarn is the only way one can afford to knit, there's nothing wrong with that! And we all know that activities like knitting can be therapeutic, even essential for some people's mental health. So again, thank you ladies!
@abbycat886
@abbycat886 4 года назад
I agree with you , if we want to have a truly inclusive knitting community we have to take in consideration that not every one can afford luxury yarns and no one should be shamed or judged for buying cheaper yarns.

Thank you both for your heartfelt message regarding George Floyd at the beginning of your podcast. I've written (email) the Minneapolis Chief of Police and Police Administration, the Mayor of Minneapolis, and the Governor and Lt. Governor of Minnesota asking that they do everything within the powers of their respective offices to ensure that the investigation proceeds and the now-fired officers are held fully criminally accountable for what they've done. It feels like such a small, tiny thing...but it's a start, and we should all start in some way, in whatever way we can, to express our outrage. Peace to you both, and thanks for many hours of learning and laughing.

Thank you, Jodie and Tracie, for this great podcast. For your recognizing the tragedies of the week, and for knowing that we also so badly need to join together to share in our craft to survive. I am ordering yarns from yarn shops, and I love what Anzula Yarns and a few others are doing to support the LYS. It's so important to try to keep them going. Sobbing along with you Traci, again. This is one of my favorite episodes. (Before the text discussion 😮😊). The commercial of George Floyd’s “sister” makes me hurt, and sob too. We cannot sit back in our pain not thinking about it happening again, as we may have done after the other ruthless murders with more names we must remember and use as fuel to make change happen! Breonna Taylor, Trayvon Martin, Tamir Hill, Ahmad Arbery, and on and on! ❤ you guys!

Thanks foe endorsing the idea that there is a yarn for everyone. I buy Plymouth yarns at my LYS...no hand dyed yarns are in my budget, and I buy lots of Lion Brand at Joann’s.. Red Heart also has some pretty nice yarns... believe it or not😊. I ctpfochdt and knit lots of preemie/Angel blankets...and teeny weeny hats, so I need yarn thst can go into the washer and dryer over and over. I like to use Lion Brand’s Shawl in a Ball, fir prayer shawls. It’s beautiful, but does not require special care... I’m going to finish one this weekend.. It’s for my friend, who recently lost her adult daughter . Enjoyed today’s podcast. Oh.. Marly Bird’s yarn is somewhere between six and ten dollars here.. the Cincinnati area. I’ve used it, and it’s nice. I am nit a member if Blueprint, but I really don’t understand . There must be a story behind the story, because there’s no way they can’t make money right now. Everybody has turned to the internet for just about everything.

TheCraftyVegan I didn’t receive email . I received email verifying a recent purchase , and one responding to my “never receiving forever codes “ 6 months post resubscribing . The customer help is always excellent . I don’t think they even knew they’d be losing jobs shortly . I was told to use my points erode August 2020, since they were not offering them after that. Reason ? Not many ppl used them ??? That may be bc we never recvd the codes . They changed to auto delivery to your Bluprint inbox ... a bit late. I’ve been a member from Craftsy days and have 156 classes . I’m very concerned what will be done to allow us to download . Couldn’t be at a worse time ? There’s a group for professional crafters, called Craft Alliance . Any one can join them . They always know what’s happening with Bluprint . A great source for anyone interested in the Craft community . Apparently a group called Pineapple .... bought the Bluprint content .. I agree , losing the Craftsy classes would be awful .The investment , and even worse the fantastic deep dive classes from the best of the best are irreplaceable

Tonight I was able to get them both for one price! So I am filled with Gratitude! I was very touched by your tears Tracie. I feel helpless myself to effect the changes needed. But I did talk with my 12 year old grandson about racism related to the murder and touched on our own mixed Native American heritage and the prejudice that often comes with that. I truly think the next generation could be our salvation, because online, color isn't as obvious or important to them.

I wrote this before I had a chance to check in with the news and saw the protests. To all of you that had a chance to protest and still are protesting, please be safe. I removed my other comments with respect.

Don't forget Briggs & Little from New Brunswick! It's the most affordable pure wool in all weights and in tons of colours you can find. 😊

If you want to learn how to knit a sock, on Marly Bird's youtube channel she has a 6 part video series, and a free pattern with red heart. The pattern is worsted weight, designed for her 100% super-wash merino yarn with red heart (chic sheep). It's how I learned how to knit my first pair of socks and I found it very informative. Also her chic sheep yarn is a more affordable 100% wool yarn and it is fantastic.
