Hello Paul, I am writing to you from Peru, my name is Frank. First of all I want to thank you for the great content that you upload to RU-vid, I have been following your channel for a long time, I have learned a lot and I continue to do so. Now, I recently bought your book Engine Performance, and it's amazing the ease with which diagnostics can be done, it's great. As it is a book that I will read several times, I decided to translate it into Spanish to make it easier for me to reread it. I know it will help many Spanish-speaking technicians. I hope it doesn't cause you any discomfort, I only have this translation and if you want I can send it to you. I don't ask for anything in return, after all I can't complain with all that information you keep giving away. THANK YOU 🇵🇪

I did try that test using a test lamp in place of the heater circuit to "trick" the ecm liked we chatted about while back and it didnt work. even though the current flow (amount) was the same as the A/F sensor heater. It would pwm the test lamp for exactly 10.6 seconds and then shut it off. Was interesting to see intentional shutdown though. You may not remember that, it was at leasr 6 months ago.
@davidgregory7702
@davidgregory7702 Год назад
Were you using an LED test light? That would cause the PCM to shut it down as a bad sensor because an LED is a diode. It will reach about ..6V and turn on and there would be no resistance. So it would just be off then on. Zero resistance to infinite resistance OL. An O2 sensor will go from zero to say 100 ohms and the PCM will read that as a valid range. Zero to OL is not a valid range.

Upstream O2 sensors, immediately! Downstream O2 sensors will often delay heater circuit operation until moisture burns off in the exhaust

Hello and thank you for what you do. Enjoy your show. Hopefully youll have time to advise me. For a 93 f150 xlt 4x4 5.8L EOD4 or any older vehicle... Will newer platinum or iridium plugs mess with sensors or ECM? Ive been told that i should stick w stock plugs? Since truck is 30 years old, im looking for better mileage and low end torque. Since they are so old i am considering replacing coil, distributor and ignition control module as a matched set. Think i saw that some aftermarket icms screw w ECM? Want to buy matched set but would appreciate your input. Eventually will put a cam in. Not a racer. Want easier starts and smoother idle. Thank you in advance for your time.
@ScannerDanner
@ScannerDanner Год назад
You will get zero increase in performance by changing any of that. Unless you're having an issue now? Stay with factory plugs and don't change all those parts! Especially the ignition module and distributor! They're making cheap/junk electronic parts for these systems! Watch this part 2 video on an EECIV Mustang where it took us 4 different "new" ignition modules before we got a good one! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9OR2yaV-3VM.html Check and set your base ignition timing and maybe advance it a few degrees to see what that does for you. Just make sure at part throttle, pulling a hill, that you don't hear any pre-ignition (pinging) after advancing the timing. That's about the only thing you can do.

Also since it is so old my plan is to make it a sound heirloom to pass on to my son. And of course I don't want to be a parts changer. 😬😉
@ScannerDanner
@ScannerDanner Год назад
@alfredocasas7799 stay with the factory stuff. I promise you, you will get ZERO gains on aftermarket ignition systems no matter what they claim. The reason they can get away with these false claims is that when an engine is heavily modified and then needs a hotter spark, that's where the gains come in! A factory engine gets NO gains from a "hotter spark"

@gregmay8851 Год назад
can you explain down stream 3 sensors? I see them go bad on land rovers often. they take a long time to heat up and show activity on scan data, and I have never seen any current on a heater circuit for these sensors. What do they do? I like your content. Thank you for sharing.

Toyota Tacoma 2003 4.7 with fault code p0031 heating circuit short to ground . Is it a ground side switched heater circuit? What is the O2 heater control wire voltage?
@aliasas5715

Yes ground side . really I did not measured heater control voltage. just I checked the ECU switched the ground side using test light . The test light illuminated a constant green for 20s not on off on off
@ScannerDanner
@ScannerDanner Год назад
@aliasas5715 not all heater controls are PWM, also an LED test light is not the best tool for this job. In your case the driver is recognizing that current flow is very low so it shuts the driver back off.

@ScannerDanner
@ScannerDanner Год назад
@@braq331 in this case, it is a ground side switched circuit, so the ECM expects to see 12v on the control wire with the transistor off and 0v with the transistor on. So then logics are involved there. If it sees 0v with the circuit off, you will get a code. If it sees 12v with the circuit on, you will get a code. Make sense?
