I'm 38 and have played professionally. I've played since I was 16. Even after all these years of playing this young kid is light years and realms beyond my ability. Folks, it ain't just practice, some people are special and gifted. Max is already an absolute master guitarist and it will be fun to see his evolution.
Guthrie Govan, Steve Vai, John Petrucci, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert and Bucket Head have seen Max videos and have decided to quit performing out of frustration.
Yeah, but I bet he had done more practice in the first 3 years of playing, than you have done your whole life. Some people are compulsive when it comes to passions. Jason becker played 8 hours a day and had a small guitar in the car to play at lights. We are just not in the same league when it come to dedication and practice, compared to the greats.
@@80sShred That's true, but it seems there are a lot more people who are willing to put the hours in compared to those who are incredibly talented. Max was 14-15 when he started putting out insane videos. That's pure talent.
@Cheximus yeah, there is definitely talent, but he started when he was 10, so If he was doing 5 or 6 hours of practice a day thats 7-8000 hours of practice by the time he is 14. Thats close to the 10,000 hour master level. I bet you would not have put that many hours in so far in your guitar playing career and even if you had, hours practiced when you are young accelerate skill quicker than when you are older. I am only saying this because I have been playing for 30 years and started when I was 10. I am fairly good at lead, can do some alright shredding ect. But I always remember that I may have played 2-3 hours a week tops when I was young. In my late teenage years, I had some spurts where I would do 15-20 hours a week and my playing would get so much better, so quickly. Over the years being in bands, I have had time off playing, sometimes for a year. If this guy spent a few hours a day consistently from the day he started, he would have more playing under his belt by 14, than I had in 15-20 years. Practice makes perfect. Anybody, even less talented people are going to be very fast and precise if they practice so much. The difference is that if you have talent like he does, the creativity, uniqueness and wow factor are amplified 10 fold. He is a genius + has alot more practice than anyone normal like you and me, you a comparing him too.
I agree. Because of all the harmonic, scalular, penta, and template playing out there, I watch Max frequently as a sorbet cleanser. There's no turning back once you witness the tectonic dexterity level change!
@Elusive Anomaly technique is a factor but not only technique defines his playing. I agree with you on the fact that he has to do more and more to be considered a greatest, but his playing shows a great note choice and good taste in general
What's remarkable is Max's ability to occasionally play fractionally behind the beat then catch up in a nanosecond, like these complex parts are in slow-mo and he's doing Flash stuff. Incredible.
It makes you think about how much time they must put in and how efficiently they practice. I’ve been playing 5 years and I’m not even a sliver of the player this kid is
Mythiqo I’ve been playing 25 years for hours a day no breaks. Even practiced days I was sick. Never took time off. And I’m not close to Max level. I never will be.
I think there are two components necessary to create someone like Max and other virtuosos. 1) Hard work 2) Raw talent For the rest of us, we are lacking in #2, so no matter how hard we practice--even with the greatest teachers, we'll never reach their level. It can happen the other way around too, with someone very talented but they just aren't that passionate or motivated.
This dude is the entire package : right hand left hand finger picking. Alternate picking whammy bar exotic scales arpeggios from hell. Melodic and interesting. This is GOD like playing. It's so cool,⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I hope it’s Max’s dream to become one of, if not THE greatest player of all time because it’s going to happen. Everyone here is witnessing history unfold.
I'm just trying to bring you back down to earth. Temper your expectations. Like I said, he hasn't even written a memorable or meaningful song yet and you're already heralding him as a surefire all time great.
@@yendorthegrand4078 why every musician has to be a songwriter? What the hell is this idea? There’s plenty of extremely talented musicians that give their contribution to music in a jam or band setting without being proper songwriters.
@@jasonknotts5001 Nah, I don't discuss musical taste with anyone anymore. I just wanted to know if you literally meant Max is the first "shredding virtuoso that can play with incredible feeling and phrasing" you've ever heard.
