Grocery Store Starfruit Tree Success! Starfruit Flowering & Fruiting 

Some other information I forgot to include in the video Growing conditions: Sunlight- This tree receives partial light where is gets morning and evening sun, but shaded during the middle of the day. Starfruit do not like the direct midday light/heat Water- Water thoroughly and place container where it will be allowed to drain thoroughly. Allow the soil to to dry down in between waterings. Starfruit do not like wet feet! (Roots) Good luck guys!

Beautiful tree. Just found this video and it gave me hope! I too started some seeds from store bought fruit. I had lost hope since they were in the soil for a long time but after a few 90° days they have begun to sprout.

So encouraging bud! I have 3 little trees that I started 3 1/2 years ago but have stunted them but being really slow in up potting them for fear of dreaded root rot... but they’re getting up there in size now so I’m excited. I have purchased grafted keri that I happen to play around with in cross pollination just to see what comes of the mixes. No big hopes but should be fun. You’re great btw! Love your genuine heart! Just came across this video while searching for information on Starfruit. I used to be able to buy Starfruit in large supermarkets, but they no longer sell them. I managed to buy a pack of Starfruit seed and I am going to try one as a test. The seed is currently soaking overnight. I will have to keep mine indoors until larger (if it gets that far) as I live in a cold, stormy part of the UK. When you described the watering, it was similar to the way that citrus are treated. Are Starfruit part of the citrus family? I would be interested to know about its tolerance to cold from your experience. Early days for me, but I am keen to try exotics, even if most only see the best of the summer months outdoors. Your tree is a beautiful tree in its own right, the flowers were stunning - real eye-catchers. You must be so proud of achieving that stage of growth. Thanks for sharing.

Yes! Thank you for posting this! Although after seeing this video I’ve realized my tree gets way too much sun. Which is probably a contributing factor to why mine has always done so poorly. My tree is in the ground (FL sandy soil) and has been for at least five years and has not flowered -_- ever. This tree was a gift. It’s sad. And it now it’s a provider of shade for other plants. I do have five seedlings that are doing fantastic! Grown from produce stand purchased fruit. I just reported them with a mixture of porting soil, perlite and peat moss. Should I have done more? And is this considered a citrus plant? Should I be giving them citrus fertilizer? Thank you again! I’m stoked I came across your channel! Any advice on the in ground tree is greatly appreciated as well!

Oh my goodness, I'm so excited I found this video!! I've been looking for starfruit tree growing support for a couple years now! I have one almost three foot tall tree that is about three years old and it really still looks fragile and baby-tree-like. I live in the Pacific Northwest and keep it indoors- I have a grow light on it now and since then it has exploded in growth, for sure. Maybe that's what it's been missing. I'd love to chat about what else I can do to get this guy fruiting! I read somewhere about pruning to encourage branching and I did "prune" but all it did was shock the plant and it almost died. Anyway...I'd love to know what tips you can give me. What is the best fertilizer? I've also got two other babies that are about 5-6 months old and maybe that tall in inches. Thanks!

One of the other benefits of the Carambola tree, if you keep chickens or ducks plant a Carambola Tree in your chicken/duck run. Chickens and ducks eat the fallen flowers, leaves and any fallen fruit, they will practically fight each other for the fruit!

We have a 1.5 year old star fruit tree same like you started from a seed from the grocery store and we want to know what we need to do , right now its tall and skinny and we are wondering if we should prune it and how to do it ? Are the blossoms as sweet and strong smelling as Meyer Lemon blossoms? My starfruit tree was not any larger after a year than yours was in the one gallon pot or whatever size it was after you transplanted the one you started from seed from the small pot.

My tree is in flower, indoors, and the bees have gone for the season. How can I hand pollinate. I tried last year and had no success. It appears self fertile as in the summer I had a few tiny fruit develop but they fell off.

Google says they grow true to/from seed but the guy I bought my seed from says he has heard conflicting info on that, I just started some from the seed I bought, they were fresh out of the fruit 'when he packed them and shipped them to me, I got them in 3 days . I soaked the seed for 24 hours and planted them in cups. Should the cups be placed in the sun or in a warm place in the shade? Thanks

My starfruit tree is 2-3 years old. It has a lot of new growth up at the top, but the leaves are turning yellow and crispy and falling off. I’m so sad because I want to help it live its best life. I heard it could be from an iron or manganese deficiency. I’ve been fertilizing, but it’s still losing leaves and turning yellow besides the new growth. Idk what I am doing wrong. It’s on my balcony right now, in bright light but shaded. I moved from NJ to AZ so maybe the lack of humidity has something to do with it? But I have seen people grow star fruit in the desert no problem.

Why my star fruit tree bloom with lots of flowers but no fruit?

I have a 4 year old Star fruit tree growing naturally (not in a pot). It is about 20 feet tall and flowers like crazy but does not produce any fruit. Any suggestions or ideas why the flowers are not setting? Thanks, Dr. PDG, Jakarta, Indonesia
