This week on Ground Control, we catchup with Winnipeg Jets alumnus and former captain, Andrew Ladd!
With the Whiteout about to return to Winnipeg for another spring, we reminisced about the time Ladd led the the team to their first trip to the postseason in 2015.
Host Jamie Thomas also chats with Ladd in-depth on his Stanley Cup rings, life as a retired hockey played, and of course - we had to ask about Buff.
Before the interview, JT is joined by guest host Sara Orlesky to chat about Connor Hellebuyck stealing wins for the Jets right before the playoffs, plus excitement for another edition of the Whiteout.
Sara also tells us more about the RUNWAY behind-the-scenes documentary that has aired all season long. The series has been nominated for a Webby Award! You can vote for us to win at: wpgjets.co/vote-webby

It was great to see Andrew Ladd again! Thanks for that, Ground Control!! I have two favourite Andrew Ladd moments - both off the ice! 1. Soon after the amazing day that we heard we were getting an NHL hockey team back, and even before we had been re-named the Jets - Andrew Ladd took it upon himself to come to Winnipeg to "check us out". He went back to his team full of praise for Winnipeg, telling them that this is a GREAT hockey city and the fans were going to LOVE them (and we still do!!) There were a lot of unknowns about Winnipeg, and I'm sure some of the then-Thrashers players were a bit nervous coming here. Ladd diffused that and set up the mind set that Winnipeg was going to be a great new home for these guys! What a Captain thing to do!! Thanks Andrew!! 2. We had just been knocked out of our first ever playoff series as Jets 2.0. A very strong Anaheim team beat us 4 straight. Although that sounds like a blowout, I believe all but one of those games were very close, and we had a chance at winning at least 3 of them. Anyway, I'm driving home disappointed and Paul Maurice comes on the radio for his post game chat. After weeks of keeping injuries very quiet, Maurice revealed some facts about the character of this Jets team. He said that many were nursing injuries (standard for just about EVERY player at this time of year) but he particularly singled out Andrew Ladd as his injury was revealed. My poor memory fails at exactly WHAT the injury was (something like a hernia, maybe?) - but it was something quite serious. Something that if it were NOT the playoffs, there is no way Ladd would have been giving his usual "110 %" on the ice. In fact, were it not for playoff season, Ladd may have actually been in hospital. What an effort from our Captain!! Thanks Andrew for all you did for Winnipeg! All the best to you and your family!!

Laddy is great, Sarah Orlesky is elite, Runway is an incredible series, Ground Control is lit. Have me on the pod and I'll be the biggest hype man for this team I swear to god. Might have to do some bleeping, I'm a passionate guy, but it'll be all positive vibes I promise 🫶✈️🤘

Great show... I went and cast a vote for the Webby award for Runway, have really enjoyed those shows. Great to hear from Andrew Ladd, lots of insight from him and I think the field he is working in might be a great fit for the boys on the Jets when they have struggles. Loved Sara's segment too. Thanks for doing a great job hosting the show, JT.

So is Ladd a cup consultant now? Makes sense. However, the audio seemed a little weird at times this video. Not sure what could be doing that.

I agree retire buffs #… but do you really think they retire wheelers number who they paid to leave and was a cancer in the room?
@nathanbrown3003
@nathanbrown3003 2 месяца назад
@@rdmmotorcycles3751 no they won’t retire his number, but all these guys should retire as jets in a few years. I think a general rule should be you don’t retire numbers of guys that didn’t bring cups to a franchise. That being said, I think buff, and Wheeler have the best chance. I wish Littles was too, maybe my fav all time Jet
@scottbinns318
@scottbinns318 2 месяца назад
@@rdmmotorcycles3751Yes. Because eventually you can't deny his team longevity, especially as captain, nor his accomplishments. He is the franchise leader on points. Scheifele will conquer that in the not-to-distance future, but that should qualify Wheeler. He got a nice ovation when he came back with the Rangers, so people won't really care about anything else at that point.

Buff should but left early and it depends I don't think we should be retiring jerseys so easy. -Little injuries and he was more of a 2nd line Center he just played 1st because we were new team and lacked having Antropov,Burmi,Slater,Wright,Jokinen. - Wheeler probably will have number or jets honor but the locker room stuff for years getting put in best position for him and his contract by Maurice instead of where should be in lineup. Realistically Scheifele and Hellebuyck will be for sure if spend majority of this contract/retire here. Scheifele-1st pick,Hawerchuk connection,represented canada,1st line center,he's actually playing D now. And Hellebuyck vezinas,will be goalie team USA.