MAX is pretty much, well, I don't think there are words to describe him and his phenomenal playing, but I KNOW that "The very well known guitarist out there who are rich and famous" are trembling with fear, thinking "I hope to god that I don't have a guitar - battle on stage with this guy"!!!!! Max is simply unbelievably incredible, period!! And I do hope he becomes well known-rich, and famous, as he deserves it, for sure!!!
I feel like Max in this world might possibly be part of a whole new paradigm shift that is beyond wealth and fame. Not sure what that would look like so let's just back to what you said 😆
Insane playing at the highest level. Perfect timing, tone, technique with great variety and imagination. And with small details and nuances that make it even better. The sky is the limit for this kid (Great composition too). Masterfully!
@Mable's Fatal Fable Jason Becker was great, and probably similarly talented imo. I'd say Becker didn't reach his peak (before illness, which took his true peak away) till he was a few years older than Max is now (16). I look forward to hearing more original content from Max and then maybe it's a fairer comparison. Jason is one of my all time favorite guitar players and a big inspiration for me to keep playing.
If Max was challenged, I'll bet he could play this solo backwards. It's so rare to see someone with this level of mastery, at any age! Congrats, man. And way to go showing other young aspiring players what can be acheived in 10 short years. Keep going, can't wait to hear more.
I cannot even put into words how insane this is. A couple of weeks ago I had no idea Max Ostro even existed, and now I would say to anyone that he's among the best of the best!
Дружище, я сам из Сибири, из Кемеровской области и мне очень нравится то, что ты делаешь, ты настолько крут и гениален, что я желаю тебе сохранить мастерство на протяжении всего твоего жизненного пути! С наступающим, парень! 🙂🍾🍾
This guy is incredible! And the best part is it just comes so smoothly and natural! I don’t even think his heart rate or blood pressure moved an iota from beginning to end.
I can't say enough great things about this guy. An amazing artist, mastery level of playing and he looks like someone you'd want to hang out with. Big things to cone I'm sure of it.
I love the sorta comedy attitude you got going on now where you look like you dont even know why you there, and then just unleash unreal stuff. That percussive ghost note roll at 0:43 was pure filth.
@@_lemonny Except he's not palm mutting that string at that moment. Makes me wonder if this is live or not. I can't see exactly how he'd get that sound without palm mutting.
I am speechless. You’re from another world, so young, so groovy, so incredible technique mastering and expression... man, tell us which planet you come from!!! 😂 looking forward to find you in the well deserved place side by side with the best guitarists in the world.
One thing I love that you don't do..."guitar solo" face! It is so easy to see that you have an instantaneous connection with your instrument, and that every bit of energy goes to that. Combined with a truly head-scratching depth of knowledge of music at such an early age, it is really astonishing to witness. Don't ever change your approach, Max. Stay humble, and your path is golden...
What great ideas and superb flow and musicianship. Max you are just fantastic and you have set the bar so high for the rest of us. Most importantly this track is super fun!
@@artistryartistry7239 because he’s young and he plays like that, because if you’re not gifted there’s no way you’re ever playing like that. …..what a stupid thing to say……
No such thing as natural gift, this is hard work at play. When we see such a prodigy, we are just looking at the result of countless hours of playing and dedication condensed in a few minutes of music. Hence it is easy to think that "he's just born with it", when actually he probably already put in more hours than most people will ever do in their entire life.
When someone sends me video of a good new talented guitarist from RU-vid / my reply is always to send them back a Max Ostro video it is my way of one upping everyone .Lot of great talent but, Max has talent and quirky charisma he will go very very far
There’s only one word - VIRTUOSO. I’m good. I’ve got chops. But I’m 48 - with 35 years of playing experience - and I aspire to have this level of precision and unparalleled skill. This is incredible.
@@Nick--Name And who says that I do not have those genetics? =) I am a firm believer that training helps improve NATURAL talent. Some folks have musical talent. Some are artists. Some carpenters. Different skills. But I can go and pick up drum sticks and start keeping a beat. I'm not a great drummer at all, but the point is that it is natural to me. Whereas if you ask me to draw a self-portrait it will look like shit. =) That being said, this kid is on another level like Jason Becker was in his prime...
