Another lovely visit to South Dakota from the Grocery Girls. You both make the cold, wet, windy evening nice to stay in and watch. I enjoyed every single minute, the chatter, the patterns, the yarn, the cross stitch, the books; more things than I can get done or possibly buy! Thank you for the lift you provide in my life. 🤗😘💛. You are the best!
Great podcast again ladies. Jodi - I found the podcast where you talked about the shawl - Episode 61 - 19:18. It's the Slow curves shawl by Joji Locatelli with modifications. I'm going to buy it right now lol.
I was a cross stitcher before I learned to knit! You're doing well. Yes, ripping stuff out is still called frogging. I highly recommend an Ott-Lite or something similar to see your stitching. Also, another thing that I like to do is making a working copy and using highlighters to mark off the stitches I've done. (This is legal as long as you retain your original copy, and destroy the working copy when done.) There are also apps now that accomplish the same thing, but when I was stitching there weren't any of those yet. As far as using the sparkly threads, one thing you can do is first make all your crosses with the normal floss first, then if you want to add some sparkly, go back and use one strand of the sparkly stuff on top of the stitches you've already done, but only do the first leg of the cross. This way you add sparkle, it doesn't completely cover up the color underneath, and it's slightly easier to work with because you're only using one strand by itself.
I was so happy to see your cross stitch! I love cross stitch. I’ve been cross stitching for 25 years. Ripping back is referred to as “frogging”. Be prepared to get addicted!
Thanks so much for the shoutout ladies!! ❤️❤️❤️ We love watching your podcast too, and test knitting for Jodi was an absolute pleasure! Hope you both have a wonderful weekend and Happy Knitting! 😀🧶
Love, love the hats!!!! It’s reminding me of the love note sweater!!! I can see me now. Love note sweater with matching grocery girls hat, mitts and socks!!! Way to cute. Love your color shawl. It reminds me of color affection. Color affection doesn’t have the eyelets. I have knit two of the color affection
My first podcast with you ladies and love it. Thank you! I just did one of the hatvent hats for Christmas 2021 ornaments for our grown children and it will be a new family tradition that I plan to make them a different one every year. I also made one for their elf on the shelf. Love them! I love all your colors and Pom poms💜so fun. They loved them even our son which was such a compliment. Mostly because he doesn’t like a lot of things.
I have been watching Grocery Girls from the 1st episode. I'm currently on episode 73. I just wanted to say thank you SO much for talking about perimenopause/menopause! I'm the same age as you and I'm totally relating to everything you're talking about. I knit and crochet, which really helps me get through the rough times. You guys so rock!🤗💕
I had a LED magnifying lamp sitting on my sewing table (not plugged in) and I put some fabric that I had just bought on the sewing table and went upstairs. An hour later I could smell smoke and went downstairs 😱. The sun shining through the window and through the magnifying glass onto the fabric had set fire to the fabric, 5 minutes later coming downstairs would have been too late. It’s only Spring here in Australia, and I live in a cooler state ( Victoria) but that sun is strong. I thought that type of thing happening was a bit of a myth, I stand corrected. We do have smoke detectors fitted but they hadn’t gone off yet. Will be getting them checked
For the cross stitch patterns just make copies but enlarge it. You pick any colors you like. Try wool appliqué. Another rabbit hole I’m now down. It’s so addicting. Hope you have at least a #24 or #26 Tapestry needle. Have fun!! If you can find Anchor floss it comes on a spool which is easier.
Tracie, I just started test knitting (3), so I'm just becoming aware of how hard designers work on patterns and behind the scenes work that goes on. With that said 😆 have you considered releasing your new (mohair) hat as a free pattern, just asking 🤔 😉 love you both ❤
LOVE sharing the range of crafty with Max’s incredible designs and Christmas ornaments for quilting/cross stitch - you’re right. It’s a crafty crossover world and many of us dabble in quite a few. Thanks for always making us laugh and inspiring us!
