I kind of wish they didn’t make that public so that shooters won’t remember to check if anyones hiding in the refrigerators/freezers

I hate this horrible nightmare dystopian future we've found ourselves in. And people wonder why my generation has anxiety.

i worry about my grandma when she's out shopping. she is in so much pain, but loves getting her own groceries. she can barely walk. what would she do in a situation like this ):

The fact that this is becoming the norm, to always being on edge and having to assume everyone is out to kill you is ridiculous.

It’s sad you have to be alert now a days when simply shopping.

As a Kroger employee, this terrifies me. Every time I see an irate customer, I’m afraid they’re armed.

I love how their “Security experts” only advice is to throw a bottle at the perpetrator therefore increasing your risk of death to the perpetrator since he wants revenge, inside edition is taking drugs.

Honestly you shouldn’t even have to be on alert like this when you’re just trying to get something from the store. This is just sick, man.

As a British woman, I cannot comprehend "Being on alert" when I go to a Supermarket. It's even more terrifying that you have to have "Active shooter drills" at school from a really young age. I'm so sorry that you have to go through this ❤️

One of my relatives works at that Kroger. She was on the other side of the store at the time, I'm so glad she's ok.

So many kids go to the grocery store with their parents and for me it was always fun getting to push the cart or ride it or whatever. Couldn’t imagine this ever happening

I remember my math teacher giving us the first day of class speech telling us that if we needed to protect ourselves our books and chairs could be good weapons. Kind of sad to have to think about this stuff in every setting just in case

I was in Walmart a while back and someone must have dropped like a pallet of stuff and it was like a loud pop that echoed and people..myself included.. dropped our stuff and kind of ducked looking around. It scared me so bad I like lost my hearing for a split second and my vision was weird and fuzzy..The nervous laughter and relief was just crazy when we realized things were okay..Later that day I was thinking about how sad it was that is where a lot of our minds went when we reacted..my heart goes out to these people. Going through that can't be easy.

Our grocery store now has “self defense” guns in a breakable emergency boxes labeled in the middle of each isle.

To me, a non-american, this is so odd how it’s treated as a normal way of life thing. This should NOT be common 😔

I feel like the worst thing to do against someone with a projectile weapon is to go into their line of sight and throw bottles at them

Its really sad that in some countries you have to be so alert even just shopping. I genuinely can't imagine not being able to feel safe when simply going to Tesco, or to school. The fact that people have to think about the fact they might not be safe- It's sickening that that stuff even happens.

I feel so bad for all of the people that were injured or killed, I have been in that store and the employees were so nice and kind.

I am 3rd shifter at a krogers in Texas.. We've been having hella characters and issues pop up lately..from simple grocery robbery (running out with unpaid items) to arguing with staff.. hopefully we and other stores get more security and actual training over these types of things

Also don't run in a straight line . Be unpredictable in running. For example zigzag but change it up .

Online shopping doesn't sound too bad at all. I love how inside edition always report vital information to save lives of it ever happens again that a potential killer could very well be tuning into🙄 it's a scary thing to live in fear because of someone taking their issues out on innocent people.

The issue is that, you cannot simply trust your ears. It’s important to look. Because the sound can echo and bounce. And can send group running straight towards shooters instead of away. See, smell & listen. And remember the different between something that’s keeping you simply out of sight. And something that thick enough to keep you out of harm, as in, something that bullets cannot penetrate. Ei. NOT Thin walls, doors, car doors, etc. Things have never changed. People have always had to be aware of their surroundings and it is unlikely that will ever change. There will always be someone who is angry or unhinged or simple wants what you have,and that is willing to bring you harm to take it or prove a point,

How you know he's not an expert: he says he hears shots so you run from them, but shots usually run throughout buildings, you wanna run to where you hear the sound come because it's most likely away from the shooter

Honestly, if I was ever caught in that scenario I might try to trigger the sprinklers or find a way to turn off the lights. I'd rather find a way for the shooter to not have visibility to shoot well or start chucking eggs and the shooter's area make it hard for him to chase people.

My heart is broken for that sweet elderly lady who died from a gunshot wound to the chest 😢😢😢😢🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 she lost her his earlier this year and had three sons. I just cried and cried🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 praying for you all.

I was actually at that Kroger the day before that as a meeting place to go back to my moms house from my dads. It’s scary to think what would’ve actually happened if I were to have been there the next day.

I live in Memphis, which is only fifteen minutes away from Collierville. My grandparents live there, and I was at there house while this was going on. My nona was planning on going to that same store, because we ran out of paper towels. I'm so thankful that she didn't go.

