If you put a little bit of soap into the hose then screw the head back on it will spray a foam spray out of the jet hose head covering the insects with a foamy coating.
In dealing with Demon Yellow Jackets, dawn soap has been my go to ... Mix a large bottle with 2 or 3 gallons of water wait until late evening when they're all home then pour the soapy water down the hole ... Problem solved ...
A cloud of yellow jackets attacked me recently and chased me 40-50 yards, stinging me the entire time. I snuck up on them later, doused the flying ones with gasoline and poured a gallon of gasoline down their hole. Problem solved, hopefully. I had to see a doctor the next day about the continued extreme pain from the stings.
The best thing that I have found is to mark the hole in the daytime with sticks or something. You will need to find it again after dark. Come back after dark the just pour about 1/2 cup of gasoline down the hole. Everytime I have done this, they are gone the next day. If you dig, you will find dead yellowjackes in the ground. DO NOT light the gasoline. The fumes is what gets them. Also, especially in the day, wear a white or light colored shirt. They evolved with bears so if you are wearing black, they will attack you thinking you are a bear. Seriously. I found a nest last evening while brush mowing. I had a white shirt on. I only got stung once - on the back of my calf thru my loose fitting pants. I brushed several off of me. I may try the dish soap remedy the next time. But I know gasoline works, it isn't much (1/2 cup) and is cheap.
This happened to me when I was about 5. I sat at the ground playing at the edge of our yard, and I didn’t know there was an underground nest there. Several flew up the back of my shirt and stung me as I ran crying. When my dad got home, he poured gas down their hole. Later he hooked the plow to the tractor and plowed them up.
I just discovered a yellow jacket nest in my yard for the first time ever a couple of weeks ago. I tried covering the hole and it made things worse like this guy said. I took the spray nozzle off the hose and brought it close to the hole, poured in about a cup of dish soap and stuck the hose in there. I let it run for a while alternating more squirts of soap. Workerd like a charm. Just to cover all bases, I poured some gas down in there as well and stuffed the whole full of gravel and pounded it in with a hammer. Haven't seen any since.
Not sure if yellow jackets or orange hornets, but the sting of one felt like a swift rock hitting me in the face, swelled up good too. Steroid shot & some meds have helped. I was mowing and got caught by surprise, glad only 1 sting. I’m gonna give this a try since gasoline is so expensive and soap seems to squirt from a safer distance, wish me luck & pray too! Need to be able to let the dogs out & cut the yard w/o anyone being stung. Thanks for the advice will give it a try before gasoline ⛽️ is used.
Good info to know. I disturbed a yellow jacket nest using a weed trimmer three days ago. I got stung 5 times; once on the leg, arm, shoulder, twice on my scalp. Hydrocortisone and Benadryl for the itching, stinging and swelling. The nest is a few feet away from the neighbor kid’s swimming pool.
Thanks! I've got a ground wasp colony in my flower bed that I want out asap. My fault for using old decaying logs for garden border, perfect spot for the critters to make a nest under...
Most bystanders do not realize that a working man needs to deal with the problems while working. He does not have the luxury to come back to the work site at night.
I’m allergic to stings, All kinds! When the yellow Jackets or what have ya put a nest up in our laundry room, I poke a 3/16 hole in any can large enough to cover the nest. Wait till early morning before any leave the nest; put can over nest quickly and insert nozzle from carb cleaner and give it a burst. It don’t take much
If you have the time, you can mark the nest entrance with a long stick to be able to find it at night. Mix some dish soap in a bucket of hot water or even cold water. At night pour the soapy water over the nest opening. Check for their traffic the next day and repeat if necessary the following night.
I he said that he was trying to take a more natural approach, no chemicals, which means gasoline as well... I was always told to wait after dark they don't come out after dark and then you can wipe them.all out instantly
Ground wasps in TN always have TWO entrances, a main entrance and then an escape entrance, both patroled by sentries. One entry, usually the escape entrance, must be closed off to treat the nest. If not the wasps wills warm out, chase you down, and make life miserable.
Thank you for this video and advice I've tried almost everything that I could I have a few of them on my 3-acre property and have not been able to get rid of them yet I was just about to do my grandpa's old trick of pouring gasoline down the holes but this is a much more gentle approach I'm going to give it a whirl thank you for the vid
Best way is locate the hole where they go in the ground. After dark when they are all in the hole pour about 5 or 6 ounces of gas down the hole. DO NOT LIGHT it. Next morning the yellow jackets will be dead in their hole. The gas fumes kill them.
