In this video we describe the method we use for the walls in our conversions. We favour using plywood rather than tongue and groove cladding as it is more stable in variable temperatures and gives a professional finish.

I dream to one day build my own van one day and I will be watching your videos to do so. I will be hiring someone for the electrical and plumbing even tho u explain it so well. I don’t think I have the confidence 😂

Hey Oli! Would be very interested to see a horizontal version. Reckon you can show this and see what the groove look like/how you can possible hide them?

Great video and something I defiantly want to give a try! Slightly off topic Oli but I watched your short video on installing the reversing camera and how you wired into the constant live feed of the rear light, I was wondering does it not drain the main battery? Let me know if messaging you on Instagram would be better! Enjoying the how to videos 😀

Great video! What kind of ply did you use? How did you fix the sheets to the wall? Nails and fill the holes? Thanks

Hi! Awesome video thanks. What kind of saw do you use at 2.15 to cut the straight lines in the ply? Is it a track saw or a regular circular you're using to track? Thank you!

Can you give more info on the spec of the 9mm ply, any Uk supplier recommendations. Thank you.

I like. very nice idea. I wonder if done horizontally with 9mm, the board might split when fixed?
@vanlifeconversions

We have done it multiple times and we haven’t had any issues👍 we don’t do the groove that deep

Looks great, could you use a track saw at 45 degrees to also make the same effect as I do not own a router?
@vanlifeconversions
@vanlifeconversions 3 года назад
Yes probably in theory. The groove might be shallower but that wouldn’t matter

@vanlifeconversions

Thanks the ceiling is a ply backboard and then pine (or we now use oak or walnut) strips

I've seen your beautifully finished walls and wondered how you did it. Thanks for sharing this technique! I'm closer to doing my own van. One question though. Did you use the same technique on the ceiling?
@vanlifeconversions
@vanlifeconversions 3 года назад
Great thanks! We used tongue and groove cladding on this ceiling. Usually we use ply and then strips of pine to give a different look

Hi Oli & Emily your vans look fantastic,we’re just at the planning stage, what paint have you used to get this standard of finish and did you spray ? Cheers Mark

Cheers for the video!! Do you reckon 4.5mm ply would be too thin?
@vanlifeconversions
@vanlifeconversions 3 года назад
I havent used that thickness for the walls tbh. It may work OK, but you will likely need to have the fixing points closer together

@duncansarmy
@duncansarmy 3 года назад
Hi Ol, can i ask is there a reason you've gone vertical with the grooves rather horizontal or is it purely aesthetics? Was going to go horizontal but just wondering now if vertical may make things easier?
@vanlifeconversions
@vanlifeconversions 3 года назад
Yes it is easier to hide the joins in the boards with vertical

6mm would be a bit thin for the walls, for the doors it would be ok
