My husband and I share foods also - a sundae at Dairy Queen, a cola if we are out and about, etc. What I have figured lately that saves me time in the kitchen and money is this - I will buy a chuck roast (on sale, when possible) and a rotisserie chicken. Where I live, it costs less to buy a rotisserie chicken than to buy one of the same size and cook it myself. Buying it saves me time and heat in the kitchen. I will cook the roast in the crockpot the first day with potatoes and carrots, maybe shredded roast beef burritos the second day, shredded beef tacos one day, shredded beef over bread and a side veggie dish, etc. until the roast is gone. Then with the rotisserie chicken - chicken and two veggies first day, chicken a la king one day, chicken salad sandwiches one day, chicken stir fry over rice, BBQ chicken pizza, etc. In-between, I make sure we have fish of some kind - salmon, tuna, etc. The chuck roast and chicken cover a lot of the days of the month and save me being the kitchen slave. Thanks, Tessie.

Tessie buy one small container of plain or vanilla flavored yogurt and an on sale half gallon of milk and make your own yogurt either with or without an instant pot, you can find both ways on how to do it on yt. We add fresh fruit, or a dollop of home canned jam to a bowl and it's so delicious, and much cheaper to do yourself. I don't know if you own an instant pot or not? But that's how I make my yogurt. I make up homemade tortillas and cook a pot of beans either in my IP or pressure cooker for 1 hours fifteen or twenty minutes wait till depressurized, then drain off most of the liquid then mash with taco seasonings and make bean and cheese burritos, flash freeze and then wrap in wax paper bag up and keep frozen for quick meals. Hubby loves those to just throw in microwave or toaster oven with home canned salsa on top. Cheaper than buying pre made frozen not so healthy ones too (those are expensive) and homemade is much better.

I hear ya about not cooking so much in the summer ( too hot ), but come Fall and Winter I do enjoy cooking/ baking quite a bit. I’m trying to eat less red meat lately, so we get chicken and turkey, which we grill. Grocery shopping has actually become my form of entertainment since it’s one of the few places I go out to. Don’t laugh but I get dressed up, put on makeup and my junk jewelry and make a day of it.❤️

All good points. Things that I have noticed in the grocery stores- 1) when the reduced price says 65% off- make sure YOU do the math to be sure the marked price is actually that % off. I have seen incorrect prices on lots of items- especially meat. 2) you should make your own yogurt. It tastes better & is probably healthier. Keep up the good work!

This project of yours has been amazing. I know that it has really taken a huge amount of time and energy, but the results are beyond impressive. Making your own yoghurt is simple and easy. I make a litre for about $1.60AUD. You just need milk and a couple of spoons of plain yoghurt ( no additives just milk and cultures), takes about 6 to 8 hrs to develop then you can add anything you like. So good. Cheers

bernieozzie7480 Agree 100%! MOST store bought yogurt hss sweeteners and things like pectin to thicken the yogurt, We have not bought yogurt or kefir in 20+ years. Everyone in our family eats yogurt daily because of the probiotics. I take a 2 Tablespoons from my last batch and add to the new batch of warmed milk, pour in quart Mason jars, wrap jars in heavy terry cloth bath towels and 6 hour later fresh yogurt. Love to stain a cup for homemade 'sour cream'.
@valkyrieocean
@valkyrieocean Год назад
Oh wow, I had no idea this was possible! So, I have a quality cultured yogurt free of sweeteners. What kind of milk is preferred? The milk I can get hold of is pasteurised from the store (Norway); full fat, half fat and skimmed. What would you recommend? This is going to be an exciting experiment! Also, when you leave the yogurt/milk, is that on a kitchen counter? Thanks again 🤗
@shodson314
@shodson314 Год назад
@@valkyrieoceanI use full fat from the grocery and strain it a bit when it’s done. Removing some of the liquid (whey) makes it more like Greek yogurt. I then remove a couple of good sized tablespoons to put in a ziplock in the freezer for my next batch. You never buy yogurt again, just milk! There are lots of methods (crock pot, stove top, instant pot) but all basically get the yogurt to 180* Fahrenheit and then let it cool to 113*. When it’s 113* add the starter and mix in very well then set it aside in a warm environment to let the bacteria grow for 8-12 hours the longer, the stronger. Then put in fridge over night. The next morning, strain if desired, take out a start for your next batch and flavor the remainder as you like.