I live in Arizona. I was at the mall with my wife and 2 kids. Some guys had a gun fight inside the mall over fake sneakers. It was chaos. People were running everywhere. It was something I've never seen before , something like out of a movie. I remember telling my wife to run to the exit. She was holding my older sons hand and i was running pushing my daughter in her stroller. After that incident i bought myself a gun and every time we go out i always make sure to load it and carry it concealed. A man has to be able to protect his family at all costs.

A few years ago I worked at a dollar general as a cashier. One day, I had just left my shift and ten minutes later, a man came in pointing his gun and shooting at the cashier that relived me. The man shot at her at point blank range. Thankfully, he was bad at aiming and not one bullet hit her. That was my last day working there. That cashier is still traumatized to this day about what happened. I now work at Walmart and just a few weeks ago, a man brought his gun with him to steal a tv. When he was asked about the tv, he pulled out his gun and pointed it at everyone around him, which included little kids and my best friend. He started threatening to shoot everyone in the store. I was in the store eating dinner when it happened. I did not see the whole incident go down, but it was scary when I heard that there was a man with a gun threatening to shoot everyone in the store. A few years ago, my friend had bullets fly through her house when people that she didn’t even know started a shooting right outside on her front lawn. It’s just sad that you can’t go anywhere anymore without the possibly that you may not come back to see your family because other people want to be reckless with guns. You can’t even be in the comfort of your own home without the risk of being shot to death.

man… I guess that’s what happens when you live one of the most dangerous cities in the country. I live in Germantown, and it was really sad to see a bunch of people from Collierville be shopping at our Kroger, literally not even 20 minutes away from that location. I have friends who go to that Kroger, it’s just crazy that we have to put up with this stuff. I’m not sure exactly what happened, but what I’ve heard it was a man who worked at the sushi section who had been fired just days before, he kind of went crazy and went back to “get revenge” or something along those lines

This hurts my heart to see, I’m in Boulder, Colorado where the shooting in King Soopers happened last year and i remember seeing the livestream which was disgusting. At the beginning the man who live-streamed it showed the victims on the ground and did nothing to help but continue to video. He even fought with the cops screaming that he deserved to be past the police tape when the shooter was still active, he just wanted a good video and he had no regard for the people who lost their lives.

Just last week I was at goodwill and a guy was following me around the store, he tried talking to me, but what he said was strange, he just acted strange. And then he followed me to the check out. I waited in the store for him to leave first and I told the cashier what was going on. It's sad, but you really do need to be alert at all times.

I always worried about this when I worked at a grocery store, and the freezer is where I always thought I'd hide.

Sad to see how this kind of thing happens so commonly in the US. And those who can and should do to change it, do absolutely nothing about it.

This is one of my biggest fears these days. Especially because I always shop with my young children.

Three things that you need to do to survive: Run- run away from danger Hide- hide if your no where near a exit Fight- if the above options aren't a option and he got you cornered. Grab whatever object to hurt him. Give him one hell of a fight. Do whatever it takes to survive. Fight dirty if you have to.

If all the good citizens carried, the shooter would have ALOT of firearms throwing lead in his direction. Embrace your 2nd Amendment and carry if you legally can.

The world we live in is just really sad and disappointing... you need to stay alert to make sure your safe, like you shouldn't have to do that, you should be able to shop freely without worrying.

Love how they make these *public* news announcements as if the shooters aren't going to take the advice and do the opposite. Awareness is a good thing but it might not be if somebody plans something around this knowledge. Though I guess it'd be a slim chance.

And people don’t understand why I like sitting with my back to a wall. I like a view of every exit. When I’ve sat down I’ve already made a plan to escape. If I’m in the grocery store and it’s to crowded I leave bc I can’t stand it. I don’t like anyone who isn’t with me to be within arms reach. People laugh until this happens.

I try to always be aware of my surroundings but I never used to worry going to the grocery store although I have heard of people being held up like late at night. And I hope all the best to the victims and their families!

I feel like I’m just seeing more and more of these events in the news, makes me more and more glad I don’t live in the USA. Shame they have to worry so much about such normal things like going to school or buying groceries.

I'm just grateful I live in a country where buying something in the store is still safe. I can't imagine how scary it is to buy in the store and risking your own life. Be safe you all out there.

Someone will argue that this is the cost of freedom. The freedom to lose your life from a surprise attack that a lot of times you don't even have the chance to react, even if you were armed yourself. Everyone thinks they're Rambo when it comes to self-defense until they see how senseless it is when it happens in such boring ordinary situations like at the grocery store. Just senseless violence because we want everyone to be armed while ignoring huge mental health issues in the community. We can't ignore either issues. Either we address the gun issue or the mental health crisis.

Makes me terrified for the elderly or disabled. I'm afraid for my mother to go grocery shopping alone incase something like this happens.