So funny, it’s ok, we all have the same issues with coughing! It is so common and I’m so happy we share now so we know we aren’t alone. I keep my house at 62 so I don’t over heat in sweaters. Sadly when hoping to show off my new knitting I can’t. Friends keep their houses so hot! Not that I go anywhere any more! COVID just won’t go away.
Love your hats, both small and large! The ribbed hat is a favorite for sure. I’ve used Grammys Hat by Tanis Lavallee for years. Similar simple rib that’s perfect for playing with yarns and colors. You’ve inspired me to start my gift knitting right now!
Hi Jodi and Tracie! Thanks so much for talking about my yarn and spinning batts in this episode! I got a bunch of new followers overnight on Instagram and I was trying to figure out why and then I realized Jodi must have gotten her package 😆! Enjoy xx, Aimee
Guys, I'm new to yall and had a blast. I am in yarn overload!!! So much information and goodies. Loved it. By the way tumeric, honey and ginger tea works wonders for a sore throat.
Time flies when I watch your podcasts. In addition to knitting I also am a beader and try to sell my beaded products to fund my hobbies. I thread the small needles all the time. I think threading your needles for cross stitching will get easier.
A tip for cross stitch patterns that I got from my grandma, take your chart to a print/copy store and they can make you a blown up print out! Sooo much easier on the eyes!
Jodi I just watched your pod cast and heard you talk about using essential oils for a headache. I use peppermint oil on my forehead and temples when I get a headache. I even put it on the back of my neck if I have a stress headache.
I've been coveting Max's needlepoint design!! I second the OTT light suggestions. I have loupe magnification glasses with a LED headlamp for my work as a dental hygienist. I keep threatening to wear those when I'm knitting too!
Hello girls! Veteran's Day here is a national holiday, but not all workers get the day off. For me a needle threader is a necessity, as those two or three strands of floss need to be corraled.
news flash! embroidery floss is starting to come out wound on spools, like we have for regular machine sewing! yay! Tracie you asked why don't they come wound for us already, my first thought was, well ... why doesn't yarn come in cakes? right!? lol jk y'all are fun!
Omg, i also follow Erica arndt….your doing an amazing job at cross stitch…i started cross stitch over a year ago and i am addicted….i am a quilter and i am currently trying to knit which is how i come across your channel ( you two ladies are amazing) here is a helpful utube channel for beginners Fat Quarter shop floss tube, Kimberly Jolly is amazing. FQS actually is one of Erica sponsors…and as a quilter i seem to order like all the time from FQS, they are in Texas but have amazing customer service. All your knitting is beautiful, keep up the great work ladies.
Tracie , I do not like my x-stitch floss to be wound on a bobbin. I find it leaves creases in the floss and the stitches are not always smooth depending where the crease lands. I prefer leaving it in the skein.
Tracie and Jodi don't forget you can crank out i-cord on the sock machine in an instant. You can crank it to make your garlands for the hatvent. Instructions here. Just add some waste yarn then project yarn and go go go! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-suxa6dGLMnA.html
Omg I can’t believe I spent that much money on a yarn bowl. I’ve never ordered one but the one you got from Nancy is more like a work of art than an knitting bowl. I’ve got to stop watching your show. You guys should be on QVC😂 great show girls. I’m a little late to the viewing party so I’ve got to catch up watching. Jodie you mentioned hip issues in other episodes? Maybe a hip replacement is needed? If that’s the issue…it will change your life. Arthritis is real and painful.
Did you know you can get needles that you dont have to thread......they have a V at the top and you pull the thread down into the eye...... its brilliant
All metallic threads are dreadful to embroider with, they are friable, split and fray, if you want some sparkle I’d suggest you add a few sequins or glass seed beads x
First off I want to say I'm a long time viewer and love all of your projects and energy. However, as a person with Cerebral Palsy and an 8yo daughter who also has cerebral palsy it saddened me to hear you say "that's so spastic" in reference to it being too much or crazy. We're working so hard to break down negative language in regards to racism and lgbt communities (even when it's not meant as offensive) and I just want to raise awareness about our language towards the differently abled in our community as well. No judgement though just feedback and raising awareness. 😃 keep up the good work. Shelley x