The #1 way I save money on produce is buying in season. As well as growing a lot of vegetables year round and/or going to local organic farmers markets half an hour before they close, where they cut the prices 75% because fresh produce is perishable. As for yogurt, MOST store bought yogurt hss sweeteners and things like pectin to thicken the yogurt, We have not bought yogurt or kefir in 20+ years. We make our own using organic raw milk from RAW FARM (used to be called Organic Pastures) here in California. They sell their raw milk in most of the grocery stores in our area and throughout California. Not only is homemade healthy because of the active cultures but a good 80% cheaper. Everyone in our family eats yogurt daily because of the probiotics. I probably use one pint of homestyle French jam a year. Again, because it's a high sugar item. All my flours, whole wheat berries hold their nutritional value if frozen which prevents the oils in the wheat from going rancid. Knowing how to sew has saved me a LOT of money, because I can make my own dresses, as well as mend items so they last years longer. Same with taking my shoes to the local cobbler to be resoled as needed. Aside from one pair of new Birkenstocks from 2022, my other 5 pairs of shoes are 15-20 years old, And NOT made in China. I got solar 6 years ago which has saved me a LOT of money. Most homes in our area of the Sierras have solar. Being on the grid in our area can mean 2 weeks to get power back on during the winter when folks get snow up to the roofline or in summer when Pacific Gas and Electric shuts off power to literally millions when we have heat and wind, which can result in their powerlines starting wildfires. Google it 😃 You must save a LOT of money using all the solar generators you have been sent to review. What a blessing.

Yep, in the summer time, cooking heats up the house, which is the last thing we need. Barbequing meat outdoors is a good way to avoid that, and by putting a few servings in the fridge or freezer, my meat is done for a week or more ahead. Interspersing with tinned tuna, or a marked-down cooked chook from the supermarket can mean that one bbq session gives us red meat for the next forrnight, ready to microwave-reheat, and eat. And microwaving makes very little heat in the kitchen, so saves a heap on cooling costs. Also, boiling a full kettle for cuppas only once or twice a day saves on power/fuel. I fill a thermos flask which l keep on the benchtop, and make my hot drinks from that, in between. Very economical! And it cuts out all that heat disippating into the kitchen, whilst the air conditioner is battling away. God bless you, Tessie! X0❤😊🦘

Hi Tessie, maybe you can go through a check list once more in detail how to check if food is spoilt or still good to eat. In Europe there has been a food scam where a group of criminals sold off expired food and relabeled it and it ended back up in supermarkets and shops as full priced items with a new date, so it might actually be extremely useful no matter if you have food that has gone over the best before date which is technically still ok or items where you really need to watch out for.

Oh yes, everyone will have much different habbits one from another. Im diabetic and so i was also an educator. Bananas are not very good for anyone who is diabetic and neither are carrots among other things. Some people though don't care and still eat them regardless. Pastas are not the best for any of us either. I'm an outdoors girl too but we hunt and fish and garden. We use apps. I get bags of free 10lb of potatoes for my family of which i myself hardly eat. I can meats and eat that in many ways. We also go gleaning in the fields on the farms and pick tomatoes, corn, eggplant, cucumbers, Dill, different types of melons and squash, Etc.. my meals are made a little different than everyone elses. We get fresh milk with the cream from the farm. The only thing i get from anywhere else is Hatch NM Chile of which we buy xxx hot by the bushel when they come here from NM. But, you have to know who to get it from or you can get scammed. I can all that chile for the year.

Good evening Tessie. I didn't understand what you meant by stir frying those mushrooms and then freezing. Maybe you were eating them right away. Idk. Anyways, I just cut up and freeze my mushrooms and they are good in any recipes. I'm getting my half cow/beef tomorrow and will be processing the bones and tallow. I'm going to make lye soap from the tallow. Soap is easy to make, but it's time consuming. ❤

I've often heard people say they hate to go buy groceries. 😭 I enlighten them on how ungrateful they are because there are so many people who are praying for food! Some agree and some give me hateful looks but, that's not my problem. My problem is with anyone who doesn't see grocery shopping as a blessing more precious than gold. We can't eat gold. Putting the groceries away shouldn't be a chore either. It beats looking at an empty pantry and refrigerator. If you have food, praise God for providing for you ☮️💖🙏🙌

I love going to our local farmers stand n look at their mark down section, can usually buy whole bags of peaches for 3.00, or peppers for 2.00, even squash. We also get cantaloupe marked down for 1.00 each, what I can't use my chickens love n enjoy the treats. Next trip I hope they have CANTALOUPE again, want to make a jam out of them. I always search out marked down meats or on sale. We did buy half a cow last year n that lasts us a year. I grew Yard long beans this year, not sure what to do with them, for now will just freeze for stir frys? August will be my own Challenge to not buy anything from the store except milk, n few drinks. Need to use up older foods. Enjoyed this video

Banana peals have potassium, and a friend buries hers by her roses and tomato plants. You want to make sure nothing can dig them up. I hang mine on a tree limb. It attracts fruit flies, and the birds love them, especially humming birds. The peels dry up and fall in the ground and return to the earth.

Nice to be back .I spent a week with mum while she recovered from pneumonia. She doesn’t have wi fi or a computer. It sure took a lot out of her. She is 91. She tires easily now. It’s nice to have the cleaning and sorting all done. Now step back, look at it and relax. Have a great evening everyone!

Have you ever made monkey butter with bananas? You can can it too. I tried looking for.those air sealers where i live and cant find them..guess ill just do the dry canning in the oven with my flour. Now the pantry is amazing. Is this part of the country store style idea? Love the hanging baskets too:) Ah..the music at the end..heard it in one of your.other videos..love it!❤❤
