Always enjoy your shopping vlogs, because they're unvarnished, so to speak, and informative. I feel like this grain bran fermentation experiment is familiar, like it's something I've done in the past but I don't know why . . . maybe the follow-up vid will jog my old memory! Thanks for posting!
If you are in East London then go to Chadwell heath (Elizabeth line) to Hoo Hing. It's a giant Chinese and east asian supermarket that supplies restaurants. They have everything.
Cool! I once did nukadoko with wheat bran. That worked okay, but I did not love the flavor and it started to get a bit too funky for me after a month or two. Maybe I'll try again with oat bran. Or attempt to get rice bran from the one Korean/Japanese shop where I once saw it in Amsterdam.
Loooove nukazuke - I've made it several times but ran into trouble after a few months each time mostly because I wasn't attentive enough. it is my not-so-secret ambition to one day be able to keep one going for a lifetime and tend to it daily like a Japanese grandma. Oat bran worked great for me but it has to be pan-roasted first. Nothing beats an uber-sour carrot out of the nuka pot!
I saw someone who has had it for 2 years and then it dawned on me that....geez, if I keep this after the video, it will kind of take a ton of upkeep! -- So with the toasting, the 2 recipes I had seen before didn't do it and then after I started fermenting the bran, I started seeing everyone toasting it....EEEK!! But it's doing fine so far. I think maybe when I re-fill the bran I'll start lighting toasting the next batch.
@@EastMeetsKitchen It's really mostly about the nutty flavour I think. One of my favourite things in the world is licking my fingers clean after working the nukadoko lol
Many years ago, I used to go to the Japan Centre at Piccadilly Circus to buy a few stuff, but everything was overpriced and it seems nothing has changed. Rice is normally very cheap in the UK. Incidentally, foreign rice imported into Japan is taxed at over 700%.
That explains it! I'm sure it has to do with the trade deals but long grain and rices generally from South Asia are fairly inexpensive. But ya...anything from Japan and the cost is through the roof😬
💜👍💜👍,,,, thanks for. The video...👍👍👍 I will try go to different place in London,. I. Just go China town as that's what I known I do feel like. Exploring ...so next time I come down to London I will try go further than China town👍👍💜👍👍👍👍
Well the Chinatown area is always soooooo crowded. Plus different areas of London have different people from various countries so it's always nice to explore a new part of town and see what new ingredients can be found :)
I don't know why people from Korea and Japan move to England and America because exchange rate in America and England more than Japan and Korea? I am from Thai and I am in America cuz exchange rate more than in Thai when I work
Hey if you wanna do acting, try going to a part time drama school like what I'm doing. I'm attending the LDSA in London (London School of Dramatic Art: LSDA)
Oh that's amazing ☺️ I am doing a course this semester at one of the schools. Does LSDA require auditions? Anyways good luck with that and I hope you enjoy your course ❤️
@@EastMeetsKitchen yes they require auditions, you can do it online, it's 2 monologues, one from a Shakespeare play for example and another play of your choice that is contemporary
