Thank you for sharing. Many of these brands are familiar to me but they are very expensive when compared to what I usually pay for them in Trinidad & Tobago. Of course that’s because they are imported, as you mentioned.
This is one of the higher end stores. I'm from the Caribbean as well Anguilla to be exact. There're a lot of Trini here so you'll find a great community.
I will do some more research and talk about it in a later video. A lot of the fruits are imported so that might be a major contributor to the overall cost
Here in the states we usually have far more variety in packaging but based off of your video Velveeta Mac n cheese is more expensive here than in Dubai. Kraft costs are more or less the same. Chunky salsa is definitely more expensive in Dubai even after you factor in the taxes. Keep in mind our shelf prices do not include taxes. We have to understand that shipment costs, taxes and the profit margins for the importer are all baked into the price we find at stores in Dubai. It's expected. Btw Spinneys is not the best place to shop for most products lol. Plenty of other places to go grocery shopping.
I honestly thought the products would be more expensive in Dubai because of the shipping and markup cost. Spinneys is not the best place to shop if you're on a budget but the shopping experience and the fruits are so good. Especially the raison an walnut bread so addictive. There's a store called Viva that's pretty cheap. I think it's new so not sure if you would have shopped there while you were in Dubai. I have a shopping haul with prices so you can check it out. @@funwithjwill back then most folks going to Spinneys were British expats to find products from back home. To me Spinneys is overpriced for most things you can purchase elsewhere. It's like the Starbucks of grocery shopping. You can get a reasonably priced coffee elsewhere but you go there for some unique products and most importantly the experience. That's what you're paying for. I'm still going through all your videos! They are excellent btw. No, viva never existed back then. But I'm glad the options have gone up. Standard of living has drastically improved there for every budget. Btw, this year the UAE gov is predicting a reduction of transportation and shipment costs. There is also locally grown organic produce from Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah that will be increasing in the markets in the coming quarters. I'm guessing the price reduction might not be drastic but improvements will be felt end of this year or starting quarter of next year.