I think the whole point of the video was showing a way to deal with them WITHOUT using harsh chemicals. But I think your method would be very effective.
Thanks. By the way, If you drizzle DW soap into the spray of the hose , it will coat the suckers with bubbles. I also use that method to wash my car, and house.
I used a powder called SEVIN after seeing a video. Seems to have worked. This after getting stung at least 10 times last week by yellow jackets in WA state.
This 100% worked. Dumped a whole bottle in 1st thing in the morning, next day shoved a hose down it and turned it on for a couple hours. Next day, gone.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh I was attacked by a swarm of bees at a job site.. from now on .I always carry RAID BEE 🐝 KILLER...it hurt like heck was stung multiple times...😩😩😩
I guess it's not peak season yet as these aren't nearly as aggressive as most that I deal with late in the season.... These things have stung me numerous times... almost always in the fall. I received around a dozen stings for disturbing a nest last fall with a weed whip... and now I have a nest in my front yard, and I'm looking for ideas on getting rid of the nest without using too much poison.. so thank you for the video.
I was mowing my yard on my rider next to some bush with a nest just like that one in the video. The grass clippings were being blown right next to the nest. Luckily I spotted the nest and drove a way. But I ALWAYS keep a gallon of concentrated commercial insect killer on hand. I could reach this nest with a hose and an a hose spreader set on stream. EZY Peezy. No way would I get that close as you did in the clip. They were already pretty pissed off from the mower clippings.
This website is undersubscibed. Probably because there is no drama. Just what an ordinary person needs to do to address a problem which they do so well. Ok. I guess I don't want to criticise others. I am just disappointed that so many people look at the surface and get happy without looking at the engine beneath. These guys are for real. I am from the east coast and have no other connection than I seek people who do not bullshit.
Good tip about the soap. Bifenthrin and carbaryl in a 5 gallon bucket of water usually works. Also, wasps serve no purpose for pollination. It's honey bees that do pollination. Wasps live mainly on protein and attack honeybees and eat them for the protein.
Yes we didn’t mention wasps were good pollinators, but thanks for the correction if you thought you heard that. We have been completely avoiding pesticides for the last 10 years and We might do a video on why soon. Thanks for watching and we do appreciate corrections when we make mistakes so thanks for caring enough to do it.
Wasps attack garden pests like worms that eat my plants. I have a lot of red wasps this year, but my plants are doing great because nothing is eating them. When I see a wasp in the garden, it's patrolling for bugs, but it leaves me alone. The only time I get stung is when they try to build a nest in my porch ceiling.
Wasps actually do eat garden pests like caterpillars and they also eat nectar. I have watched them do both. I don’t kill wasps. If you allow paper wasps to have a safe space in your yard, they will allow you to watch them build their nest and observe some really cool behaviors.
Wow I never knew dish soap would kill them. That’s great, because I dislike using the chemical sprays. I’m going to try maxing a soapy batch in a garden sprayer that way I can apply from a distance and soap the flying bees too. I’m too scared to get close enough to put soap directly in the hole hahah
I have never been stung and am absolutely petrified to try and find the hornets nest! I’m afraid I’ll even come across it accidentally! Any tips on how to make the environment so terrible for them they wouldn’t want to nest?
That might work in your yard? However if your paid to do a job at a customer’s home? Time is money. These guys want to get paid & get out. To light someone’s yard on fire will not result in quick payment. I use wasp spray. It works well & freezes the insects quickly in death.
Definitely not much in the way of true Freedom in Germany. Soon speech will be censored.the problem is, Truth is absolute and facts don’t care about feelings.
Wear a white or light colored shirt and clothes. Yellowjackets evolved with bears. If you wear black or dark, they will think you are a bear and really go after you. Seriously. I have personal experience - just last evening.
I would just ask folks, before sinking hundreds into an extermination, if the location is such that its out of the way, they won't bother you unless you mess with the nest. I've stood 4 feet from the entrance of a bald faced wasp nest, midday, while they are zooming back and forth, in and out, and never been bothered. @@oregonarboriculture4071
